The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is much more optimistic that the Republican Party will regain control of the Senate this year -- so much so that he now says he can afford to "take risks" in some longshot races.

I think it;s going to be worse than that. I think we are going to see a couple of RINO's jump to the Dem side. McCain for one, then one or two more to give the Senate back to the Dark Side.

It has been said very often since the attacks last year that the nation and the world have changed. I have remained highly skeptical that anything much has changed, let alone anything fundamental. I continue to believe these elections will go a long way toward confirming or denying whether or not anything fundamental has changed in this country.

For example, are we still a nation that is willing to tolerate a corrupt politician like Torricelli? Are we a nation that truly recognizes the threat we face, and comprehends that the President needs a strengthened hand to deal with the threat? Are we going to prove that Osama bin Laden's opinion of us was right or wrong? I'm referring to his opinion of us as weak and all-consumed by materialism. Another example to draw the point finer: Do we want a Senate that will give us a prescription drug "benefit" while failing for months to pass the Defense appropriation? What will we choose?

The GOP will get stupid.

Among other things, they'll submit, and vote for, a permanent extension to the assault weapons ban, guaranteeing that the Dems will sweep both branches in 2004.

Let's hope and pray this will be true! We also need to be active and send money to the campaigns of Pubbie candidates wherever they are! The thought of more time with the RAT majority in the Senate is a cause of great anguish. Keep in mind what Dashole and the miserable RAT Senators have done to screw up the nation since that arch-turncoat Jeffords deserted.

Not yet. The Repub leadership isn't going to anything dramatic that will shake things up during war years. Too much risk to the economy to make these kinds of changes at this point.

Huh? The way the FBI is now doing things is a dramatic change... The Homeland Security Dept that Bush wants to create is a huge change... Our focus on prevention, rather than after it happens is huge...

Getting rid of the IRS and setting up a sales tax or flat tax would have huge economic effects. Good effects in the long term, but it would be bloody in the short term as companies and individuals shift strategies to cope with the change. The FBI and Homeland changes are very small compared to the economic chnages that would result from implementing a national sales tax or flat tax.

If it were up to me, I'd phase things in slowly, eliminating a tax bracket every year and reducing deductions...once a flat tax is in place slowly start to bring in a sales tax with corresponding reductions in income tax bracket rates. Overnight changes would be devastating.

They will maintain their control of the house.

And, they control the presidency.

What will be accomplished in the next 2 years? Any predictions?

Easy - Sir FagALott will reopen power-sharing negotiations.

The last thing to look for would be a smaller, less-expensive and less-intrusive Stupid Federal Government.
