The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is much more optimistic that the Republican Party will regain control of the Senate this year -- so much so that he now says he can afford to "take risks" in some longshot races.

The fact remains, there are a lot of sunshine patriots out there, that quaver at the least notion that the US may very well be engaged in a massive international struggle within months. These Caspar Milquetoast types are very well trained in the performance of panic, and launch into that mode at every opportunity. They will turn to ANYBODY who makes even a vague promise to "talk", rather than ever resorting to serious confrontation. How do you negotiate with scorpions? The short answer is, you can't. But these make-believe Americans are not swayed by that reasoning. We have had several generations of just this sort of escapist thinking, and that just may tip the scales back to the gridlock so beloved by the indecisive.

I weighed in on the Dow 5000 thread by the way. You might check out my little epistle. I don't get to pontificate much about finance around here, so when the opportunity presented itself, well, I grabbed it. :)
They will maintain their control of the house.
And, they control the presidency.
What will be accomplished in the next 2 years? Any predictions?
They could install him as Chairman of the Coatroom, a very hands-on job of hanging up and retrieving the Republican member's coats.
I'm glad for the good report...and we are on track in the races cited.
But they don't seem to think they can 'afford' to invest the modest resources needed into the grassroots efforts of FReeper Jay Wolfe of WV in his bid to unseat the leftist Democrat Senator Jay Rockefeller. (We believe we can win with less than $300,000.)
The Bush campaign raised over a quarter million dollars in the Mountain State in 2000. They spent less than $10,000, because the 'experts' said that there was no way for George W. to win here. Well, the grassroots ignored them and won anyhow...thank God. If they hadn't, Gore would be in the Oval Office. ::shudder::
Now, in 2002, the elites are once again ignoring WV. Those of us here working on this race can clearly see a path to defeating Rockefeller:
1. Grassroots West Virginia Republicans, Independents and conservative Democrats believe we can win. (Yes, conservative Democrats still do exist here, believe it or not.)--and are blanketing the state with literature and signs, organizing the churches, and are building the most thorough grassroots organizing effort this state has ever seen.
2. Every one of the 55 Counties is now organized for Wolfe.
3. By October 1st, every one of the 1900+ Precincts will be organized for Wolfe.
4. Rockefeller is an abortion extremist (he supports even 'partial-birth abortion') and by November 5th, every West Virginian will know it.
5. Rockefeller rates an 'F' from the NRA, in this very pro-gun state, while Jay Wolfe receives an 'A'. This is huge, people.
So, for those of you who care about solving our problem in the US Senate, here is an opportunity to make history, by supporting the efforts of these great folks. First, make it clear to the Senatorial Committee that they should be investing some of their ample resources here, and also, if you can, put your own funds in here to help out.

In closing, remember that 2003-2004 are likely to be extremely dangerous times for our nation. The control of the Senate has taken on deeper and more critical dimensions than simply who will approve judges---the lives of our people, young and old, may very well hinge on who is in charge...Republicans concerned with their primary duty to protect the Republic, or Democrats who appease, equivocate and sell out our defense and security interests.
Any Senator or Congressman can change parties simply by standing up and saying "As of this moment [or any date X in the future], I will be a member of the X Party." So if he wants to come back, we can't stop him. But as far the RNC and the Republican leadership in Congress ever supporting him again in the slightest ... well, he'd have to have something awfully good to offer them before they'd really take him back under their wing.
They already are. Bloated multimillionaire trial lawyer and already-failed-once candidate Jim Humphries (RAT) is playing it with sledgehammer subtlety in the WV-2 race against incumbent Shelly Moore Capito (R). I have no idea how well he's faring with it; around here the TV stations are too cheap to take polls too often.
He jumped after the election, never stating any of his "concerns" with the Republican party during the campaign.
The guy is a jerk!
