Billy McKinney- show him the door next?
various links | 8-22-02 | The Heavy Equipment Guy

Cynthia McKinney, whose ill-considered remarks made her a disgrace to her sex, her race, and the people she claimed to represent, has been shown the door.

Voters in her Father district may want to review his remarks and history, and consider if they really want this man as a spokesman for them any longer...

Here is a cogent summary of Billy McKinney's quotes, compiled by member mhking. Check the links below to collaborate them:

Mr. McKinney has a history of such intemperate comments. In 1996, he came to his daughter's defense and called her opponent, Republican John Mitnick, a "racist Jew"--

11Alive made a point of re-running the footage where Billy McKinney responds to a question about his daughter's "fudging" of Andrew Young's endorsement: "That ain't nothin'. Jews have bought everybody. Jews. J-E-W-S."

He replied, "That ain't nothin'. The Jews done bought everything anyway. That ain't nothin'." When the reporter then said, Did you say 'Jews'?" The campaign manger replied, "That's right. Jews. J-E-W-S."

Billy's a former Atlanta cop who is now a state representative in a "disadvantaged" urban district (read "the ghetto"). He actually (and yes, this story is true and not an urban legend) pulled a knife on another legislator on the floor of the Georgia State House during a disagreement, threatening to "cut" the other representative. Billy got away with it with little more than a slap on the hand.

When Jihad Cindy's district was being realigned in the early 90's (the original 4th ran from DeKalb Co. in a narrow swath east toward Augusta, then southeastward toward Savannah, hugging the river, and in some places being only meters wide), federal hearings were held in Savannah. One of the people who testified against Cindy's position (that she should keep her gentrified, oddly-drawn, majority black district) was then-GOP Congressman Gary Franks from Connecticut (who at the time was the only black Republican in the House). When Franks emerged, the elder McKinney confronted Franks, and threatened to physically beat Franks.

Billy got off again.

So for him to say this was no big surprise. I actually would have been surprised if we hadn't gotten through the end of this without him opening his big, out-of-control mouth.

I wanted to get the info posted here for future reference. As Jihad Cindy and her Daddy blame the J-E-W-S (and as he told a reporter from one of the Atlanta stations yesterday, "the Zionists"), I wanted the *real* reasons she lost memorialized: it wasn't just the crossover voters, it wasn't the JOOS, it was because she lost her base. Reading that one of the precincts deep in her base only recorded 1/10th of a vote for her in this election than in 2000 was truly significant.

Do you know when the Billy McKinney runoff is going to be held?

The Nation of Islam, CAIR, the American Muslim Council, folks like that. Jihad Cindy could also be a lobbyist for Palestinian causes if she sits out a year.

This is a great post, backhoe. The word needs to get out on this "bigot of bigots." He has used his race to get away with absurd actions and words that no one else would even dare to try to get away with.

I have bookmarked for later reading. I will definitely do my homework.

I really appreciate the link... I see what you mean about "smart growth" and a few other "buzz phrases" from the left side of the aisle... but you probably could work with him, and he's got to be better that "He Who Sired Cynthia..."

Great idea! That's one reason I put things on this board- so others can reference them.

Do you know when the Billy McKinney runoff is going to be held?

I have read it's in 2 weeks- but have not confirmed that.

Thanks very much... we only have a 2 week "window of opportunity," but maybe we can do something with it.

I suppose this is as good a time as any to mention the "how-to" of e-activism:

Runoff will be held September 10th (that of course is a Tuesday).

Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Important point: IF YOU VOTED IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY, YOU MAY NOT VOTE IN THE DEMOCRATIC RUNOFF. HOWEVER, IF YOU DIDN'T VOTE AT ALL THE FIRST TIME AROUND, YOU CAN VOTE IN THE DEMOCRATIC RUNOFF!

Can you blame his daughter for being the way she is? The apple doesn't fall far from the (racist) tree. Too bad. Hatred breeds hatred. Hooray that she's no longer going to be in Congress! What a big sigh of relief for all of us.

So there is hope that we can be rid of the McKinney's in public life once and for all. It should be interesting to see if his 'constituents' approve of his hateful rhetoric and reward him with re-election.

I do think there's a chance of returning the senior McKinney to private-sector employment- it's worth trying. Naturally, I wonder how much vote fraud and intimidation will play in the runoff election.

Whoo-ee!

I'm certainly not surprised at Billy's ego-boosting proclamation. The sponsors are the "usual suspects" - Tyrone Brooks, of course, another long-time race-baiting local house member and Cynthia's campaign manager. He may have had enough of Cynthia, however, playing for the press her telephone message to him regarding Andy Young's supposed defection from Jihad Cindy . . .

IIRC, LaNett and Pamela are sisters representing adjoining districts. I used to have some contact with them, because their districts were part of the neighborhood association I chaired for awhile back in the late 80s/early 90s. They struck me at the time as nice ladies and well-meaning but not the sharpest knives in the drawer; I think they are just "going along to get along" with the traditional power brokers in their neck of the woods (Brooks & McKinney). Georganna Sinkfield ditto. Grace Davis is gone now, I don't know Joe Heckstall at all.

If you go here you can look at the sort of legislation these people are sponsoring and get a good idea of where they are coming from. This particular group seems to vote in lockstep with Brooks and McKinney a significant part of the time.

However, they are (like Earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) "mostly harmless". The ladies are actually quite nice to deal with and are just trying to do right by their districts, which are poor and relatively powerless (it used to be a talking point in our neighborhood association that the 49th and the 50th have more toxic waste sites, landfills, dumps, and sewer plants than any other districts in the city.) Tyrone is a loud talker but has not to my knowledge been a physical threat to anyone or anywhere near as hateful as McKinney.

Besides, none of them are up for re-election at the moment.
