A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

~ ~ FREEDOM'S WORTH IT ! ! ! ~ ~ by LadyX
Those early colonists who established the concept of a land free from England's harsh and restrictive rule surely kept that cry in mind!
From Lexington to Concord - from Trenton to Valley Forge - Charleston to Savannah, and echoing in the halls in Philadephia where the Continental Congress was shaped; men who crafted the birth of a Republic kept the idea foremost in their minds.
More than 200 years later, we still repeat the cry; America a bright and shining star among the nations of the world.
One of our Free Republic members chose that screen name to denote her own beliefs - that a nation dedicated to God and His principles could grow and prosper.
It is with enormous pride that today we present and honor our very own Freedom'sWorthIt !!!
Freedom'sWorthIt
Member since August 7, 1998
Knowing of my long association with Freedom'sWorth it, Billie asked for my help with the lead-in. Nothing could please me more, being privileged to meet in her in person in November 1998. In Charlotte, North Carolina we had a gathering of CAROLINA Freepers, FWI traveling from Raleigh, NC and I from South Carolina to attend.
Our friendship grew and deepened through e-mail and Freep mail, both of us Christian and committed to promoting a conservative America.
She was among those who attended the 1998 March of Justice in Washington, D.C. She is one of THE most compassionate, passionate and well-spoken among our many Freepers. Her expressions on a broad range of subjects are without fail from the heart and beautifully articulated.
It is with pleasure that I add first my own recognition to you, Freedom'sWorthIt!
My thanks to you, LadyX, for being our Guest Writer today; I knew you would do a beautiful tribute, for I've seen the expressive way you have with words. You know that you'll be called upon again!
My thanks to you, FWI, for all that you do and all that you are.....you are truly one of FR's Finest, and I hope you enjoy your day in the !

I found it at the website about Pisgah National Forest (a place in SW NC with lots and lots of these beautiful falls)...and the img says Looking Glass Falls......so I guess that's what it is: check this out:

Val, there are LOTS of falls all over North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Most are located just off the beaten path of the Parkway.
Be sure to locate the main ones on a map and go to see them!

Yes, dear Teacup - member since 1998 of this place called Free Republic! Hasn't it been a hoot?
I actually bought a computer in order to find a way to counter the liberal spin that was part of the Demonazi take over of our country in the early 90's.
Rush kept talking about Compuserve - so I got on with that service - and found Town Hall (which is still there today - funded, I think, by National Review).
Town Hall had a great chat room where people could do major "Bubba Bashing" and Liberal Spin countering - so that gave some relief.
But the real relief came when somebody there clued me into a place run by Jim Robinson called Free Republic!
And you know the rest of that story......a story which is still being written! (and so many here today are among the stars in the story!!!)

COME ON DOWN!

This is another picture of the Mountain Farm Museum. I can't find the picture I took of the cabin there. It was crowded with lots of tourists, and I had to patiently wait for moments when the coast was clear to take the photos. My kids were bored to death as I stopped to take pictures all along the way. I have to go back someday without them and really explore the mountains.

They use to do the same at Middleton Gardens. I would love to come to the mountains though as hear the bagpipes echoing off the distant peaks and through the valleys, aye, it stirs the blood to think of it.

During my high school years, the last two, we lived in Charlotte and it was an annual tradition for the kids at Myers Park to go to Myrtle Beach Mother's Day Weekend. Course those where the days of beach music and shagging in the sand, The Golden Medallions were a NC group that were super. Wonder what ever happened to them?

I know you Fabulous Fresno Freepers carry a sign that has "my name on it" every Friday! How neat is that!
You guys at the Fresno Freeps - countering the Anti-American PAID creeps - are awesome in your dedication and persistance. I bow to your determination and courage!

That it did, Lady X. We are the recipients of a legacy rich in history and folklore. Our ancestors were the Liberty Boys who sat under the Liberty Tree. Hopefully, they are looking down at us and saying "Keep up the good work, children. Remember freedom isn't free, you have to work for it."
Grassroots groups with individuals like Freedom'sWorthit are what is going to keep American going for the simple reason that they love their country and are will to doing all they can for it.
Keep up the good work FWI! Proud of you Sistuh Cuz!!!!!!

I'm seriously considering teaching a small class on digital photography, but a lot of the first lessons would be stuff that applies to all photography - like composition. The picture I took of the old farm equipment would not have looked so good from standing height, so I knelt to take to it.. often that's the best way to get a shot of anything that's resting on the ground. You fill the frame better with the focal point, but be careful to not always center everything. Diagonal lines and off-center shots make for artistic compositons.

My Huguenot ancestors settled around Georgetown.
English ones, too, - George Long was listed in the First Census with a plantation near there.
Another had one (Skinners, on it until my great-grandmother's father died when she was a child) on the land as one of four plantations merged into what is now Brookgreen Gardens, below Murrell's Inlet.
Thomas Smith, of course, had a town home on the water and Medway Plantation where most of the brick to build Charles Town (Charleston) was made.

Beach music and shaggging in the sand!!!!
Oh my those are the memories!
Growing up, my family always went to Crescent Beach, SC for our summer vacations (just North of MB).
Then as a Sr in High School - my girlfriends and I with chaperones of course stayed at a cottage at Cherry Grove Beach! My hubby to be (I didn't know that at the time, of course) was staying at a cottage with guys......
(things were strict back then!)
What a great time we all had! Those were the days......And, my now hubby of over 30 years - still loves beach music the best!!!
To: LadyX
Hey, there, LadyX. I have enjoyed your history lessons re: your ancestors and their legacy in our beautiful South.
My ancestry share some of yours: Scotch Irish, French Hugenots, hearty folk who knew what freedom meant!
To: ValerieUSA
Oh, what a picture THAT one is!
I can 'see' it when it was newly crafted by the farmer - see it in use down the line - now there to 'tell the story.'
Thank you for capturing what it represents, Val.
All you do takes our breath away, and most bring tears....
