Explosion at Freeport Texas chemical plant

Posted on 09/13/2002 8:23:48 AM PDT by newsperson999

lots of smoke..they said it may be a railcar but it looks like more than that..I saw at least 2 areas where smoke is rising..30-40 yards apart..it looked like a small sturcture on fire as well as the railcar

injuries are cuts and bumps only, treated on site by nurses; no hospitalization

this is an OSHA deal; not a Homeland Security deal.

report says that there was an ammonia release, followed by a fire and then an explosion.

while no one would say this sort of thing is routine, it is hardly unprecedented.

i am willing to wager that there is 0% chance of connection to terrorism.

if you are looking for that action, follow the FL story.

I don't believe how much crap you are getting for thinking that an explosion on Sept 13th, Friday, in Texas, might be terrorists. And on Free Republic, too. Amazing.

No need to jump to conclusions yet.

Actually, I didn't say anything conclusive, did I? Just kicking away knee-jerk flames at a hypothesis I proposed. A lot of chicken-littles want to keep their heads in the sand and blast anyone who speculates something as a possibility.

It's time the flamers chill, I would say.

Yeah, I am noticing that the temperature has risen steadily since early morning. I can't understand why someone wouldn't conclude that Global Warming is taking place. Amazing.

What country are you living in? 0% chance? The sad thing is, I doubt we'll get the real story even if it is a terrorist act. It's better for the government to keep us feeling safe and working. That keeps the taxes coming and the economy working, after all. I just wish we could really "know" the truth about everything. Just because they say "minor injuries" doesn't mean it is so.

As a former Boeing Employee with a decent understanding or airline mechanics and the manufacturing process, I can personally vouch for a number of "cover ups" and "bogus" stories the government used to explain plane crashes and explosions.

That sure shoots down any conspiracy theories, right? How frequently do you feel an explosion 20 miles away? This happens every day, right?

Only about every 55 years or so.

"Twelve minutes later, the Grandcamp disintegrated in a prodigious explosion heard as far as 150 miles distant."

"Buildings swayed in Baytown fifteen miles to the north."

No. They found the fertilizer. Not linked to terrorism. Heard that announced on WBAP out of Dallas this morning.

They are great. Wouldnt work anywhere else. Every year we are 10-15% more efficient than the year before.

I just have a warped sense of humor.

I agree with you Lady. Especially since our military is at DEFCON 2 and homeland security is raised to orange. I think we all should be very suspicious.

Are you comparing explosions in the US to the sun rising? Every morning the sun rises and the temperature goes up. Do we have explosions everyday that are mere chance and human error? If that's your comparison...

Maybe 'Polyanna' is the trademarked name for some plastics product manufactured by BASF.
