'Safety bullet' invention aims to prevent accidental shootings



A Florida man claims to have designed a safety bullet which locks up a gun when it's accidentally fired.

Mike Worley says his simple invention takes gun safety to another level.

He came up with the idea after a local boy was shot in his elbow while showing off his dad's .357 Magnum.

The safety bullet can be hidden in the gun chamber and ejected quickly if the owner needs to fire a live bullet.

If the safety bullet is fired, it jams the chamber and locks the gun until the shell is removed with a special tool.

The News Herald reports Mr Worley has applied for a patent for his invention.

He says several companies are interested in his design, and one has started making a prototype.

Mr Worley, from Panama City, says he supports the use of guns and understands why people need a loaded gun as protection.

He said: "I think the safety bullet is a step in the right direction. I don't want fame and fortune. This is a simple device that takes safety to the next level."

Now if someone had the foresight to load Hillary's gun with those bullets, Vince Foster might still be alive and Hillary would be safely behind bars.

I'll tell you what, get the police around the country to agree to use your safety-bullet then we can begin a rational discussion.

BTW, to the best of my research ability it shows that the ratio of accidental shootings by police is greater than the ratio of accidental shooting by citizens.

P.S. There's bunch of lawyers salivating over the unintended consequences of your product.

Mike, throughout this thread I have explained to you over and over why I believe it is not a good idea.

While I mourn terribly for the grandfather and parents you describe ... and would mourn terribly if such a tragedy ever claimed one of my own ... I have told you what I do to prevent it ... education and training ... and what I would do in that event ... take solace from my God.

What I am not willing to do is EVER give my kids or grandkids the idea that a firearm or ammunition can be safe. It is dangerous to concieve of any such notion. I never want them to go down that path because that path ultimately leads to the complete aborgation of firearms rights and to tyranny.

You may not believe so ... you may not think so ... you may not see it. That's fine ... in my opinion you should mix your study of "accidental" shootings (and I believe the percentages and the statistics are tainted and add many things which are not true accidents) with a little more study on tyranny and what our founders established and why with the 2nd amendment ... what their philosophy was. Whether you ever believe it or not will be your affair ... and, as I said, that is fine, it is your right.

But I believe that any path in that direction leads to a fate worse than death and I will not take a step that way.

As Patrick Henry said,

Today I found a sight called www.packing.org check it out they did a survey on safety devices. It said 29 % hid their guns in their closet or drawers. That is the market this is for.

Let me say this and I have said it over and over again. I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT THIS WILL ALLOW KIDS TO PAY WITH YOUR GUN.

I guess you got my ideas mixed up with someone elses. I am also pro safety and for education. Yet if you take the time and read the stories you will find that people are getting shot by accident all over, young ones old ones, educated and not educated. It does not matter who you are or how pro you are hell I'll even bet you know of someone that has been involved in an accidental shooting.

If you don;t care for my invention tell me about yours what are you doing for the pro gun community to make guns safer or do you just sit on the sidelines and complain when someone is trying to do some good.

I will repeat. GUNS ARE NOT SAFE. THEY CANNOT BE MADE SAFE.

To try and do so is the most basic of mistakes when it comes to firearms, their use, their storage and the entire idea behind the 2nd amendment. If you think they can ... then we have the most basic of philosophical differences and we might as well just leave it that.

But, this is what I teach my kids. Education and training along those lines. I do not want them to ever think they are safe. That's what I am doing and now my kids are teaching their kids.

Other than that, aside from my other involvements which are not minimal, I have nothing to prove to you and do not desire to do so. So don't try and draw me into some kind of tinkling contest. Not interested.

The logical extension and conclusion of "making guns safe" will be to lock all of them up sometime, somewhere. I see your "invention" as a step down that path because of what I view as a very basic philosophical error. That error is related in the third paragraph of this post, right after your quote. Use that paragraph and the two following it as my answer to you in the future.

The earrlier quote from the poster above, sums it up succinctly.

I am my gun's safety.

Funny how you ignore the substantive point of my post - that you are insulting and mistreating those to whom you purport to want to sell a product - and focus on one word in my post.

Are you attempting to insult me? Are you dense?

Actually, I think that you are being forced to confront constructive criticisms from individuals with the experience and training to properly evaluate your product, and you are unable to answer these criticisms due to an inadequate supply of either quality, experience or training, on your part. Therefore you respond with insults or just plain nonsensical posts, like your response to mine.

BTW - Your response truly does sound like something an anti-firearm zealot would write. I'm truly beginning to believe that is exactly what you are.

I totally agree with that, Most that use this sight are people that do not have a need for a safety bullet. If your gun is on you why would you need any kind of safety device. You are your safety device. I agree 100% This is for the people that store a loaded gun and have kids and do not use a safety device of any kind. They are out there. These are my target audiance. So pistol I agree with you.

If you've read my replies to you, you would know what my training and experience is. However, you have resorted to insults, innuendo, tangential "reasoning" and just plain obfuscation rather than answer my questions and criticisms of your product.

This is a similar pattern for you on this thread with anyone that has questioned you.

I won't stoop to your level of ignorance, as you have aptly demonstrated for all to see who and what you are, and who and what you are not.

I will also work very hard to discredit your "invention" if, and when, it is ever put on the market. It is dangerous and will get people killed.

I have talked to a few of my friends about your hate and outright hostility towards me and my invention. They told me that there are people that will do anything in their power to discredit others as a simple means of drawing attention to themselves.

Plus, since this is a safety device that will save lives and you are against that. That means you are anti gun and are using this hostility to put down something you haven't even seen yet. That makes you on the other side of what I am about. I am pro gun, pro safety and am doing something that will make our guns safer and save lives.

Another friend stated though it could be that someone like this is just an asshole. I wonder which one is right.

Its called doing your homework. I wanted to find out what their position was on this. What I found was the director owns several guns and is pro safety. He tried steering the conversation into the anti gun direction but I cut him off told him that ain't gonna happen. I found that he is pro safety we will see. Besides I will talk to anyone about this. Its always best to know what the other side is up to. As soon as I can get a few groups to try this and give some feedback on it it will come on the market. The people that have seen it and tried it think its a great idea. We are fine tuning each caliber to get each one to work as effectively as possible and work every single time. Its gotton very expensive but this has to be done. Thanks for the question.

If you've got a problem with my use of the word "asshole," I suggest you take a look at post #795. He used the word first, and many of us have had to endure his insults on this thread.
