Ronald Reagan's condition is worsening and his friends have told the New York Daily News that he "is steadily slipping in his terminal battle with Alzheimer's disease."

"He's bedridden and helpless," his son, famed radio talk show host Michael told NewsMax.com recently. According to the News, the 91-year-old beloved former president's mental deterioration has increased over the past months. "He no longer knows who Nancy is," one source, referring to Reagan's wife of 50 years, told the News. "Some days he seems to recognize her as someone who's familiar, but most of the time she's just a blank to him." "He's becoming more difficult to deal with," a source close to the family confided to the News. "Both his physical and his mental problems have gotten worse."

The News said that a former Reagan aide confirmed the sad news which was revealed even as an old Reagan friend, Charlton Heston was revealing that he too suffers from the early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

"Our family knows all too well the cruelty of this disease, and we pray that God will give the Heston family, especially [Heston's wife] Lydia, . . . the strength to face each day that lies ahead," Nancy Reagan said in a statement released to the media.

You know how it is when you are a child and you look at your Grandpa and think there is no way that guy is ever going to die. Then you grow up and have to find out, the hard way, that even Grandpa gets old and dies. Sad then, sad now. As I watch my children grow and become more and more enlightened as to what virtue, morals, and ethics really are, the more things like this bother me. Ronald Reagan truly shown brightly as a beacon of decency and clear thought. Only in the past few years have people really begun to understand what he did for this country, including myself.

The thought of the Gipper leaving us is truly difficult to bear.

To inject a little humor, regarding deserved or undeserved ends: Didn't Genesis (the rock band) have a video back in the 80's that showed Ronald Reagan as Rambo, bandolier and all? I'm sure they didn't mean it to be so, but I always thought that to be a positive image!

That's because they've been politically correct monstrosities, adorned with ugly feminists and ethnically endowed historical non-entities, foisted upon us by the leftist cabal in Washington.

Put The Gipper on a dollar coin, and conservatives will go out of their way to use it. The "suprising" success of the Reagan Dollar will demonstrate just what philosophy is dominant among real people in the U.S.

We very rarely hear about President Reagan's health other than in reference to Alzheimer's. I wonder, and I have to wonder if the stories are slowly coming out now due to the end being near. After all he is pretty old.

If that is the case that is fine, I just hope that the media treats these stories today with dignity.

To know he may be bedridden really hurts me and frankly I hope the end comes quick. To see an elder linger like that for a long time is just a painful horror.

Before anyone calls me names, I lived with my Alzheimers grandmother until she was 6 weeks shy of 97. I was her primary caregiver until that time. She fell and broke both hips and I had no choice but to put her in a home at that time. She lingered for 14 months at a nursing home and died a week after her 98th birthday. Watching her those last 14 or so months was just too painful for me so I limited my visits and let the nurses and doctors take care of her. It was perhaps the most painful decision I ever had to make.

Yes President Ronald Wilson Reagan the man is fading away.  So did George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other greats. While others slip into oblivion, the personna of Reagan has pealed away.  The best of what the man offered to the nation remains behind.  We are assured that despite all odds, if we will pursue the lofty goals that guide our course, we can achieve anything.  Would any of us have been as assured of this without the example of Ronald Wilson Reagan?

I think the Reagan Dollar is an excellent idea. The problem with past attempts has been the coin size and weight selected was always nearly the same as a quarter.

The model should be the British Pound coin. If you haven't seen one, they are gold in color, heavy and buttery soft to the touch, and are about a half inch in diameter. They look and feel substantial. It would be a perfect tribute to a genuinely great American.

Grant was a Republican. Why lose one of our own? By putting Reagan on the dollar coin we can rid ourselves of a PC coin.

The Reagan dollar will be popular, which will agonize the left.
