"US Prepared to Attack Iraq this year..."

"Experts in and out of government said five U.S. aircraft carriers with 350 warplanes could be off Iraq before year's end if ordered and tens of thousands of troops could be sent much more quickly than the six-months build-up to the 1991 Gulf War. "We are not now on a war footing," stressed one of the U.S. officials, who asked not to be identified, in interviews with Reuters. "But this isn't 1991. We have tanks, lots of stuff in the region waiting for drivers and shooters."

"If there's a fight, winter would be better," a senior military officer said, referring to major discomfort that U.S. -- and perhaps British and other strike troops -- would suffer if forced to don bulky biological-chemical warfare protective suits in Iraq's summer desert heat. A contrasting background of cold ground would also help heat-seeking missiles and bombs to find warm targets from anti-aircraft missile emplacements to tanks."

I may live out here but I'm from the southern East coast. I grew up on rythym and blues and jazz. I prefer the clean cut image, like the groups, SOS, Loose Ends, The Deele, Midnight Star, O'Bryan. Very little rock and roll do I listen to. I like The Doors, Bob Skaggs, Donald Fagen, Michael Franks, Jr Walker,Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report), Booker T and the M.G.'s, Joe Williams, Albert Collins.

"Simon's Good, California!!"
(To be sung to Led Zeppelin's "Going to California")

Spend my days with a woman unkind,
Smoked my stuff an' drank all my wine.
Made up my mind, make a new start,
Goin'a California with an achin' in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.

Took my chances on a big jet plane,
Never let 'em tell ya that they all are the same.
Hohh the sea was red and the sky was grey,
I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow toda__y.
Th' mountains an' the canyons start to tremble an' shake,
The children of the sun begin to awake. Watch out.

It seems that the wrath of the Gods got a punch on the nose
And it's startin' to flow, I think I might be sinkin'.
Throw me a line, if I reach it in time,
I'll meet you up there where the path runs straight and high.

To find a Queen without a King,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings. La la la la.
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn,
Tryin'a find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standin' on a hill in the mountain of dreams,
Tellin' myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.
Mmm-ahh~ahh.

Ahh~ah~ahh-ah~ahh.
Ahh~ah~ahh-ah~ahh.
Ahh~ah~ahh-ah~ahh.
Ahh~ah~ahh.

BTW...Mr. Sultan, as I haven't been following the Simon race that closely, I might need a hand on FReepin' this song properly.

"To hear the genesis of their most famous song is a truly enlightening listening experience. The first version of 'Stairway To Heaven' is a gorgeous acoustic instrumental with Jimmy repeatedly returning to the opening minor chord pattern. There's a subtle organ accompaniment from Jones, and as Page speeds it up slightly, Plant claps along enthusiastically. Take two is a similar instrumental which commences halfway through the song's eventual arrangement. Here we find Jones and Page trying to take the song from the bridge part into the solo finale. It breaks down when Page owns up to a miscue. "I should have gone down a bit," he admits. Take three attempts the same section more successfully, and moves into a meandering acoustic solo which then goes off on a tangent of its own. Take four is a further run through, with electric piano and the first proper ending. This features the same crying chords as the later live version. Robert comes in for take five, an early stab at a complete version with guide vocals. The fact that he only manages to sing a couple of verses (and mostly with different words), backs up Jimmy's claim that most of the lyrics were composed at the session. His vocal delivery is in a lower key and benefits from an echo effect at the beginning. To keep the song flowing, Plant repeats the first verse again halfway through, but before Bonzo can add his weight to the proceedings this take grinds to a halt. Take six is a near finished version. "Right," exclaims Plant, as he ushers in that familiar opening line, which on this occasion includes the later amended line: 'If the stores are all closed she can call in and see a movie.' Robert has the correct vocal phrasing for this version which is delicately sung. Four verses are delivered ('If there's a bustle in your hedgerow...' doesn't appear at all), after which Bonzo joins in with some subtle rimshots. He then beefs it up on the snare as Robert ad libs 'But I really wanna know how it hurts me so,' and then la-la's the 'Your head is humming' verse. For the finale, Jimmy switches to electric guitar for a rousing solo, and Jonsey keeps the rhythm steady on bass.

"Let's have a listen to that... did yer mark the bloody thing!" Bonzo can be heard requesting in his thick Midlands accent. "That's alright, isn't it?" Plant asks Page. "Yes, it's going to be very nice," he replies.

Indeed it was."

"Oprah Tells Streisand/Belafonte to Stick It!! Sodom Beware!!"

Just a coupla days ago, Rush was talking about how America is NOT a "Racist Nation" if Oprah can become the wealthiest entertainer in the Biz, and Limbaugh noted in an aside that Oprah was "potentially one of the most culturally-damaging" (paraphrased) forces in our Culture today. He was speaking about her emotionalization of issues, I believe, at the expense of intellectualizing solutions, but I still feel the time coincidence is striking.

"ROCK AND ROLL"
It's been a long time since I rock an' rolled.
It's been a long time since I did the stroll.
Ooh, let me get it back, let me get it back, let me get it back,
Mm-baby where I come from.

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time. Yes it has.

It's been a long time since the book of love.
I can't count the tears of a life with no love.
A-carry me back, carry me back, carry me back,
Mm-baby where I come from. Whoah~ooh~oh ~whoah~ooh~ooh~hohh.

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Ahhh-ahh~ahh ahh~ahh.

Hohhh, it seems so long since we walked in the moonlight,
A-makin' vows that just couldn't work right.
Hahh-yeah! Open your arms, open your arms, open your arms,
Mm-baby let my love come runnin' in. Let it!

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Yeah~hey.
Yeah~ay~ay.
Yeah hey.
Yeah hey.

Ooh-yeah, ooh~ooh-yeah.
Ooh-yeah, ooh~ooh-yeah. It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long
Lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Bet'cha we can FReep the helloutta this one...MUD
