In my experiance, the liberals make no such distinction. If you disagree with things like sensitivity training, you're the ignorant, hate filled, toothless wonder. If you think that race based acceptance policies at universities are racist, you're the ignorant, hate filled, toothless wonder. If you hate everyone that is different from you and want to drive them all into the sea, you're....you guessed it, the ignorant, hate filled, toothless wonder.

I do not think the KKK ever went away, but it became very quiet for a long time. That they are now being more visible and open is a sign of a growing backlash against reparations, "reverse" discrimination, etc.

Wal-Mart has a vast consumer base. No telling how many just pocketed the card and started thinking.

As a Christian, who believes that skin color is irrelevant, I make those social observations from a neutral standpoint. Please do not take them as an endorsement of the KKK. A bunch of ARA (anti-racist action) fools in Maryland recently attacked a bunch of National Alliance members and innocent bystanders (because they all look alike, after all) at a bus stop and motel; not only did they try to beat people up, but they rushed into the motel throwing smoke bombs and generally behaving like the criminals that they are. As a result, most of the ARA in Maryland is behind bars or out on bail, facing assault, battery, and numerous other charges, including "hate crimes" charges. They are off the streets, but not, unfortunately, out of the gene pool. Having seen the species up close and personal, I can attest that your average street fighting leftist is every bit as stupid and ignorant as your average KKK loser. But guess which group gets the favorable media coverage?

Since that is never going to happen, lets bring this discussion back closer to reality.

What group - radical leftists or radical rightists - is better represented in the media? Which group has actual access to influencial people? Which group has sympathizers within the ruling elites? Which group has an actual chance of influencing policies which effect you, personally? Which group is more likely to attack you, either directly, physically, or indirectly through politics? Which group serves as a front group for, or the "bad cop", to the "good cop", of mainstream ruling elites, to further the interests of these elites? Which group serves as the "bouncer" or the thuggish street enforcer, for the policies of these elites?

The answer to all these is: radical leftists. The radical right is irrelevent, and has been ever since conservatives accepted the double standard foisted on them by the left, that certain views, policies, ideas, positions, politics, etc., were beyond the pale of public debate. The right has been fighting with one hand tied behind its back ever since (at least since WWII, or the 1950's at the latest). The mainstream left can use extreme left nutballs as "useful tools" for all kinds of projects; the right no longer has such an option to use its own extreme right. Hence, post-WWII politics has been a leftward ratchet: our politics can move leftward, but never rightward; the most "conservatives" can ever do is slow the ratchet effect a bit.

And let's not fall for the canard that "nazis" are leftists because they are socialists - leaving aside that in pre-WWII Europe many conservatives advocated forms of socialism, the fact is that, today, very few extreme rightists of any kind advocate socialism. There are a few nazi purists today who do advocate socialism, but these are a tiny minority within a tiny minority. Your average extreme rightist today wants a smaller government; right wing socialism is a fossil from the pre-WWII era.

In any case, neither extreme right or extreme left are going away. It's time to dispense with the wish-fulfillment fantasies. A reassessment of political realities by conservatives would be a welcome thing, but I suspect it will not happen until we have a massive crisis of some kind. Until then conservatives will play at politics and live in fear of being tarred with the "extreme right" label(s).

No; you misread my post: the KKK had nothing to do with it. The ARA attacked National Alliance members, and innocent bystanders. The NA is about as far from the KKK as you can get: apart from the younger skinheads, NA types tend to have college degrees, graduate degrees, professional jobs, higher income, etc. NA types tend to be urban or suburban, not rural; middle class, not lower class; and more intelligent, and better educated, than anyone in the KKK. Big difference.

There are probably NA members or supporters who are as crazy/dangerous as anyone in the KKK, but I'll wager that even an NA loon is smarter than anyone in the KKK.

Pre-WWII, the KKK represented entire white communities, and in fact represented a large segment of white America. As such it was not only representative, but effective (given the limitations of its rather anarchic and chaotic organization).

When southern whites backed away from any kind of violence, or activist politics to oppose "civil rights" in the 1960's, however, that was the effective end of any pretense that the KKK represented anyone but a few losers. Since then, the KKK has been toothless - which is fitting since some KKK members, in a fit of self-stereotyping, are also, literally, toothless.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We need to be honest and acknowledge the fact that we all harbor a certain level of racial prejudice. To deny it is to deny the truth. With that said, I prefer to overlook a person's ignorance and much prefer to parlay on the level of personal honor and integrity. Heck, some of my best friends are white supremacists, and I'm black.

I lived in Memphis for 28 years and never found KKK lit in the bathrooms....been to Muscle Shoals to Memphis many times....didn't find any KKK stuff in the bathrooms...although I did see a few hand written racist notes on walls....and as recall, the SERIOUS race riots were in the NORTH...not in the South.

You're right I did misread your post.

I never even heard of the National Alliance until I got a recruitment Freepmail from them about a year ago. They are loons, and I have no sympathy for them. I have some friends who could be considered racist by some, and even they have either never heard of them, or think they are loons.

They are a small insignificant group and they don't worry me. I am much more concerned with these far left anti-racist anarchist groups.

I'm more concerned with the "Free Mumia" crowd than I am with the "kill everyone whose skin color is like that of Mumia" simply because the former wields much more power.

Howard confronts Carver's bigotry by showing how irrational it is. I caught him on E! one night when Stern was getting Carver to rank the races (and other groups, like homosexuals). Carver knew that he hated these people (why, no one may ever know) but he had never had figured out who he hated (or liked) more.

I don't have cable anymore and Howard has never been on the radio down here (I don't know how well something like that comes across on the radio).
