S.A. Woman Charged $32 For Opinion Fax Company Profits From Controversy Posted: 11:46 a.m. CDT September 13, 2002 Updated: 12:08 p.m. CDT September 13, 2002
SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio woman was recently charged $32.45 for her opinion on a hot topic.
Susan Lyman-Krom (pictured, left) said she decided to respond to a poll from an unsolicited fax whether the phrase "One nation under God" should be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.
"I felt strongly about that question," Lyman-Krom said in an interview with KSAT 12 News.
After writing down her vote, Lyman-Krom faxed her opinion to a 900 number.
According to the fax, calls cost $2.95 a minute. The average fax takes about two minutes in standard mode, the fax stated.
"We figured it would cost $6," Lyman-Krom said.
But when Lyman-Krom received her bill, she said she was shocked to see that she was charged $32.45 for an 11-minute fax by Right2Vote Limited, a Canadian company.
"I think it's a scam," Lyman-Krom added. "I think its a way to hit a nerve with the general public on a heated issue. They are turning right around and collecting all this money on a phone call."
Lyman-Krom said that AT&T told her that the 900 number she called belonged to British Fax Directory.
British Fax Directory is a subsidiary of 21st Century Fax, a London-based company that was fined $1 million by the Federal Communications Commission for junk faxes.
KSAT 12 News tried to contact Right2Vote, but there was no telephone number listed. A phone number to remove a fax machine from the company's list was constantly busy.
That would be sweet.
I'm puting 30 minutes back on the clock for you for this and the fact your are hanging in here defending yourself in your own way. I can tell you that everyone hitting on you has been flamed just as bad including myself. It stings the first time but you will find a way to rationalize it and move on.
LOL....you might be on to something...
OTOH...If she's been an 'avid fan' for 2 years, supposedly has been known to be sane...what made her snap? s/he's a SF fan who lost his/her mind when Denver won?
Jealous ... Jealous! .... of what? Your nice cars? Your great big houses with swimming pools? Your young hot (blonde) wives named Debbie (dashing debonair husbands named Chad)????? Jealous???? Ha!
Ok ... maybe just a lot.
Oops! Check again -- Blonde joke alert! No thread is safe from the dastardly blonde joke!
Though you say you're conservative, so far, your anger has shown you to believe in one of the most effective tools of the Marxist left, the frivelous law suit. Suing for hurt feelings is a leftist tactic. You may vote right wing, but you live left wing. Luckily, all is not lost.
My first actual post here, some 3 years ago, got me flamed to death... I discovered then, that I would need an asbestos suit to go with the tin foil hat that they said I needed...
I proceeded to learn more about liberty and Constitution than I ever dreamed possible. This place really changed almost every one of my previously held beliefs about how life should be lived in a free country.
These days, I show up, tin foil on head, asbestos on ego, and have at it with the Jihads and Currys and try not to get banned doing it..
Stick around honey, take the heat for this day, understand that tomorrow everyone will love you like it never happened, and learn from the people here... Some of them are brilliant! (Jihad and Curry excepted of course)
Hey! I resemble that remark!
that, or lotsa ammo
Rock Chalk!
