If you know a Veteran, someone in your family, friend of the family, neighbor, who served their country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them. Thank them for the sacrifice they made for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style, are thankful for every service member in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call, in both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

The other night it was raining really hard and the thunder and lightening seemed like it was right over us! I am really surprised it isn't raining right now. It feels like it is going to rain.
No, I haven't talked to the docs yet. My uncle is very independent and I don't want to step on his toes, but will suggest it tomorrow. :)

No. Same thing. I am really starting to enjoy it. I am doing the Q.C. testing for Tactical radios. As a former member of the American Society for Quality Control, I can be a picky SOB! I like to think that I am helping to defeat terror through reliable comm equipment.
Sorry folks, I'm beat. It is now 2am here nd I gotta catch som Z's.
See 'ya in the am.

OOOOOW! I really do sympathize with him. Pinched nerves are excrutiating. That's what I've dealt with for the past few days. No collapsed discs but vertebrae out of alignment. Same result, though. I'm glad my back popped back into place last night. I wish it could be so easy for your poor uncle but his problem is definitely worse than I had to deal with. :-(

I completely understand that independent thingy. He needs to feel that he is in control. Good for him. But sometimes I think doctors, and others, take advantage of our seasoned citizens.

He is supposed to be going in to the doctor to schedule surgery because the cortisone shots have not helped. I personally think the docs are putting him off and I am really disappointed to see that medical care in Minnesota might be getting as bad as in California! Then I got a message today that my aunt and my cousin's daughter-in-law were both admitted to the hospital here yesterday. My aunt had a stroke and my cousin's dil has meningitis! When it rains, it pours. They are both in the hospital here in Minneapolis so I am glad I am close by and will be able to see them.

Oh, no! Prayers for your whole family. Your timing looks pretty good for getting to Minnesota; the right place at the right time.
To: MistyCA
Wow, it IS pouring, isn't it. At least you're close by and can spend time with them.
With all that piled on you, whenever the burden gets too heavy you know we at the Canteen are here to lighten the load a little. :-)

I guess I should get off my duff and go clean the guest house. My best friend is coming up from Atlanta for the weekend and it's a bit dusty over there. It shouldn't take long. I'll deal with THIS wreck tomorow. Oooooo, I dread it.:-D
I hope you run into my effervescent friend one day in a grocery store or some such place. She should be in Anchorage by now. She's a jewel.
I'll say 'good night' before I get to work on that house. Sleep well.
See ya tomorrow!

Why are you always running off? You'll be back won't you? Hurry up, move, get settled and come back. You're a class act yourself, ya know? :)
I was going to post to you last night but forgot. Our baby ducks are as big as their mother now and they are learning to fly. We feed them cracked corn and they love it. I hope we haven't spoiled them too badly. I'll try to get a picture for you.
Please don't go again. *sniff* Please. :)
