This is a small collection of links, organized into four consecutive categories:
1- A look back from now.
2- The 9-11 attack "as it went down, live..."
3- The aftermath.
4- Remembrance.
As with all such posts, there are links within links within links, and to fully remember and inform yourself, you need to follow them all- but be warned!
Some will take you to gruesome pictures and disturbing stories, so tread carefully.
I honestly believe that most Americans need to view these things, and never forget, or forgive, what was visited on defenseless and innocent people on that black day.
Use your own judgement, but look if you can.

A look back:
The Eve of Destruction - 9/10/2002
Free Dominion ^ | September 11, 2002 | Entropy Squared
"World War III started on September 11, 2001 as surely as World War II started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. What you are seeing in these pictures is a sneak attack by enemies who want to destroy the freedom and liberty we enjoy, as surely as the Japanese wanted to destroy us and as surely as the Nazis wanted to destroy us."
The original "as it happened" --
"CNBC reports a plane has hit the World Trade Center in NY. No details..."

Then, the rest:
"The story of the victims who jumped to their deaths is the most sensitive aspect of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Photographs of people falling to their deaths shocked the nation...It was worse than people realize."
Fair warning- there are gruesome pictures on this post. You have been cautioned!
"When the whining, sappy, head-in-the-sand idiots at work say we shouldn't go to war, we should put all this behind us (and believe me, they have been saying these things) I've pointed to that shot and asked if they would feel any different if that was their mother, father or child."
And finally, remembrance:

Obama And The 9/11 Murderers [Why Wasn't This Raised During The Campaign?]
From the article:
"We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate; nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."

33 As some of you may be aware,
The Won is seeking to desecrate 9/11 as a "Day of National Service" instead, with the excuse that "We need to move on".
I recall, years ago when we were toppling the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, the Taliban leader Mullah Omar whining to some journalist that we should "Get over it!".
To which my response must be not only "No!", but "Hell No!!!".
Like many, I was at work on that day, learning of it when co-workers told me to check out CNN on the internet, and watched it play out, watching with horror when the buildings collapsed with so many still inside.
The next day, Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts, normally a fairly angry liberal wrote a column ( reproduced at WTC Trbute -
http://www.forgotten-ny.com/WTCtribute.html "We'll Go Forward From this Moment" in which he observed...
Let me tell you about my people. We are a vast and quarrelsome family, a family rent by racial, social, political and class division, but a family nonetheless. We're frivolous, yes, capable of expending tremendous emotional energy on pop cultural minutiae -- a singer's revealing dress, a ball team's misfortune, a cartoon mouse. We're wealthy, too, spoiled by the ready availability of trinkets and material goods, and maybe because of that, we walk through life with a certain sense of blithe entitlement. We are fundamentally decent, though -- peace-loving and compassionate. We struggle to know the right thing and to do it. And we are, the overwhelming majority of us, people of faith, believers in a just and loving God.
Some people -- you, perhaps -- think that any or all of this makes us weak. You're mistaken. We are not weak. Indeed, we are strong in ways that cannot be measured by arsenals.
And concluded with...
So I ask again: What was it you hoped to teach us? It occurs to me that maybe you just wanted us to know the depths of your hatred. If that's the case, consider the message received. And take this message in exchange:
You don't know my people. You don't know what we're capable of. You don't know what you just started.
But you're about to learn.
THIS is how I'll remember 9/11, for a VERY long time to come.

"The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry," Matthew Vadum, senior editor of the Capital Research Center, wrote in a recent article posted on The American Spectator's Web site. September 11, which should be a somber day of mourning and reflection (on how the hell we got here), will be a day when
Obama -- in a celebratory mode -- makes his big announcement. The whole thing is depraved. And yes, it really is mandatory. The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act - the GIVE Act -
calls for a commission to study "whether a workable, fair, and reasonable
mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed."
Meanwhile, an
unclassified State Department "action request" encourages State officials to "consider organizing an Interfaith Day of Service in their host countries as a way to commemorate the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001."
It links this to Obama's statement during his Cairo speech to the Muslim world in June:

The Spectator reported earlier that the Obama White House planned on
desecrating the memory of 9-11 and turning it into a socialist holiday of community service.
The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.
This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year's election campaign. The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it's not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.
The administration's plans were outlined in an Aug. 11 White House-sponsored teleconference call run by Obama ally Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip Hop Caucus, and Liv Havstad, the group's senior vice president of strategic partnerships and programs.
Yearwood, who uses the honorific "Reverend" before his name, has been in the news in recent years, usually for getting arrested...
On the Aug. 11 call, Yearwood and other leaders kept saying repeatedly that they wanted 9/11 to be used for something "positive," "forward-leaning," and "productive," said a source with knowledge of the teleconference.
The plan is to turn a "day of fear" that helps Republicans into a day of activism called the National Day of Service that helps the left.
Right on cue the state-run media jumped to action.
The
AP reported today that this year 9-11 was a day of soup kitchens and advocacy groups:
The nation marked the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with rain-soaked remembrances and acts of volunteerism honoring those who rushed into danger to help.
Around the country, Americans packed up care packages for soldiers, planted gardens for low-income families and painted abandoned, boarded-up homes. The anniversary Friday was declared a day of service for the first time this year to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives to save others from the burning World Trade Center.
Memorials in New York, at the Pentagon and at the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania all took place under gray skies.
At the trade center site, volunteers from soup kitchens, advocacy groups, the Red Cross, the United Way joined relatives of the lost to read the names of those killed in the twin towers. They spoke under tents to protect against rain.
Here's "Rev" Lennox Yearwood harassing Bush Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff
during a hearing in 2006.
This is just further proof that the more radical your leftist background, the more likely you will be elevated to a position of power and respect by this administration.

...And I’m trying to figger out what, if anything to do for 9-11. The Tea Party emailed me of two events- one in the morning at Ballard fire station, another in the evening at Mary Ross park on the waterfront.
The former will have that same congresscritter who spoke at the Red Barn and sounds like it might be a circus. Or a Zoo...
The latter is a candlelight vigil- and actually being where it is, I can get home even if it’s dark. OTOH, I’d like to take The Kid, if I do go, to socialize both him & me some more.
Flip a coin? Or just stay home?

SO HOW TO NOTE THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11? In the past Ive given shooting lessons to a Marine, Ive taken the day off from blogging, and Ive even gone to a Tea Party.
This year, as in most past years, Ill just keep on blogging as usual. And heres a link to my original 9/11 coverage just scroll on up.
Heres a picture by my cousin-in-law Brad Rubenstein, from his apartment that day. You might also want to read this piece by James Lileks.
And heres a passage from Lee Harriss Civilization And Its Enemies.
Forgetfulness occurs when those who have been long inured to civilized order can no longer remember a time in which they had to wonder whether their crops would grow to maturity without being stolen or their children sold into slavery by a victorious foe.
They forget that in time of danger, in the face of the Enemy, they must trust and confide in each other, or perish.
They forget, in short, that there has ever been a category of human experience called the Enemy. And that, before 9/11, was what had happened to us. The very concept of the Enemy had been banished from our moral and political vocabulary. An enemy was just a friend we hadnt done enough for yet. Or perhaps there had been a misunderstanding, or an oversight on our part something that we could correct. And this means that that our first task is that we must try to grasp what the concept of the Enemy really means.
The Enemy is someone who is willing to die in order to kill you. And while it is true that the Enemy always hates us for a reason it is his reason, and not ours.
Ive mentioned it before, but it bears repeating today.
You should also watch this memorial, made shortly after the attacks. Its still quite powerful.
