OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Ward Weaver's lawyer says his client gave permission Friday for the search of his property that will continue Sunday.
Timothy Lyons tells The Oregonian that Weaver gave his consent because he wanted to "bring closure to the families" of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis.
Weaver -- who is jailed on an unrelated rape charge -- has not been charged in the disappearances of the 13-year-old girls. They vanished last winter.
Human remains were found in a shed on Weaver's property yesterday -- but authorities aren't saying if the body is that of either missing girl. It could take a medical examiner days to make a positive identification.
Investigators are resuming their search on the property this morning.
Some in the neighborhood say the FBI should have acted sooner in the case. Weaver's ex-wife says she was suspicious of him and told the FBI about it months ago.

His lawyer knew that public pressure was such that the search was going to be conducted anyway and so told his client that he should go ahead and consent to the search to put himself into a better light. Thats my supposition anyway.
This guy didn't consent out of the "goodness" of his heart......IMO

What is shocking here is that no one ever got an effing warrant to search the place. Not after search and rescue dogs "hit" on human remains (with ashley'scented items given to the dogs), and *actual human remains* were found in coyote droppings across the street in a field, IN MARCH.
Not after the son's daughter was assaulted and strangled (though not to death, she escaped, running away naked and screaming for help), not after the son said his father actually CONFESSED to him that he had commited both murders and intended to flee to Mexico.
The prosecutors had probably cause for a warrant in MARCH.
After the rape, they had probably cause in the reported confession.
No, they find the remains because the perp decides HE wants closure and he says, go search, he tells them where and what to look for and what they will find.
Go police. Go FBI. Go s* yourselves. I am so disgusted by the lack of skill and effort used to find these girls and and least make it so they families know what happened.
Not to mention, they left him free to murder and rape again.
And he DID rape, and he DID try to murder.
Its just outrageous, I hope someone is called to answer for the failure to get a warrant in March.

I wonder how many on this forum will think him innocent just like David Westerfield...

The only "closure" this evil monster should get is the closure of the lid of his coffin as he is BURRIED ALIVE!

All kidding aside, police incompetence iss rampant throughout the country. The price for 30+ years of leftist and PC policy.

his coffin as he is BURRIED ALIVE!
On an irregular schedule, then recussitated (sp?) after he passes out.
And told that on some day that he doesn't know, he will either be allowed to expire
or will get a Soviet-styled (unannounced) bullet behind the ear when he's being
led about the prison.
OK, I know that's vengeful talk...but it's hard to restrain in these sort of cases.

FoxNews also reported that Ashley had accused this man of molesting her last summer! He denied it and no charges were filed. That alone should have made the police suspicious of him!

This is doubly and trebly true in GreenPeace Oregon, where no evidence can possibly rise to the lofty level of probable cause in these leftist/socialist judges little minds.

Probably none.
The two cases are hardly compareable.

Really? David Westerfield sexually assault his victim and then dumped her... This guy probably sexually assaulted these girls and then buried them... A lot of similiarities.

What puzzles me most on this is the delay by law enforcement. Most cops I know would want to bust this guy the instant they could pin it on him. I wonder if they might think he could lead them to something larger like a group of people involved in this type of activity.
I think the missing Salt Lake city girl may have fallen into this type of thing.
To: Asclepius
According to news reports the @sswipe confessed! That is the reason the FBI searched the storage shed first and quickly found the first body! There is a report that articles of the girls' personal property (backpacks, etc.) have been buried in containers around the property too.

How can you tell when a lawyer is lying? When his mouth is open.
Ward is no longer a resident of the rental property in question, having already been evicted. The property owner, on the other hand, did consent to the search.

I don't know. How many dead bodies did they find on Westerfield's property? How many of his son's girlfriends did he rape?
Apples and oranges.
