Yes, John, the Rats may have overplayed their hand. The presstitutes' collusion in trying to chill the war--UN, Chirac, Ramsey Clark, Scowcroft etc. stories--will be shown to have been for nil. Congress has to support the war (at least for the election) and the more they debate, the less chance the 'Rats have to lie about the economy, prescription drugs etc. Hehehehe....

The House will immediately approve a resolution by an overwhelming vote and send it to the Senate, where Daschle will find a way to posture and bottle it up until after the 'lections. Or at least ATTEMPT to. This might be one of the last things Little Tommie does before assuming the post of Senate Minority Leader.

The Dems keep saying there needs to be a debate and a vote, so what's stopping them? Bring up a resolution and debate it then have a vote. Simple huh?

Except that the Dems don't really want a debate and a vote so much as they want Bush to have to come to them hat in hand and ask for one. After all, there is no requirement that the Persiednt ask for a declaration of war (or it's modern equivelent, a resolution) for Congress to pass one. What they want to establish that the Adminstration is on a short leash in the war on terror and foreign policy in general. Hence they continue to say Bush must "make the case" for an Iraq invasion despite the fact that you would have to live in a cave in Nepal not to know the facts. They also dread Bush's increased prestige and popularity that a successful operation would bring, but want to at least be able to share in the glory of a successful war. But a vote one way or the other will split their base. A yes vote will alienate the pacifist wing of the party, but a no vote will alienate moderate Democrats and independents who they need to get elected. So they are carping from the sidelines hoping they won't actually have to vote until at least after the elections.

The best plan for the Bush adminstration is to have Republican legislators sponsor resolutions authorizing the president to take whatever actions he needs to about Saddam. The Pubs should be able to force a vote in the House where it should pass easily. If Daschle doesn't bring it up in the Senate any later complaints about not having a say will be shown to be hollow political BS. That way either Bush gets another authorization and he pre-empts a Dem attack that they weren't consulted or if he doesn't get a resolution he can always go ahead and act without it based on the opinion of the White House Consul.

In forcing them on the record, everybody at home gets to watch.

And even though the Dims are still trying to call GW stupid, we will get find out who really is in support, not of the war on terror, but in support of this nation?

Excellent chess game. Very well played, indeed.

Excellent essay!! You really nailed it, IMO.

As a 'fence-sitter' on the question of action on Iraq, I watched Cheney yesterday and have been persuaded, by and large, we need to go forward as a next, but not last step.

I still think you were off base with your prior essay raising the question of 'latent anti-semitism' by Matthews and the gang, but today's effort was superb.

JH2,

I hope you are right on this one.

I fear America is losing patience with the Iraq debate being leaked out in dribs and drabs. They want to hear President Bush make the case in another great speech. Next week to a Joint Session of Congress would work great for me. Then ask them to debate the issue and authorize the use of military force within ten days-- YES OR NO.

I don't really understand the purpose of all the endless TALK and saber-rattling, but I fully support ACTION to eliminate Saddam.

But, I trust this administration knows what they are doing (except Colin Powell needs to be muzzled it appears).

My half a cent,
Rob

I suspect internal DNC numbers show a November disaster. Their only hope is to motivate the troops and meanwhile hope for a Hail Mary salvation the day before election day.

That is, they have to run a primary and a national compaign at the same time. There is no happy outcome to such a delemma.

Another expression for it is "treading water."

A chorus of leading Democrats in recent weeks have clamored for full debate and a vote before any U.S. military action against the Baghdad regime.

House Democrat leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri has loudly insisted on it, arguing that, without explicit Congressional backing, any use of force would lack 'legitimacy'.

Speaking Monday at a campaign event in Waterbury, Conn., Gephardt said "the President has to get Congressional approval, he must have a debate on this issue and a vote in Congress."

He added that "this issue is much more than just a legal debate. The President will need the decisive support of the public and their elected representatives in order to initiate and sustain the effort that will be required to eliminate the threat posed by this regime."

Congress must get involved, echoed Democrat Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Through a spokesman he urged that "for the good of the country and for the long-term success of whatever approach we take, President Bush should follow his father's lead and support a vigorous and constructive debate on Iraq."

Man, the more cr** the DIMocRATS try to pull the more I don't understand them. (See below!)

Democrats are a strange bunch especially their leaders. They complain about politics of personnel destruction when that is how they try to divide the country. They have little pride in America, it seems that the American people serve for their pleasure only. If you don't cotton to the democratic line, you aren't American. They used the surplus for other countries and other people when there was much to do here at home. They take our best technologies and sell them to nations that will use the knowledge against us. They lack an enormous amount of integrity and don't seem to care as they flaunt sleazy ethics and morality in our faces.

We didn't have a government for the people under the Clinton administration, what we had was a Democrats Only need apply type of government and now they are attempting to replace a People's Government with their tired old arguments about an education system they didn't fix in 8 years, a health care program they messed up and couldn't fix in 8 years, a social security system they say needs fixing and did nothing about it in 8 years when in reality that system is fine as long as lawmakers don't spend the money that social security is meant for; they spent 8 years hiring federal workers with no qualifications as long as it meant a democratic vote leaving behind a dumbed down, bloated army of sleazy federal laborers who have plundered their departments of millions in dollars and equipment.

Democrats seem to have no respect, no real base from which true justice can spring, only justice that bends for them. They have no enthusiasm for country/nation, no pride, just the spoils from a rich nation for the DNC. They continue to huddle with shady and corrupt people both here in America and abroad for reasons that only benefit them. They are elitists and exclude the real Americans as they race for the Marxist Utopia they have dreamed about...where individual successes are discouraged in favor of a commune like population. They have learned nothing from failed socialism or failed communism; they still want to live like kings all the while painting a glowing picture of togetherness for the masses who work for them. It is called Slavery, servitude to a few at the top, domination over the people through higher taxes and rules and regulations. Democrats want a Unionized nation/world of bondage and they can surely have it by dividing the country with the deceptive lies they and the press propagandize with daily.

Stand tall Americans and stand firmly for the principals of our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, both of which are like the fabled Vampires silver cross or spike to the leading democrats, they don't want you to have either; it is these people who would return this country to the quagmire of corruption of the Clinton/Gore/Reno years.

The more I've thought about your analysis...the more RIGHT ON I wanted to tell you I think it is.

And it only takes one example re: the ploy of the Dems to keep trying to throw stuff against the wall to see if it will stick. What ever happened to their demands re: Harken?

Never come with a knife to a gun fight.

That's one dimensional thinking. In two dimensions you do bring the knife (hidden in your boot) with your gun in your hand. In three dimensions you also bring your brain.
