Explosion at Freeport Texas chemical plant

lots of smoke..they said it may be a railcar but it looks like more than that..I saw at least 2 areas where smoke is rising..30-40 yards apart..it looked like a small sturcture on fire as well as the railcar

I've already been given rational data, with no flames attached, and was ready to move on, concluding that yes, chemical plant explosions are more common than I thought. Sorry, but I think you have to realize is most people dismiss any and all "incidents" as terrorism because it goes against their self-theraputic approach to life. It's easier to say horrific loss of life like the terror attacks on 9/11 just will NEVER happen again here. So any chemical plant explosions, airplane crashes, train derailments, etc etc......just.............happen.

It's amazing how the "liberally biased" media is reviled (as it should be) on this webboard, yet this same media is trusted when the offical view is reported. It's just easier to accept terrorism can't happen again.

I'm not saying this chemical plant explosion IS terrorism, I have no proof of anything. I'm just following the news like everyone else is. But with the American Military at Defcon 2 status.......well......like I said, it's just a lot easier to dismiss it all. Much easier than asking questions anyway.

In fact, it's clear that people sub-consciously are LOOKING for the next terrorist incident around here, attack anyone presenting evidence that any incident is not terrorist-related, and get rather upset when a potential terrorist incident turns out not to be a terrorist incident and petulantly start tossing about accusations of government "coverups"; can easily be seen by how long people desperately clung to the Ft. Smith plane diversion and the "radioactive ship" being terrorist related long after it was clear neither incident was.

The people here who have dismissed the BASF explosion as being terrorist related are simply people who logically realize that explosions and fires, even very large ones, are a routine byproduct of chemical production.

The fumes could be deadly. I lived in Houston when an ammonia tanker turned over and fell off a ramp near the Galleria on the Southwest Freeway. Many people were killed from the fumes. A mom in my son's school was blinded by the vapors. I remember the TV newcasts zeroing in on a man lying face down, dead, on freeway where he had tried to run from his car and was overcome. I thought how horrible it would be if his wife recognized him by his sportjacket on the evening news before she had been notified by law enforcement.

I believe the source of radioactivity from the ship turned out to be radon-contaminated clay tiles. Happens frequently when you dig your clay in the wrong place. Radon occurrs naturally. I'm from Philly. Trust me, radon is plenty plentiful.

You need to get a life too!! I live around chemical plants and these explosions have been happening for the last 30 years

I agree. I once had to go to the Exxon Baytown chemical plant for some consulting work. In order to actually get into the plant the first time (and get a pass for future times) you have to watch a 20 minute or so safety video. Sabatoge is way down the list of causes of chemical plant explosions.
