"Dump DAVIS" FReep ideas: statewide "Super SIMON" street theater puts Davis-in-a-Dumpster, NEW logo
"The Devil that you DO know": FReeper help needed for aggressive Gray Davis "street theater" ^ | September 1, 2002 | RonDog, Howie, antaresequity,Aunt Polgara, ElkGroveDan, Mama_Bear, d14truth, MeeknMing, Bob J, AnnaZ

Now is the time for all good FReepers
to come to the aid of the NEXT governor of California, Bill Simon!

IMHO, members of this forum need to "supplement" the traditional campaign now being conducted by the Simon team with the kind of "guerilla" tactics for which we are uniquely suited. Our overall STRATEGY should be to effectively communicate one simple message to the undecided "swing" voters in this state:

Gray Davis is CORRUPT, so we need to "Dump DAVIS!"

(lifesize Styrofoam cutouts courtesy of FReeper Howie)

and

(bumper stickers courtesy of FReeper antaresequity

The evidence against him is overwhelming, from Oracle and Metabolife, to dioxin dumping, plastic pipe and the prison workers, Gray Davis is for sale to the highest bidder. He is thoroughly unscrupulous, a money-grubbing poster boy for everything that is wrong with America. Corrupt politicians who sell political favors for cash CANNOT be trusted, and MUST not be re-elected.

We need to hammer home this message with images of Gray Davis as a bribe-taking, favor-granting, "Pay for Play" whore:

(political cartoon courtesy of Mike Ramirez, originally published August 20, 2002)
Copyright 2002 Los Angeles Times

The TACTICAL plan that I believe will be most effective in implementing this strategy is political "street theater" using FReepers dressed in costumes to represent larger-than-life cartoon characters for each candidate:

>

"Super SIMON"
...played by a FReeper wearing THIS costume:

from www.halloweencostumes4u.com

versus

"The Gray DIVA"
...played by another FReeper wearing THIS costume:

from www.costumes-4-halloween.com

...and THIS Beavis™ mask:

from www.easleys.com

Total cost for both costumes (with accessories) should be under $200, so that we could have MULTIPLE "morality plays" going on at "Dump DAVIS" FReeps across California.

The possibilities to generate media coverage are endless.

I can imagine promoting some kind of professional wrestling-type confrontation between these two colorful characters, ending everytime with "Super SIMON" stuffing the "Gray DIVA" into a giant garbage can - perhaps butt-first - and wheeling the Davis-in-a-Dumpster around on a handcart like the one used by movers to lift refrigerators. Perhaps there could be OTHER FReepers dressed as "Johns" who give him bribes, carrying signs like, "Dioxin Dumpers for Davis."

This kind of "eye candy" should be IRRESISTIBLE to TV news producers, wire service photo editors, talk radio hosts, and political commentators EVERYWHERE, in spite of their liberal bias. (The images will be too good to ignore!)

Simple, powerful IMAGES are the best way to communicate with the MTV generation, and THESE images will work.

Governor D. was in Los Angeles this morning (Monday, Sept. 2),
addressing the opening of the "UCLA Labor center" near Macarthur Park...
Nothing much in the news about this yet, except for THIS, in Yahoo! News:

I am open to paying YOU to fly out here, if you will dress as the "Gray DIVA!" :o)

I'd be willing to do the Time Warp with my fellow FReepers,

but you want my body, in that get up? You got a cast iron stomach or sumthin'? :-)

The best I could do is play Eddie:

Or a fat version of Riff-Raff:

Great Mama_Bear! I think we should do more to promote the idea of dumping Davis in our Friday Freep! I knew I could count on you guys! We have great exposure on the streets where we are, so we can do even more to get the point across!

They won't let us wear the Davis Diva outfits though, and you and I would be so good at that wouldn't we? Or maybe we should get JK and Chadsworth to do it? :)

Well, the LAPD was very good, and after the (utterly unprovoked) attack noted above, they stationed no less than 8, and up to 12 officers to keep 'em separated.

I have to admit that I was surprised that these guys they had, most of whom were in their 30's and 40's, and looked like regular working joes would be willing to physically assualt a very much smaller man, regardless of the heavy police presence. I guess I need to go back and re-read Jeff Cooper's little pamphlet.

Nonetheless, I'd call this a success, as we stood our ground
and got the message out. Or witnessed for the truth, or whatever.

But you're right about quite a few things in this thread:

1. We need to get out and be seen.

2. We need to do so in numbers that provide a modicum of safety for our folks.

3. We need people tasked with DOCUMENTING what these people are up to.

One gentleman at the event on our side, a retired police officer, observed that "In Germany they called them brownshirts." So true. And the media? Well, Orwell had a name for that, I think: Newspeak.

