National Park Service Ranger Killed in Shooting Near U.S.-Mexico Border
The Associated Press
TUCSON, Ariz. Aug. 9 A National Park Service ranger was killed Friday in a shootout with suspected smugglers near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.
The ranger was responding, along with the U.S. Border Patrol, to a call for assistance from Mexican authorities who were chasing two men in a vehicle that crossed the border into the Organ Pipe National Monument.
Authorities were still investigating what happened, and it wasn't immediately clear why the men were being chased.
Dale Thompson, chief park ranger at the monument, said the shootout took place about 100 yards north of the border in a rugged stretch of desert known for both drug and people smuggling.
The ranger's identity wasn't released.

You know, a high velocity thinly jacketed hollowpoint, (5.56mm say) doesn't leave enough at the terminal end to do any ballistic comparison. Hard to even tell where it came from, or even the caliber. You never know. Border Patrolmen might keep that in mind, along with one or two such rounds in their pockets.

Sonaron siete balazos, Camelia a Emilio mataba la policía sólo halló una pistola tirada Doesn't take much Spanish to know what this very popular song is about. People worry about rap but these corridas are even more blatant about killing our police and other law enforcement and are extremely popular in the immigrant communities.

I just hope this man's death is not swept under the rug, and, ignored. His killer will be honored in some Mexican ballad and money made off it by some Mexican norteno band. Their politicians are all dirty and so is their army. The Mexican government is getting rich off the illegal drug trade and they aren't about to stop it.

I blame it all on the outlawing of cloning for humans.
If we could clone a couple of million Charley Askins's and Bill Jordans we wouldn't have this problem.

Or many of the very popular narco-corridas you hear in every Mexican neighborhood here in the US. Killing of US law enforcement agents is glorified in their songs and by their most popular Norteno groups.

This nation has no balls. These Mexican drug smugglers should be eating a hail of hot lead and RPGs when they try to bust across our border. Mexico is a nation full of theives. The number of stolen US automobiles taken down there is amazing.

We have plenty of Jordans and Askins, they just need to be given the right (and duty) to shoot back.

If we could clone a couple of million Charley Askins's and Bill Jordans we wouldn't have this problem. How a couple million Pat Buchanans? They can all run for president. One of them is bound to win.

And we can't have the military on the border? BS! The thing about having the military on the border that most don't understand, is that, an area along the border will be put under Martial Law. I don't beg for the area where anyone else lives to be under martial law, why does everyone want the area I live in to be under martial law.

I refuse to vacation down there. They'll get as little money from me as possible. Look for more illegal immigration and border chaos as those stinking maquiladoras shut down and move operations to China
Maquiladoras brought so many Mexicans right to the border. Mexicans from the interior. Now that they are losing those jobs they are positioned even better to invade the USA with their illegal immigration.

Every sane nation on earth has special policies regarding the last few miles of their territory up to the border.
We should join the ranks of sane nations, or just surrender to the invasion.

'act or war' - "overreaction," you say.
Nice of you to protect us here from extreme conjectures, but you underestimate the events IMO.
Not JAII (just another isolated incident); these events are state-sponsored with the known complicity the beligerent state of Mexico openly assisting and promoting such activities to open the border. The drug running alone is assisted by Federales on the Mexican side. The govt collects the bribes too.
Further if you look at Squantos posting #37 - you see signs of national security at stake as well.

If permitted, what about a patriotic working vacation as outlined in post 49?

What a tragic national policy. Sending Smokey the Bear into potentially lethal, international confrontations.
We have no business placing civilian authorities in harms way over international matters.
Exercising our soverinty at our boarders is the responsibility of our military, not our local police.

How a couple million Pat Buchanans... That's how about a couple million Pat Buchanans?
How about two Dwight Eisenhowers? 220 Tom Tancredos? Anyone who sees we have a problem and is willing to fix it.

I don't think Askins or Jordan ever asked for his rights to shoot back.
Some Mexican Bad guy killed a young Border Patrol officer. Askins crossed the border with someone else and attended a cockfight where the suspect was reputed to be. Someone shot out the lights and then the poor unfortunate hero of the Mexican people was somehow ventilated.
Jordan wrote in his book that there was a shootout across the border between the BP on one side and the unknown Mexicans on their side. It lasted all day.
After it was all over, the district BP Captain was screaming at the participants as to why it lasted all day. The officers stated that they were pinned down and couldn't get out.
The Captain yelled at them, "Hell, someone came back four times for more ammo!"

You don't want the area under martial law, but what would you do to get the situation under control? Border patrol guards, already short-staffed are leaving in droves.

Too bad we don't have a president who understands what's happening and would turn them loose.

Number 49 would work, at no cost.
Give each volunteer a military grid map with "his" kilometer of border. Introduce him to his left and right flank buddies, and the local BP. Air tight in a month, no cost.
