Harvard professor argues for 'abolishing' white race

Noel Ignatiev, a founder of a journal called Race Traitor and a fellow at Harvard's W.E.B. DuBois Institute, a leading black-studies department, argues in the current issue of Harvard Magazine that "abolishing the white race" is "so desirable that some may find it hard to believe" that anyone other than "committed white supremacists" would oppose it.

He may want to abolish "beautiful" people too. For they are afforded even greater "priveleges" among the general population. While were at it, let's get rid of Hollywood stars, corporate executives, star athletes, etc.etc.etc.

Even Harvard's PR department couldn't come up with anything to defend this guy. I'll bet that this guy did NOT work at a Chicago steel mill and help organize the predominantly black workforce to strike. Can any Chicago FReepers remember the 70's and 80's in Chicago?

Prof Ignatiev wants to reduce the behavior differential between whites and blacks. I guess that means that it's our duty as whites and progressive 'Race Traitors' to go out and commit more crimes. What else could it mean?

This guy may be the son of immigrants, but he is so provincial in his focus on the United States. Everyone's seen those pictures from Afghanistan. Those desperately poor people are whites. Where is their 'white priviledge'?

Finally, race means less today in the US than in most countries and means less today than ever before. Happy miscenegation is erasing race barriers in this country at a rapid pace.

He was laid off from the steel mill in 1984, a year after he was arrested on charges of throwing a paint bomb at a strike-breaker's car. He set up Marxist discussion groups in the early 1980s. In 1985, Mr. Ignatiev was accepted to the Harvard Graduate School of Education without an undergraduate degree. After earning his master's, he joined the Harvard faculty as a lecturer and worked toward a doctorate in U.S. history.

This man, plain and simple, possesses a heart full of hatred and has directed it where he can target the most people, including himself. His hatred obviously extends to himself, first and foremost.

Why would Harvard allow this man in its graduate program without his having an undergraduate degree? I have a hs senior this year who is considering what college to attend next year. I have told her that I value her education too much to ever consider a school like Harvard--and my alma mater--UVA. What a pity to see a school like Harvard, with its rich history, to be reduced to having people like this on its faculty. And they train our state leaders!

I'm sorry but I don't beleive in this type of collective guilt. It's exactly this kind of thinking that has brought the reparations argument to the front. No, the 'white race' has nothing to answer for. Some white people do, however. Which, I think, is the point you were trying to make.

His dissertation was his book, "How the Irish Became White." Mr. Ignatiev said the book told how Irish immigrants came to the United States and became "oppressors" by emulating American whites.

I've actually read his book, and its a little more complicated than the Times portrays. When the Irish first came to the country, they were looked upon as N***ers. Signs on public establishments differentiated between Whites and Irish. And its true that the Irish became accepted into polite society only by emulating the dominant Anglo-Saxon culture, and by being displaced by other, lower-wage immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe. They were pushed into positions of power by having other, more subserviant immigrant groups thrust below them.

Years ago Eddie Murphy did a skit on SNL about him dressing, acting and talking like a white person and getting everything in every store for free unless there was a "person of color" present. Then he and the store clerk just went through the motions of pretending to pay for items until said person had left the premises.

Seems some people actually believed the skit.
