You are walking on dangerous ground here. If a child has a right to be educated who infringes on that right when they are failed? Would you have the Child Protection Services take a child out a home when the child was in the 8th grade and could not read despite being public school all his life because his parents should have seen that he was educated? Would you allow parents to sue school districts for infringing on their child's right to an education when their child fails a grade? Not for not promoting him, but for not educating him in the first place. It is very slippery to say that one has a right to anything if you are not willing to punish people for taking it away.

In the case that a person fulfills two roles in relation to another it is ridiculous to declare one of them irrelevant.

If a woman marries her sister's exhusband and kills their kids, is she killing her nieces/nephews or stepchildren?

Texas actually did back that up to August 19th. I know that a waiver of some kind can be had, but most of the school districts in DFW broke years' worth of tradition to start on a Monday this year because they couldn't start before the 19th.

Just think CholeraJoe, a few more weeks in public school and the kids would of killed each other and saved the mom from having to do it.

The same 4-6 children that are the most aggressive, least disciplined, and least willing to accept discipline come from stay-at-home-mom families. Is it just coincidence? I dunno, maybe. I will also say that these particular children are extremely intelligent, considerably further along cognitively, yet remain the most rowdy and aggressive in a group setting.

I would say that it is coincidence. I have taught SS for years and have not experienced that at all. I can also speak for my own children who are NEVER a discipline problem. And I'm sure they aren't because I constantly check up on my kids and they know that if they cause ANY problems, they are OUT of that class. I had to do it once with one of my three boys and he straightened out quite nicely after that. (At the tender age of five, he was so girl crazy that he was stalking them druing class--driving them nuts. I told him he couldn't talk to, touch, sit near or even LOOK at a girl or he'd be out of the class forever. He's now nine years old and I haven't had a problem since. However, I do expect the girl thing to kick in again in a few years :-> )

When mothers with a GED insist on homeschooling their kids I get pretty worked up.

Well, you shouldn't. If you do some research (I'll provide links to some, if you'd like), you'll find that the education of the parent has nothing at all to do with the success of the homeschool. It's pretty obvious that all the training that public school teachers have hasn't given the nation's children quality education.

There are many "cons" to public schools. I would be all for home schooling, were it not for the MEGA VOID in socialization during those critical years.

You can provide that, if you're really concerned about it. Socialization doesn't have to take place only in a classroom. You can find all the diversity or whatever you want in many other places. You can also discipline your children. As a matter of fact, you have full control over all of that. Your children can be homeschooled and not turn out like the ones in your SS class.

Mega void in socialization? Wow...

You don't know about the wonderful homeschool lifestyle then. We don't sit in caves with our offspring, shielding their eyes from sun and people. LOL...what a joke!

I DON'T believe the shooting had anything to do with/or not homeschooling. The woman could be having actual physical or mental problems that caused her to go over the edge. The husband should have been getting her help from a doctor...There are illnesses that create problems and maybe she needed medical attention instead of homeschooling her children and she "went crazy" from being undiagnosed. It is terrible what she did, and suicide would have been better than murdering her children, but I don't think she knew what she was doing at actual time of shooting. She stopped homeschooling for a reason, WHY?

PS started the 19th here. I was going to start on 9/2, but the last of my books arrived early, so we went ahead and started yesterday.
