A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 8/1/02

Posted on 08/01/2002 6:51:05 PM PDT by rintense

President Bush was granted trade promotion authority today by the Senate, and later thanked them for working so hard on this issue. Bush also met with Jordan's King Abdullah and discussed the war on terror, the crisis in Israel, and future actions against Iraq. Although King Abdullah made it clear that an attack on Iraq could lead to unrest in the entire region, Bush made it clear that he would not change his mind regarding a regime change. On the lighter side, Bush signed the Nursing Reinvestment Act of 2002, which will create federal assistance programs for nursing students as well as support a public service campaign encouraging people to become nurses. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I wish I could say what you have so marvelously said. You've expressed my feelings, too, to the "T."

What do you mean, you Biddy, saying that Dubya is okay??

He's not okay, he's great!

Actually, I meant I think he is okay as far as re-election is concerned.

Since everyone on the Dose and all the ATRWers are holding Eric in prayer, and we all wait for updates on his basic training, I thought you would enjoy this little tidbit I received in my e-mail today:

Mr. and Mrs. Braithwaite Backus,
Bald Buzzard Ridge
Mountainville,
RFD 2

Dear Ma and Pa:

Am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Army beats working for Old Man Minch a mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. ( ! ) but am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things -- no hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. You got to shave, but it is not bad in warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, beef, ham steak, fried eggplant, pie and regular food. But tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit between two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon, when you get fed.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches," which, the Sgt. says, are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it is not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys all get sore feet and we ride back in trucks. The country is nice, but awful flat.

The Sgt. is like a schoolteacher. He nags some. The Capt. is like the school board. Cols. and Gens. just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bull's-eye is near as big as a chipmunk and don't move. And it ain't shooting at you, like the Higsett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. you don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellows get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving son,

Zeb

P.S. Speaking of shooting, enclosed is $200 for barn roof and ma's teeth. The city boys shoot craps, but not very good. - Z.

Just finished praying for Chrissy and sissy as they begin their grand adventure.

Thanks for prayer for Meredith. The thought of her driving from PA to NM is somewhat overwhelming, but she is staff now, and as such should be one of the drivers.

Incidentally, my furniture is lucky to get dusted with a damp rag twice a year, let alone get buffed with Pledge every day. It's one of the many benefits of furnishing one's home with yard sale rejects and slightly-broken furniture that someone else left out on the curb...(don't be mortified, I'm a college student...slovenliness is totally allowed)

Welcome back. You were missed a lot but you had some people do the dose in your absence who were magnificent.

Has anybody heard from lawgirl since she took her exam?

... but I couldn't believe that he would intentionally wear such a bizarre and artificial looking hairpiece, so I just assumed it was really weird natural hair.

He was never asked to do commercials for the company that made them! He must have had several; his hair did look different at times. I thought it was real, too.

A FReeper once captioned a pic, "Excuse me Mr. Trafficant, but isn't that a shrimp cocktail in your hair?"

Our president doesn't do double-speak. I'm glad he doesn't call the Arab terrorists in Israel 'freedom-fighters' as do the nitwit socialists/Leftists/liberals!

I know that he's "great" as well. I just take it personally when the liberals, far-right wackos, and psuedo-conservative libertarians baselessly and viciously attack him. I have worked so hard for him for so long that I truly consider him a member of my family -- and nobody messes with my family!!

Fortunately, as I mentioned in my previous post, the President keeps things in perspective (even when I can't). He knows what's truly important -- faith, family and friends. Politics does not rule his life!!

Absolutely great news. It's obvious Eric is a leader and I will continue to pray for him as he makes you, and all of us proud of him.

OWF, In three weeks... The boy you watched get on that bus, headed for boot camp, will come home a man. He will go far because of the fine upbringing you and Mr. OWF provided for him.

God Bless the OWF family

The bashers around here are pathetic people, with nothing to contribute to the world but misery and grief. I almost feel sorry for them.......but not quite.

We got our Rising Tide magazine today, and there was a letter in it from a 4th grade boy that simply and eloquently said what I think we all feel. Out of the mouths of babes.......

My hero is George Walker Bush. He is a very great president. Making speeches all the time. He kow how to make this country a better place. Just about everyone likes him. He even likes children. How can you go wrong with a President like him? He's great! I wish everyone would like him. Christopher....

I think Dubya is telling him: "Life's tough all over. You still gotta decide whether you are for us or against us."
