AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS? (a question for Freepers)
August 22nd, 2002 | Sabertooth

Posted on 08/22/2002 7:04:53 AM PDT by Sabertooth

This is a vanity post, let's get that straight from the start.

Perhaps the most vain aspect of it is the conceit that it might stay on topic, but I'm going to give it a whirl.

One of the more contentious species of threads encountered on Free Republic are those dealing with the subject of America's immigration policy, particularly with regard to the Illegal Aliens currently in our country. According a range of reasonable sources, the estimates of their numbers here currently here range from six to thirteen million. Whatever the actual count, there are quite a few people now in violation of American immigration law.

One subtopic that inevitably arises is the question of Amnesty:

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?

That's the question I'd like to put forward to the members of Free Republic.

Almost as inevitably on threads dealing with this subject, flame wars erupt. It's not my purpose to instigate another round of that, they're rather predictable. So I'd like to ask that your comments, if you're inclined to share them, focus on the big picture of American immigration policy, with particular attention to the subject of Amnesty. I'm not interested in the stock and gratuitous divisiveness of race-baiting or referring to the President as "Jorge," or anything of that nature from any quarter. It achieves nothing, it's sulphurous methane heat with no light shed.

I'd also like to avoid ad hominem ambushes. I'm genuinely interested in learning the collective feelings of Free Republic members on this subject. If you're gonna post, I'd like to ask that you ante up with your opinion on the question at hand before engaging the discussion with others. No taking potshots from the obscurity of the sidelines. I'll post my opinion below at #1.

Fair enough?

So, once again, here's the question:

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?

So you would deport one of your family members if they fell in love with an illegal and married him or her?

Both parties grovel for the illegal alien vote and the only thing the dimocrats have to offer as their grovelers, is the likes of Daschele, Gephart, Sore, Lieberman, Rodspam-Klinton and John "the Ambulance chaser" Edwards.

President George W. Bush, isn't perfect-I am sure he would be the first to admit that-but when he is stood up beside the above listed dimocrats and other choices within our own party, his flaws by comparison seem non-existant.

Bush is the right man for the job in these trying times, I support his actions, trust his judgement and Pray God's blessings and annointing upon him.

I would deport them if they knowingly married an illegal alien, just like they were illegal aliens themselves. If they love the illegal alien, let them learn to love the alien's homeland.

Let my relative and his/her illegal alien spouse take their place in line behind those honorable law abiding people of that same land, waiting to come here legally. Anything less is a penalty against the law abiding and a reward for criminals.

And the GOP offers similar panderers, so what is the point you're making? They're all pandering to people who can only vote illegally.

President George W. Bush, isn't perfect-I am sure he would be the first to admit that-but when he is stood up beside the above listed dimocrats and other choices within our own party, his flaws by comparison seem non-existant.

Next to most of the democrats, Lucifer looks like a good choice. That doesn't make Bush's standing with the democrats on immigration and amnesty any more palatable. He's simply working on merging the two parties the way he did as governor of Texas. That's what that ridiculous "uniter not a divider" garbage was all about. You want to merge with the democrats, go ahead. I'll keep opposing them. Opposing Bush is a logical move if opposing the democrats is the goal.

Bush is the right man for the job in these trying times, I support his actions, trust his judgement and Pray God's blessings and annointing upon him.

That doesn't square with your opposition to illegal aliens at all. Bush wants to facilitate the invasion. He's definitely not the right man for anything other than dismantling this country. I trust him as far as I could sling him with my left arm.

How many border patrol agents would it take to get illegal immigration down close to zero on the borders?

Can you break it down north and south?

I, too, live in what is called central Texas and I have differing views on Hispanics (whatever that is) or Mexicans. My position has always been the illegals who are arriving now are not at all the same caliber of people as the people of Mexican descent who have lived here longer than all of our ancesters (except my husband's). These people have broken the law, first and foremost. They are not being made to obey even fundamental laws that we have to obey. My taxes also have doubled in the last three years on a very small fixer-upper which we had planned for a retirement home and as things are going, the taxes will be prohibitive for retirement, so we are looking outside the state of Texas.

The state of Texas, school districts, the city of Dallas and how many more are broke and there is only one reason for this. It is not because we are not paying enough taxes. It is simply we have had an influx of too many people using the social services and these people do not pay into the tax base that supports these services. These are the facts. They are not pretty, but they are facts.

I also have Mexicans in my family and, believe me, when I am speaking of the illegals who are destroying this great state and great nation, I am not talking about the likes of my family members or of the friends and neighbors I have had for my 61 years in this state.

President Bush should announce today he is closing the borders and putting troops to guard it, that within 30 days the INS will begin sending home anyone who is here illegally(with or without anchor babies) home, and that he is going to fine any employer who is employing illegals, $1,000 per day (per illegal), retroactive to today. The 30 days will give them time to get their affairs in order.

I believe post # 816 is the one I am responding to here. It is a long but interesting and informative read, that holds ones interest all the way through. All I can do after reading this, is to offer my apology for completely misjudging your view and urge everyone else to take the time to read it in detail.

Here's a big, I agree with everything you said, BUMP!

"i support a swap program, we swap out lazy good for nothing americans on the tax dole for hard working illegals who help make our businesses run."

That sounds good, but as long as these people "who make the businesses run" take just as much if not more of the 'tax dole' as the lazy good for nothings, we are no better off. The greedy corporations are fine, the politicians are fine - but the taxpayers and this nation are still footing the bill. At least, we can apply the law to some of our own 'good for nothings' - but the law is not applied to the illegals.

"If some 'illegal aliens' can justify their presence here and if they would be useful participants in our society "

How does someone who broke the law to get here justify their presence?

", we run a risk of abandoning them to the liberal nannies who want to scoop them up in their arms and coddle them, creating a whole new dependent class of voters that will ensure them a power base, which will surely lead to the destruction of this nation as we know it."

They are already there. Just because they take advantage of the capitalist system and start business, make money, doesn't mean they don't at the same time, partake of the taxpayer's money. These people are not ignorant of the ways of the American system of rewards for nothing. They take advantage of both.

No, I don't think anyone who has broken the law to come here should just be allowed to stay. That only encourages more.

"Enough is enough. I've made up my mind to sit out this election. So long as Bush and the GOP grovel on the ground for the illegal alien vote I'm not going to reward them with my vote."

Absolutely. President Bush as made my vote, my citizenship, and my country's sovereignty irrelevant. Unless the illegals are sent home, this next election will be the last one my vote will have a chance of counting - and I am suppose to give to the man who is responsible for that?

Points well taken-now tell me, Twodees, with whom would you replace President Bush? Jesus hasn't declared his candidacy as yet. THe time is growing closer to when he will-"But no man knoweth the day nor the hour."

Lucifer is available every election, running under many names but is exposed by his/her always pro-abortion stance, I argue that he would have trouble looking like a good choice up beside even the likes Stalin, Mao,Sadam Hussian, Usama Bin Laden, Castro or even Bill or Hillary Clinton-or in any of the many famous human bodies that have played host to this paracite.

"I think Ajnin would be able to answer this one, better than I could."

Ajnin, IYO how many border patrol agents would it take to reduce illegal immigration to near zero, eliminate the terrorist threat, etc. along our northern and southern borders?

What kind of manpower do you guys need?

Can you break it down north and south?
