NEW YORK, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- As the debate about a U.S. invasion of Iraq continues in Washington, President George W. Bush's administration is quietly getting ready for a fight, Newsweek reports in the current issue. U.S. munitions plants have put on extra shifts to rebuild arsenals depleted during the Afghan war, and a few hundred uniformed personnel are working as advance teams in Jordan and elsewhere, assessing the need for new airstrips, wider roads and the like, Newsweek reports. And even before Saddam Hussein became a priority target, the U.S. Department of Energy was working to get America's strategic petroleum reserve up to its full capacity of 700 million barrels -- enough to meet U.S. energy needs for more than 80 days in a crunch, report National Security Correspondent John Barry and Diplomatic Correspondent Roy Gutman in the August 12 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, August 5).

I believe it related to no "October surprise". I didn't read where August and September were out of bounds.

Methinks late spring '03.

I still think the best thing that could happen is for GWB to order a strike from Crawford- while sitting on horseback with a cowboy hat on. :)

And while we're at it, we should confiscate enough of Saudi Ararbia's oil to pay for 9-11 and subsequent costs related to stomping out the Saudi-originated Wahabbi savages (at least 1 trillion USD). That's a BINGO in my book!

New Moon is August 8. Then Sept 7, Oct 6, Nov 4. New Moon is highly dependent upon location. If I were living in Iceland or London, for example, new moon would be August 7, etc.

And just how many BILLIONS is that going to cost us? Personally, I'd rather spend billions that way rather than cleaning up after a domsetic bio/nuke attack by Iraqi proxies.

I just returned from a week with a group of oil people working in Saudi; they seem to think (their children included....) that the most stupid thing the US can do is attack a ME Country. Of course, they are more concerned with their jobs and millionaire status than the security fo the US - These oil people seem to think that $$ is the answer to everything. A simple "for instance" is that one of our group stole their "flag" and they offered cash, t-shirts, coffee cups, etc. and stated no price was too high... And to think that these people deal with the Arabs and our State Department and they just think $$ as a bottom line. I would not trust an oilman (even one in the WH) with information of an attack or strategic plans.
As for an attack date, watch Israel and when they stomp the Gaza Strip, the Jordanians assist in securing the West Bank.... --> 15-19 Aug!

You are most likely correct when you say nobody has directly contacted anyone at the refineries about when the war will begin. However, I must believe that the people that runs these thing can read, and know that something is going to happen in the near future, and that something is going to require additional refinery capacity.
But then, it is just an opinion.
To: Miss Marple
On the other hand, it could be simple incompetence by the higher ups. Who knows? Not at ExxonMobil - not with a refinery. I would expect that if they were afraid of war - they would either get it done before we went in or delay it. Maybe they were afraid they did not have time to complete it. Don't think they would have a refinery out of commission during any war action.

But I don't think we will attack until the Congress critters give GW the go-ahead and full logistical support is in place, and this could take several more months IMO.

On sept 9 the moon doesn't even rise in baghdad till 5 am,Will be verry dark that night.
To: Jack-A-Roe
New moon is about Sept 4.
To: Jimer
Wouldn't that get them hacked if we made Iraq a US possesion. Then we would have all the oil we need as well as position in the east. Could have merit.

Daschle, Lott, Hastert and Gephardt Lieberman from Conn, former Vice President candidate on a radical party ticket, said today that every day Saddam is in power is a day of danger.