What about a ROAD TRIP to Sacramento for a COMBINED Northern California/Southern California "DumpDAVIS" FReep?

That sounds like a great idea to me!

.What do the rest of the Fresno freepers think?

LOL! I heard my first eGray commerical this past weekend and it was brilliant! There are some excellent ideas on this thread, and on the link provided by you. We really must put this together and follow through. California cannot afford another term of Red Davis.

For those who are not from California, keep in mind he wants to be President, and he is a fund raising machine like no other!

NEXT time, we will be PREPARED, and I think I just found the PERFECT "next time" at www.CAgreens.org:

Camejo to be Included in 1st Gubernatorial Debate, Sept 17, 2002

Peter Migual Camejo, Green Party candidate for Governor of California

Peter Migual Camejo,
Green Party candidate for Governor of California

The debate will be held at 2:00PM in Beverly Hills, CA
and is hosted by New California Media.

More Info: Tyler Snortum-Phelps,
Cameo Campaign Manager
www.votecamejo.org

The enemy of MY enemy is my FRiend, and these wacky Greens are the enemy of the "Gray DIVA!"

This debate kicks off a three day conference of the "alternative press" folks from New California Media who are sponsoring the event!

Talk about a media CIRCUS!!!

We will not have to INVITE the press, they will already BE THERE for their annual EXPO and AWARDS!

Where
Beverly Hilton, 9876 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90210
Attendance
2000+ attending Expo, Sessions and Workshops
800-1000 attending Awards Banquet
Who Should
Attend
Multi-media executives and journalists; Fortune 500 and small business marketing executives; government, foundation and non profit decision makers; advertising/PR agency executives; journalism and communications scholars; social scientists and demographers; civic, faith-based and community leaders; freelance writers, artists and filmmakers.
EXPO Exhibitors
150 exhibit booths representing all forms of ethnic media--print, TV, radio, and online.
This will be "MUST SEE" TV, and WE will be there!!!
The only "down" side is that it is a TUESDAY afternoon, but the "UP" side is that there should not be very many pro-Davis goons there, and even the anti-Simon enviro-wackos who are attending should support our "DumpDAVIS" agenda!!!
What say you, CA FReepers!

Is helping elect the next governor worth taking the afternoon off?
P.S. - Bill Simon will be there. Gray Davis will NOT.

P.S. - Bill Simon will be there. Gray Davis will NOT.
From http://www.polizeros.com/categories/greenParty/:
[Green Party] DEBATE RALLY

Our next big event takes place in Beverly Hills!
On September 17th at 2:00 p.m., at the Beverly Hills Hilton, Peter will appear at the first Gubernatorial debate, hosted by New California Media.

Bill Simon has confirmed his appearance. Davis has not, and is almost certainly going to skip this event.

We will stage a big rally in front of the event that blasts Davis for not showing, and the other media organizations for NOT including him in their debates. We need as many Greens as possible to be there, with signs and banners, making it clear that Davis is a coward.

The rally will take place from 12:30 to 2:00 on the 17th.
Yes, that is a weekday, which may make it hard for some, but we encourage you to save the date and try to take a long lunch, or make what arrangements you can to be there. This will be a big one. We will invite as many Green dignitaries as we can to come speak. Other groups, like Centro Azteca de Informacion will participate and send folks to join us. In the next week we'll send out information on logistics like where the sign making parties will be held and transportation arrangements.

That's all for now. Go Greens!!
Tyler Snortum-Phelps
Campaign Manager
Peter Miguel Camejo for Governor
www.votecamejo.org
Gee, ya gotta love a guy who would have campaign manager named Snort 'em!Seriously, the Greens will be doing most of the "heavy lifting" here - as far as contacting the media, etc.
WE should be able to just piggy-back onto their parade!

From Who Decides What Voices We Hear? (07/25/02):
...NBC and its subsidiary, Telemundo, are planning a gubernatorial candidate debate. They were ready to invite all three candidates, but a Davis representative made it clear that Davis would pull out if the Green Party Latino was included. NBC capitulated to the threat and agreed to exclude Camejo...
That was THEN. THIS is now.

From http://la.indymedia.org/calendar/event_display_list.php:

Peter Camejo Gubernatorial Debate with Simon
Tue Sep. 17, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Beverly Hills Hilton
Event Topic:
Event Type:  demonstration
Perhaps the RATs will be there, afterall.

How about going retro? Crooked politicans use to be rode out of town on a rail. I think a nice fence post with Davis straddling it and being thrown past a mock state line would certainly send a message.

Okay guys, Jim says he is ready just set the date!

How about we organise a joint freep in Sacramento to Dump Davis? This could be a big freep with chapters all over the state getting together to make a big noise and get media attention to our campaign!

Ron Dog, this was your idea, how do you wish to proceed?
