This one seems like it is a foregone conclusion that Congress should vote to support Bush and only a matter of when they should do it. Okay with me. I think they should vote to support our president. On the question of when, it seems those favoring delay have the day.
Should the U.S. Congress vote to support President Bush on his stand against Iraq before or after the November elections?
- After the elections. This is a big decision. It can wait until November. 65%
- Vote now. Congress should show it's unified behind President Bush and we mean business. 28%
- Undecided 7%
I realize some FReepers may be in favor of going slow - certainly this is a big question - so perhaps this thread will be a good place to examine this. How much deliberation should there be in Congress?
I haven't paid attention ... are the House and Senate going to vote on a resolution of support?

He's just to stubborn to change to the GOP this late in his life. But you know what? If I were him, with his life success, experience and talent ... I would never tolerate a cynical and unprincipled fool like Daschele. Miller needs to say ... "Let's get the shit to the floor, vote it up or down, and do our jobs already". How can these guys abide this stupid maneuvering?
Daschle has a problem. His reason to delay the vote - not enough evidence - doesn't hold water in the face of the President's litany of charges against Iraq. In the past 24 hours, I've heard people say they were now convinced because they had previously not heard all those 'disses' of the UN named at one time.
IMO, these people have been living on another planet, but then I have to realize that not everyone stays up on this stuff.
GWB's speech was magnificent. Daschle is stuck with a pathetic argument and a bunch of Senators who are going to leave the reservation soon. heh he heh. Couldn't happen to a better guy.
It certainly was. I watched him making it and could not help think to myself, this is a very great man.
I will wager that there is a group of reporters digging for an October surprise on Coleman. Every malconent is telling their story right now. That's what they do. Remember Grams' kid getting arrested for kidnapping? Top of the fold, "Grams arrested for kidnapping and drugs" and they put a picture of the SENATOR next to the first column. I ripped Lou Gelfand a new one about that. That guy is catatonic. The Strib is a Dem house organ, and they want Wellstone to win in the worst way. I keep getting telemarketing calls from their circulation call center ... I explained the only toilet-connected circumstances I would ever use their newspaper but they just keep trying.
These people take an oath to protect us. We, the voters, should know where they stand on this duty -- are they going to uphold it or not -- before we cast ballots in November, so we can make our choices accordingly.

I remember back in 94-96, the freshmen GOPers would get together on a Speical Order at 10 est and they would yakk brilliant till midnight or one. Kingston, Lindsay Graham, Vern Ehlers (check his pulse), Tom Coburn (superstar retired)of Oklahoma, Steve Largent (superstar retired) and a great guy from Florida (Todd McCullough ?)who honored his term limit promise and retired. No special order is complete until J.D.(watchoo talkin' bout Maxine) Hayworth bullies his way in. David Obey wanted to fight him one night and J.D was just laughing at him - Obey was melting down, he had to be removed by Capitol police. Bill Thomas was overseeing the chamber, and he said "please remove this historically abusive member". LMAO! That Bob Martinez hothead from NJ stepped up "The speaker must remove abusive. The speaker cannot use abusive. House out of order. House out of order! .... ") That what the baby Dems do when they are not getting their way. That old mummy from Florida, Sam Gibbons, was close to dying in chamber he was so angry at that great guy fom New York (Gerald ....) who ran the rules committee like a tyrant! That's how it's done! Did he piss people off. He died in 99, great guy. That was the first year in 40 that they didn't wield the iron fist of power with arrogance and disdain. They didn't handle it well. Sweet to behold - despots like Conyers, Dellums, Dingell and Rostenkowski were forced to say .... "may I inquire of the Chair?" and it killed them. Good action in that 94-95 House.
But, that freshman class included David McIntosh (superstar retired) of IN, Rick Santorum, John Thune (next SD Senator and superstar), Greg Ganske, J.C. Watts (overrated), Sue Myrick (superstar), J.D."Whatchoo talkin about Major Owens" Hayworth (he'll watch your back). Helen (Wheels) Chenowith. Helen was a pistol, but she was caught up in some bullcrap -her husband was an overachieving embezzler I believe. That class had John Ensign (slickee Senator), Jennifer Dunn (overrated no sexual servicing hinted), Steve Buyer and Gil Gutenknecht. Wow, that's a talented roster. That crew is far brighter and ethical than the 49 GOP members of the Senate. Ensign, and Santorum are a push. They are stupider now than then, just through osmosis. The Senate is old, useless and decrepit. Half those guys don't know what day it is if some staffer doesn't brief them. They vote the way they are instructed, but there's always a staffer down in the well to change their vote when theu've forgotten their job and miss the 50% guess.
Best of class: Sonny Bono! That guy rocked in a really graceful way. He was the most charasmatic person in the house, after Newt. Seriously. He'd be Senator from California had he lived - or he would have retired to live and make love with his beautiful wife, love his beautiful kids and savor his beautiful house in beautiful Palm Springs - where he would blow the whole thing by singing with his HORSESHIT voice! I got you Babe ... from him, that was more of a threat than a loving affirmation. LOL I liked Sonny. He was like Columbo in those Committee meetings, he self depreciated to arrogant Clinton assholes like Margaret Williams (I hated that woman), Raul Emmanuael and Bernie Nussbaum ... but he picked them apart like a crab! His cross examination got that Treasury Department coolguy (who stiffed the RTC cases in Arkansas) to resign in disgrace. Sonny! Thanks for sending Clinton scum away! Sonny, we need to lose Barn Frank in that same way!
Compare that to the Dems who took the stage: Carolyn McCarthy, Chaka Fatah, Major Owens, Carrie Meek, Bob Wexler, Dennis Kucinich ... those people are functional idiots.
Clinton just blew up the whole landscape. America blamed Newt. Opportunity gone.
What a great influx of conservative and principled talent came into the GOP that year. That was encouraging. And ... a lot of those 94 freshman honored their promise and retired after two terms. Even the most cynical Freepers have to respect that.
