Hot, dry weather concerns Oregon firefighters
The Associated Press 8/12/02 10:28 AM
Firefighters battling the giant lightning-caused Biscuit fire in southern Oregon and northern California watched nervously Monday as hot, dry and windy conditions moved into the fire zone.
A new fire, this one human caused, sprang up Sunday in eastern Oregon.
"This one has potential. If we don't catch it today, it's going to be a biggie," said David Widmark, spokesman for the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center in Portland.
The new fire, named the Bald Green Butte fire, was burning on 100 acres near a Ponderosa forest and rugged terrain about 17 miles northwest of Burns.
Meanwhile, Oregon's largest wildfire in more than a century continued to threaten power lines feeding several northern California towns Monday.
The Biscuit fire had burned 376,492 acres by Monday morning. A force of 6,100 firefighters were divided into three separate units battling different areas of the fire.
Formerly called the Florence Fire, the Biscuit fire covers about 460 square miles in the two states. Full containment for the portion of the fire south of the California border was expected by Thursday. The rest of the fire is only about 25 percent contained.
Over the weekend, hand crews created three or four fire lines in front of the advancing flames west of O'Brien, but said they would have to ask Pacific Power to shut down the power lines if the wildfire got too close.
When carbon-rich smoke thickens around the cables, it can cause the electricity from the lines to arc, endangering firefighters. Turning off the power would put the California towns of Gasquet, Hiouchi and Crescent City in the dark, said Leah Rosin, an Oregon Department of Forestry spokeswoman.
Widmark said 15-20 mph east winds, temperature of 100 degrees or higher and single-digit humidity levels were expected to hamper firefighters' ability to contain the Biscuit fire and other fires burning in the state.
The Tiller complex of fires burning east of Roseburg totaled 42,490 acres Monday. That fire was about 35 percent contained, Widmark said. Rolling rocks and snags threatened fire crews because of the steep terrain, he said.
"There are really concerned with the safety of crews on that one," Widmark said.
The Hemlock fire near Oakridge, east of Eugene, had burned 136 acres by Monday; it was 60 percent contained and continued to threaten the communities of Oakridge and Westfir.
There was some damage over the weekend to Bonneville Power Administration power poles in the area, but no interruption in electricity service, Widmark said.
In Curry County, a pre-evacuation notice posted Friday was still in effect. The notice was issued to make sure residents were ready to leave immediately if the fire moved closer to a few dozen homes scattered along river canyons near the ocean in the southwest corner of Oregon.

This is our first news of the day about the largest fire in Oregon in a century.
The fire that will burn until the fall winter rains come as per the Green Jihadists's Wilderness agendas.
The weather may turn against the fire fighters throughout Oregon this week. Weather updates will be posted.

Often these fires that accidental are obviously human caused. We have one down here in the Wine Country of Kali that was caused by a farmer mowing his weeds and grass. The massive fire in the Sequoias was caused by a woman camper.
One of the first things that is done in Ore-Gone up in flames and Kali on the smaller fires is to immediately send one or more of their seasoned fire fighters, who now is a full time fire scene investigator to check on the cause of the fire. These guys are very good and very experienced in finding out the orginal cause of the fire if they can get to it before it becomes massive.
When there are no lightening storms, arson is often very obvious and easy to find when a fire is small. You just go to the start of the fire and check the out side perimeter for signs of use of accelerators or time devices to start the fire. Often both will be used at the same time.
It will be interesting to see if they post why and how human involvement is suspected.

Good morning! I tried to find the article about the people in Florence being upset that the fire was named after the town. Unfortunately, the report has been removed from their website. The report was from KPTV 12 in Portland. In their fire reporting last night they mentioned it again, though. They reiterated that businesses in the area had been hurt because tourists were avoiding the area. That report is also not on their website. That is one strange website! ;o)

Thanks!
This is one of my favorites since Sam Wolf posted it last winter.
I can just see the al Qaeda thugs living in luxury in Portland as welcomed guests of Katz and Kitz. Yes living in luxury with paid housing, food, and health care.
Then, at least once a month the left wing watermelon scum bags who control Portland will loan them a free SUV to drive to various rural places in Oregon to start fires for rural cleansing terrorism.
Of course in Oregon, the al Qaeda thugs/terrorists are minor league terrorists when compared to the ALF/ELF/PETAS/ANARCHISTS and various all American al Qaeda Tree Hugging Green Enviralists living in Portland, Eugene and Ashland.

Monday morning update
376,500 Acres
Another smoky day in paradise says KURY radio.
Forest Service spokesman announced meetings at Winchuck fire hall at noon to discuss burnout operations on south end of fire, and meetings in Agness and Brookings this evening.
Fire activity much the same the last 2 to 3 days. Quail prairie continues to spot, working on line from Packer's cabin to Tolman ranch. Fire suppression foam has been used on some buildings at Tolman ranch. Couple of problem areas on both sides of Biscuit fire.
Anticipates fire will reach 500,000 acres, with burnouts, before control in November.

Terrorists could be burning the state down and turning it into a desert so they will feel at home.

Thanks for trying to find it.
I believe that a lot of this economic data re the direct and indirect economic costs of this fire and other fires to innocent Oregonians will just disappear.
The Watermelon Jihadists in Oregon control the mediots and have too much power/clout to allow the truth to get out be documented re their economic terrorism via the Green Way.
This is why I have asked people to stort certain data on their hard discs, floppies or another server. We have seen some interesting data just disappear. I'm sure that the SS arm of the Green Nazis are monitoring this site. Whenever we post anything that documents the economic costs due to their agendas, the word goes out to remove it.

I'll be back later. Grandkids are up!
See you all later!

This is interesting:
Anticipates fire will reach 500,000 acres, with burnouts, before control in November. This is exactly what I have been predicting. There will be no control of this fire until the fall/winter rains come up.
Most if not all of the Former Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area will have burnt before the fall/winter rains come.
Do you have the acreage of the the Former Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area handy someplace?
That would be a handy little piece of data to have on file.

Mornin Grampa - Another excellent day on the Lake. I hear the Williamson is peaking now too. Was in the shadow of Pelican Butte - sad thing is one would not know it was there for the smoke.
I hope most greenies have respiratory ailments and are suffering.

Thanks, so 180,000 acres would cover its size.
Could you post that link as a new and separate thread. It is just jammed packed with a lot of the reality re the roadless stuff and how the Jimmy Carter administration shoved this down our throats (being polite here) during one of the worst economic times in America? That we can book mark it.
I have all ways felt that Carter was one of the most dangerous presidents we ever had. I have a hard time deciding if he tried to destroy this country as a communist tool or an Opecker tool. Maybe he was both.
Mad fly, farm friend and back hoe, you might want to look at the reference that Granof8 has posted here. A lot of history re the wilderness green jihadist agendas.
