Dear Ann Coulter:
You're fired.
It's not that extreme viewpoints are unwelcome on the opinion pages of the Centre Daily Times. All political viewpoints, from Cal Thomas on the right to Molly Ivins on the left, are welcome here.

But, we don't welcome haters, Ann, and that's what you are.

Well, you are either a hater or a hypocrite who calls names and spews enmity because you believe it will get your pretty face on television more or sell more copies of your best-selling books.

In either case, we won't be publishing your Friday column anymore . We decided not to publish a piece of yours a few weeks back because it was nothing more than a sexual history of some of your enemies -- i.e., private citizens who dared to give money to the Democrats.

I wrote a column about why we held the piece and told readers then that if you continued to cross the line, we'd can you.

Your Friday column, in which you declared that liberals are "no good," then trashed the entire Kennedy clan as a collection of "heroin addicts, convicted killers, cheaters, bottleggers and dissolute drunks," crossed that line. I'm not going to defend the Kennedy family or liberals; either group can argue with you if they'd like.

But, Ann, you're mean -- vicious, really -- which is why we do not believe that you in any way serve the public good.

On a late summer morning almost a year ago, all of us -- Republicans, Democrats and everyone else -- witnessed what hate is capable of.

Since that day, Americans have tried to remember that they are on the same side, regardless of differences in skin color, nation of origin, religion or political viewpoint. It has not always been easy because, more than ever, those who are different can seem more threatening. But we're trying because what we have in America is worth keeping.

And, Ann, you're not helping. You do nothing to elevate our spirits, to celebrate the great bond that holds us this unruly people together and makes us a nation.

Hate is easy; love is hard.

Our great nation gives you the freedom to hate all you want and even to make a buck off it if you can. But, even better, it gives us the right not to have to listen.

So, Ann, you're fired. I expect some of our readers are going to be mad at us over this, but we hope they'll understand that while we joyfully publish a wide spectrum of political and social viewpoints, we condemn hate where we find it.

You won't miss us much, Ann. Heck, you're rolling in money. And your fans can find your column on the Internet anyway.

We'll start looking for someone to replace you. It won't be easy because you sure are flashy and a lot of folks like flashy. But political conservatism has produced other columnists of merit whose ideas will provide subjects fit for public consumption and debate -- writers who do not believe those who disagree with them are traitors, or worse.

Ann is not hatefull, nor does she say hatefull things. She says things that are true. Sometimes the truth hurts, oh well. People are wary of others who speak truth, there is so little of it spoken, especially in Washington DC, any more.

Truth speakers leave no wiggle room. It is either the truth or it is not. If you have falsly spoken your cover is gone after Ann quite sarcausticly has stated the truth. So, the need to hurl insults is born of losing one's wiggle room, and now attack, often, loudly and insultingly as possible.

The one consistent play the dems have is to lie, keep telling the lie with other lies keep telling more insulting lies and so on. The spoken word, spoken often and loudly becomes after a short while, truth and then fact. The lies are all that is remembered, as the truth. Convoluted? Yes.
Are they masters at it? Yes.

It is a lot like having a rational conversation with a drug user, not possible.

That this man can be so blatantly hypocritical, is just further proof of what Ann Coulter claims in her article. He has proven himself as a protectionists to the LIBERAL cause. How NOBLE!! .. I think NOT!!

But then they/libs are used to manipulating public opinion by selective censorship. I think this is going to backfire on people like this man and liberals in general, come election time. (One can always hope, and we pray that America is finally coming out of a LONG slumber regarding the brainwashing that has been taking place in this country!!)

Thats your opinion. Frankly, I think shes a dose of medicine to all the Democrat columnists and politicians who accuse Republicans almost daily of starving children, hating gays being the party of and for only the richest Americans. Their continuous diatribe is a never ending drum beat of hateful and untruthful phrases. Ann just answers them in the form of their own communication skills. Fighting fire with fire. The more Republicans respond in this manner, the more weary the people become of this type of debate and the less effective the hate style monologue becomes. Keep it up Ann. Your looks may get you noticed, but your message is "kickin Ass."

At last an intelligent reponse - I don't mind agreeing to disagree with another, the name calling et al is a bit tough. Kudos to you for presenting your case. Here's my view. Yes, Ann is a very gifted writer. I thought she did a wonderful job covering the FL election mess. I remember reading some of her articles that were very cleverly constructed. However, lately (perhaps since 9/11 and the death of her very dear friend, Barbara Olsen), I've noticed an acidity to her writing that, for me, is becoming less and less clever and more and more belligerant.

Her writing these days lacks the grace of Peggy Noonan; I see her as continually attacking all liberals, not with any of humor but in a new nasty, caustic way. To me, its as if she's lost her sense of humor. We all know that liberals throwing insults around is their domain - and its so off-putting. Who listens to someone who continually carps on "The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy"? To me, Ann with her new style is becoming as predictable (and therefore as boring) as the liberal pundits.

That is why I find I can only take her in small doses these days. I simply tune her out. A conservative writer should be able to mix intelligence with humor to captivate their audience. Ann's mantra: "I hate all liberals; from liberals springs all evil" is rather excessive.

I am not sure how that quote may or may not apply on this thread, but I will strongly insist that it need not be true.
I have been embroiled in countless debates, in which one or several opponents flatly refused to address what was actually said, choosing instead to hare off on absurd tangents derived from what they THOUGHT was said, and no amount of repetition - not... even... explanations... couched... like... so - availed in deterring their headlong flights into fancy.
People can and very often DO flatly refuse to see the point.

Do you require more specifics, or shall you accept that the trend is sufficiently established and allow the discussion to return to the general theater of operations?
That theater is a war for public opinion.
Public Opinion is strongly influenced by emotion - unfortunately.
The emotional response to someone being made an ass of is contempt for that person.
The leftists have used this tactic very successfully against constitutional republicans for decades - unfortunately.
Ann is a new breed, and better at this game than the lefists - unfortunately... for THEM.

George Will and Buckley et alia are wonderful and have their rightful place. My personal favorite must be Thomas Sowell. But these old-guard fellows are too abstract, too erudite, too *stuffy* and too subtle to make an impression on the average barely-literate American. Ann makes more than an impression - she pound's her enemies flat and rouses both carnal and blood-lust. These have their rightful place, too, in the arsenal of an embattled people.

I don't know if you have been in a time freeze,or if you have alzheimers or if you have been taking too much medication. I made that post over 1 month ago to someone else . Today is Oct.23,2002. I made that post Sept.4th. I didn't make the post to you. The person got upset because he/she made a comment which several people misunderstood.Why would you respond a over month later?
