Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

"Well, Delta's ready when you are son. And look how much money you'll save. You only have to buy a one way ticket. I vote Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Might not be armpits but I can honestly say I could count on one hand the number of nice folks I've actually met."

Thank you for defending my state. Do I detect a hint of Grizzard in your voice?

Please forgive me my Southern Brother, for I must totally disagree with your choice and comments of people from the "Heartland" states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

Having been reared most of my life in the great state of Georgia, on the outskirts of the metro Atlanta area, I have met many people from all over the country that moved here to capitilize on our job market and low cost of living. Especially in my job life.

The people that I have met from the Illinois, Indiana, Ohio region have been, without exception, stand up-down home people. People that share our love of small towns, high school football, home grown "maters", Cup racing, fishin', baseball,Etc....They just talk a little different.

I was born in CA, spent half my life there. And I know for a fact, it's insane.

Yes, it's insane....don't even think of coming here. I'll stay behind, and hold um off.....Oh, $hit, the tri-tip, I'll smoke that baby too, gotta run......

Well we just figured you all would toss them towards the atomic waste dump, where they'd feel right at home.

"Ohio is wonderful, thank you very much."

Please see my post#562 for a different Southern view on people from Ohio.

And Florida, well, it is obvious what Florida is.

In fact, it was Homer Simpson who pointed that out.

NV now has as many tree huggers as Marin!

Is that why a formerly conservative state became infested with No Nukers, all of a sudden?

I wish the waste-storage site had been located here in Phoenix instead. We have a long-established stable nuclear site, and need the jobs it would bring.

Hey Fruitopia, you and Fagical Mystery Tour don't know anything about Georgia. I think California is getting way more votes on this thread.

LOL!! Well if you gentlemen would both forgive me then. A lot of the folks that are moving into NC seem to be from those 3 states, although NY is running a close 4th. And if one more bagel shop opens I'm going to lose it. What is it with boiled bread?!? The good Lord knows you supposed to FRY the bread to make Krispy Kreme Doughnuts!!

I agree with this. But for me, I'll take Cleveland, Columbus, Nap-Town (Indianapolis), Chi-Town, and Rockford. In other words, I'm an urban Midwestern blueblood.

They just talk a little different.

Ya think? ;-)

But seriously, my jab at billbears was tongue-in-cheek. He's a big-brutha. The vast majority of Southerners here I truly like. I even have a Confederate battle flag on my profile page (not something you'll see alot of with other blacks). I'm living in the South now and dig it (although I've yet to get used to the summers after 9 years). I spent every summer as a kid in Arkansas. North Carolina is by far my most favored Southern state (surfin' on the beach one weekend and skiing the next, all within the same state). The only state, Southern or otherwise, that I don't care for at all is Louisiana. I see now why they call the mosquito their state bird.

And, as a compromise to my Southern bruthas with a lighter hue than mine, I'll keep my son's hip-hop away from you just as long as country is kept away from me.

But fire up some bluegrass and it's all good!

Ain't nothin' wrong with that. I enjoy an Urban enviroment every now and then.

Thanks for your support of Dixie, She sorely needs any she can get.

Your son's rap doesn't bother me at all. I'm kinda partial to Cypress Hill, Biggie Smalls, and Nelly along with 70's randb, jazz and blues. Along with my whitebread love of Southern classic rock and some classical.

My original comment was derived more from the working class aspect, the majority of which make up the populations of our respective regions.

I vote for that smelly area of New Jersey across the river from Philadelphia, which BTW is not much better.

Doesn't Louisana have a really high rate of cancer, possibly linked to the large concentration of chemical industry?

In a meagre defense of California politics, they elected Reagan before the rest of us. They also make the most high tech weapons.

P.S. I've never been to a state where I didn't find something to like....well, except maybe Ohio...no, the 1973 Reds vs. A's world series was fun. So, even Ohio's OK.
