It's official! New FR Chapter Forming - JAX - Jacksonville, FL Attention
SpookBrat and Dutchgirl

Posted on 09/18/2002 2:28:41 PM PDT by SpookBrat

This is a thread to announce our new chapter in Jacksonville, FL. Go easy on me. I’m winging it. LOL

Dutchgirl has reserved a public room on Thursday, September 26th from 4:30-6:00PM at the Willowbranch Library in Riverside. If the meeting goes well and everyone likes each other, we can go out afterwards if you would like. We decided to have it at the library because it’s free and we thought it might be best to keep everyone sober for the first meeting, if you know what I mean.

Directions to the library. I-10 to HWY 17 exit McDuff, South to Park St., left onto Park St. 2 Blocks (E) to intersection of Park and Cherry St. Free parking is available on the Cherry St. side of the Building. If this is not clear-see Mapquest.

This is our first meeting and naturally the location or time may not be convenient for all. We will update those who can't make the meeting with a report to be posted here at Free Republic. We can also vary the location of the meetings so those who live in all areas of Jacksonville, might have a better chance of making the meetings.

We are allowed to bring food to this library so bring appetizers, finger foods, desserts, coffee, tea, etc….whatever. No roasted pig. Too messy. There will be some door prizes. They should be pretty good, depending on our connections. LOL Keep your fingers crossed.

Dutchgirl booked us as Free Republic, but hopefully we will have a snappy chapter name soon. Any suggestions?

We mostly just want to get together and get to know each other. Figure out our strengths and weaknesses, etc. Bring ideas for activities, please. (My weakness……I can’t spell and I don’t want to be President). I personally would like to plan some supportive Freeps to support our military here in our city. We may have a possible peacenik Freep in Gainsville, but I’m going to call and infiltrate their group to make sure they will be “peaceniking” before we plan a long drive.

One more thing….your privacy may be a concern and you’re welcome to use your screen names at our meetings. I already know some of you will come in dark raincoats and sunglasses. Your privacy will be respected.

RE: Presidency...Dutchgirl and I are hoping for an energetic retiree with some computer savvy and a lot of time on his/her hands. We will stage a coup d'etat in reverse...hustling them into power against their will!!!

Our goals? Take back our country and have a lot of fun in the process.

Glad to see you're at home in your new home.

Good for you, and GOOD LUCK!

PS:

Bet you were surprised to see all the FFA's running around in Fla., I know I was. Just something to remind you of home.

Official photos? I didn't think of that. Maybe I can get my 11 year old to show me how to use his nickleodeon digital camera and how to uplink the photos afterwards.

BTW, I saw another thread re: a film produced by hollywonks to trash the 2000 election, having a screening in Jax the same night as debates. I MUST get to office supply store for Freep banners. All sign suggestions welcome. People for the American Way are one of the sponsors of the diatribe.

we thought it might be best to keep everyone sober for the first meeting

I live in New Jersey, but thought about flying down for the conception....however...after reading the above...I've decided to open up my own FR Poker Chapter in the back room at the bar down the block. It's quarter/half...no wild card. We do Acey/Duecey for the final pot, and one eyed jacks get shot. Freepmail me if your interested.

I've got a roulette wheel with a magnet attachment if anyone's interested in purchasing. Otherwise it goes on E Bay.

I live on the Westside and work on the Southside, so I'm pretty well covered.

I've got four blank poster boards and a brand-new package of glitter paints. All we need now is a few good ideas.

Unfortunately, I'm all out of those...

Welcome to Lake City! I have lived here about 4 years now and like it. Let me know if I can provide any info about the area or help with your relocation.

Well, there really aren't any more details to add to the above, and it looks like I won't be getting to it :o(

I hope you all have a great meeting (know you will!) -- FReegards to all.

Looking forward to see you guys. I hope you can make it. I think we will have a small turn out. That's ok. Dutchgirl and I can eat all the food that way. :)

Dutchgirl and I had a nice visit. I just got the pictures downloaded from my digital this morning. I hope to post them later.

We ate all the food and I won the door prizes. I tried to break the Flag Pole in the meeting room. That was embarrassing. Then we tried to drink a gallon of coffee by ourselves, but were unable to achieve that goal. Mostly we just talked about books and Dutchgirl educated me on Florida politics. We are going to meet one night next month at "Free Bird Cafe", where ever that is. Maybe on a late Saturday afternoon, around 4 or 5.

It's hard to find a time when everone can make it. Any ideas?

Hi, Spooky! The Freebird Cafe' is in Jax beach, about a mile or so from Casa Del Cut. It is, IMHO, one of the best of the Beaches restaurants. It's down at the Pavilion, on First Street near Sneaker's and Carrabba's. As its name implies, it's owned by Ronnie Van Zandt's(late lead singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd) widow, Judy and is filled with Skynyrd memorabilia. They have live music almost every night (Greg Allman is supposed to be there next month), and the food is outstanding. It's a wonderfully fun place, and quite family-friendly as well.

Hey, did you notice that the Jacksonville Airshow is on once again, for the end of October at the beach? The Blue Angels will perform, as well as a bunch of military aircraft and hardware. Perhaps that would be a good place for your chapter to go, for the patriotic fun's sake.

Well, you're just full of good ideas. I can't wait to go to that restaurant. That's why we (dutchgirl) picked it. LOL I love music, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd. (Visit the Canteen today).

What date is the air show? I'll try to get the word out and maybe that can be something fun for us all to do together.
