Calling All Cigar Aficionados- Advice Needed(Vanity)

Help! I need some advice from all you cigar aficionados. My husband is a new car/truck saleman for Dodge. To all his high end truck customers ($30K+) he gives them a fine cigar as a kind of lagniappe. He's been doing this for about 4 months now; a marketing promo I'll admit, but one that's been working out very well.

Now here's where I need the advice: My husband doesn't smoke. That being the case, the selection of cigars he gives away have been pretty limited to what-looks-expensive-and-cost-a-lot ($6-$19 per).I mean the selections are all over the board.

So, I would appreciate any suggestions and/or recommondations on what kind of fine cigar he should use; something he can stick with.

(If this would help: A general profile of these high-end truck buyers is male, 45+y.o., owns his own business, born and raised here in/around central Ohio area, and he may or may not smoke...but 99% of them will smoke a fine cigar, esp. if they got for free.)

Ashton cabinets while too light now for my jaded tastes are wonderful mild very cedary smokes...damn well made too. I think they and Savinelli are made by the Davidoff folks in the Dom Rep.

I agree. I've probably smoked every cigar mentioned on this thread and now I only buy Dominicans. The one I buy is Henry Clay. Hands down the best value of them all. Do your self a favor.

Montreal is a wonderful city absent the politics. My dad sold one of his old firms to Montreal Engineering Company (MONENCO) back in the 70s. My family had ties there for some time. I bought a ship from some down and out shipping company there back in 1988 when I owned freighters. I went there numerous times. Great food. Nice looking women too...that never hurts..LOL

There are plenty of online services that ship Cubans. I used to use one that did COD a few years back. I never got burnt but I know the risk is high.

My mom brought some Punch Black Prince cigars back for me from Graycliff in Nassau a few years ago.

Order online. I only buy from local stores in emergency or if they have some under the counter deals (Cubans that I like).

My La Glorias run about 3 bucks a stick for what is essentially a double corona which I usually guillotine into 2 robustos.

I think most stogie prices will continue to settle down now that the poseurs are gone but the status showy brands like Opus X will remain high due to their rather obvious cachet. But, even they have come down....as well as authentic Cubans.

Henry Clay is a well priced brand....mild toasty and smooth. I remember when I liked the Brevas a lot.

I just looked and that is one my husband buys. If I remember correctly, it is the one he and one of our sons BET ON in sports wages. :o) So it has to be good, and yes, he is a "Cigar Afficionado".. he even buys the magazine by that name!!

Do you recommend anyone in particular for shipping Cubans? I bought many when I was in Germany in July, but now I'm down to me last three. The routine my brother and I developed was pure pleasure for me: Go to some ancient city: Trier, Brussels, Munich, Salzberg and while the women shop, bro and I would find the tobaccanist and buy some Cubans, then find an outdoor cafe and drink German bier while smoking a good cigar.

I'm thinking about ordering from the Net. Can you relate any experiences or recommend anyone in particular?

Geez....I've finally caught up to the head of this thread about my "passion" and I forgot to confess a weakness and perhaps blasphemy to some that I enjoy.

I like a Lars Teten on occasion. They are way way overpriced and you have to keep them in a separate humidor but I like them for a change. Think of it as a clove cigarette I guess.

I know I will get slammed for this admission.

I used to love LGC, from about 5 yrs ago....I have lost my taste for them recently. Bauza, on the other hand, is a nice mid-day cigar.

Recently, I have been on a LaLuna and Perdomo kick - as well as Cuban petite coronas.

Smoked a Partagas D4 the other night that was just incredible...that "chewy" and "tangy" smoke.....life it good.

I despise La Barba as much as anyone but I am weak when it comes to smoking the occasional Cuban smoke.

If the dealership he works in is anything like the one I sold cars at for three years (About ten years ago) I wouldn't leave the humidor on the desk. I'd bring in one or two tubed cigars a day for deliveries.
