The Republican Party has a proud history. From its inception in the 1850s to the Presidency of George W. Bush today, the Grand Old Party (GOP) has stood throughout its history for equal rights for every American, free enterprise, economic growth, a strong defense, and the principles of democracy in the United States Constitution.

It all began in a Ripon, Wisconsin schoolhouse in March 1854 where anti-slavery activists called for the founding of a new political party - a political party dedicated to equal opportunity for all. The Republican Party was born.

The GOP's quick ascent to the forefront of national politics changed the very landscape of the United States. With President Lincoln at the helm, the United States defeated the Confederacy in the Civil War and preserved the union. Lincoln's Republican ideals of freedom for all began to heal the national rift between the North and the South.

Republicans championed equal rights for all Americans and, in particular, for African-Americans. The GOP passed the 13th amendment banning slavery, the 14th amendment extending the Bill of Rights to the states, and the 15th amendment according voting rights to African-Americans.

The early women's rights movement was solidly Republican. Nearly all suffragists, including Susan B. Anthony, favored the GOP. Prior to ratification of the 19th amendment, women could already vote in most predominantly Republican states.

The colorful Republican Theodore Roosevelt led the country into the twentieth century. With the President as its national spokesman, the Republican Party continued to keep up with the pace of history. While Roosevelt broke up many corporate monopolies, Republican majorities in Congress enacted such reforms as worker safety requirements, and pure food and drug laws.

In the 1950s and 1960s, it was again the Republican Party which faced the issue of race relations. Republican federal judge Frank Johnson overturned the law requiring blacks to sit in back of the bus. In 1957, Congress enacted the administration's landmark Civil Rights Act. Later that year, President Eisenhower used troops to enforce Brown v. Board of Education. Congressional Republicans overwhelmingly backed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

In 1980, "Morning in America" dawned with an inspirational new leader, Ronald Reagan. After two terms as Governor of California, Reagan won the presidency, vowing to cut taxes, boost economic growth, and rebuild a neglected military. The success of the Reagan's agenda launched a decade of prosperity and defeated the global Communist threat.

The 1990s were an exciting time for the GOP. President George H. Bush led the charge against Iraqi aggression toward Kuwait and heralded in the post-Cold War era of democracy and free markets. In 1994, under the leadership of Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole, the Republican Party gained control of Congress for the first time in forty years. A Republican Congress enacted dramatic legislative accomplishments such as welfare reform leading to significant drops in welfare rolls nationwide, the first balanced budget in a generation, and historic tax cuts.

In response to the terrorist attacks against America, President George W. Bush proposed the most extensive reorganization of the federal government since the 1940s by creating the cabinet-level Department of Homeland Security. Today, under the leadership of President George W. Bush, the Republican Party is committed to extending hope and prosperity to all Americans. President Bush leads the fight against terrorism both at home and abroad to ensure a free and stable world for future generations of Americans.

Our aim is to generate support for Republican candidates for the Senate and the Congress to enable Republicans to Take Back the Senate and Keep the House.

A Republican Congress enacted dramatic legislative accomplishments such as welfare reform leading to significant drops in welfare rolls nationwide, the first balanced budget in a generation, and historic tax cuts.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to point out to a Republican Congressman that the "balanced budget" he had taken credit for in an address at the conference I was attending was a total fraud. Using excess Social Security tax revenue to balance the Federal budget was no different than a U.S. corporation adding its employee pension contributions to its revenue.

The look he had on his face was both pathetic and priceless -- kind of like, "So you know how full of sh!t we really are."

Thanks for your comments! Figured we have had enough negatives on here and time to have a "Feel Good" uplifting post to get ready for the upcoming campaigns.

This is going to be a nasty campaign season from all accounts if what Terry McAuliffe has been doing in the last few days is any indication. But then we wouldn't expect any less from a campaign that is planned and orchestrated by Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Carville w/his co-horts, and Terry McAuliffe who is nothing more than the clinton mouthpiece. AND we cannot forget the clinton puppets in the Senate and House Daschle and Gephardt who demand and expect absolute loyalty of fellow Congressional Democrats in the clintons/carville strategy of slash and burn tactics of the DemocRATS.

There are a few honorable Democrats in Congress -- one being Cong Ralph Hall of Texas who has earned my respect!

Republicans See Senate Runoff for Landrieu

Seeking to add fuel to the talk of a runoff in Louisiana's Senate race, nationalRepublicans released polling Friday that showed Sen. MaryLandrieu (D) drawing less than 50 percent of the vote when matched against a trio of Republican challengers.

Landrieu took 46 percent to 13 percent for Rep. JohnCooksey; State Elections Commissioner Suzanne Haik Terrell received 10 percent, and state Rep. Tony Perkins garnered 6 percent.The poll was done byVoter/Consumer Research on July 29 and 30 for the NationalRepublicanSenatorial Committee. Five hundred registered voters were tested with a 4.5 percent margin of error.

Under Louisiana election law, all candidates run in an open primary onNov. 5.If no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote, the two top votegetters regardless of party advance to a Dec. 7 runoff.

In potential runoff matchups, Terrell ran the strongest againstLandrieu, trailing the incumbent 51 percent to 38 percent.

Interesting that you should say that. The Republican Congressman in question (Bob Franks of New Jersey) gave up his seat to run for the U.S. Senate back in 2000 and lost. Good riddance, I said to myself at the time. Anyone as dopey as that who can't even beat an obscure Marxist like Jon Corzine shouldn't even be in politics.

I'm simply suggesting that instead of blindly supporting someone from the Republican Party, maybe we ought to think very hard about whether the candidate is worth supporting at all.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee probably agrees with me -- you'll notice that there is no mention here in this article of current Republican Senate leader (and poster-boy for mediocrity) Trent Lott.

With President Lincoln at the helm, the United States defeated the Confederacy in the Civil War and preserved the union. Lincoln's Republican ideals of freedom for all began to heal the national rift between the North and the South.

Lincoln was a Whig, and advocated economic policies (higher taxes, protective tarrifs, federal subsidies for business, a national bank and paper money (inflationary) and pork-barrel projects, etc.) that todays modern Republican Party opposes. His suspension of the writ of habeas corpus was declared unconstitutional by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, yet Lincoln refused to comply with the decision. Almost 14,000 northerners were illegally and unconsitutionally jailed for voicing dissent againt Lincoln, and hundreds of northern newspapers were closed despite the 1st amendemnt protections of a free press. Additionally Lincoln favored colonization/repatriation of blacks, not equal treatment as American citizens. At least Mr. Zak can get the history correct.

That said, I consider myself republican/libertarian because of the "modern" party platform - smaller government - more personal freedoms, less taxes, and the recognition of states rights an limited, enumerated federal powers. The government envisioned by my favorite President, Ronald W. Reagan.

Unfortunately, that is past history. There is no resemblance of those people of yesteryear to the modern republicrats. I see them copying the democrats domestic programs on a daily basis.

The admin is very close to ( if not there already) to spending trillions of new dollars for social programs and "security".

The foregoing is fact, not, republicrat bashing.

Unless and until they start to obey their sworn oath to uphold the Constitution, this independant voter will not vote for either party.

Don't think for a moment that politicians are out to better our lives, rather, they are out to enrich themselves.

That would normally be the situation in most races that the incumbent would have a cake walk..... Hey they have to put out some hope or the party would fold up. Remember the cash needs to be circulated in the economy win or lose so don't encourage them to fold just yet.
