[history]
The "wascally wabbit," who's faced down Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian and Yosemite Sam, has come out on top again: According to the latest issue of TV Guide, Bugs Bunny is the greatest cartoon character of all time.
Bugs is also the only character from the pre-television animated-short golden age to make the magazine's top 10.

IMHO Looney Toons are the greatest cartoons EVER!
This NWO environazi crap that passes for children's entertainment these days bites the big one. Damned libersls want to steal your children's childhood and turn them into brainwashed little drones.
Now the 'adult' cartoons like The Simpsons, Southpark, Beavis & Butthead (yeah, B&B), King of The Hill (that one is painful to watch because they are all soooo dysfunctional) and Futurama aren't bad.
Don't know about the Japanese anime stuff, it never interested me.
Meeep!!! Meeep!!!

Good call.
In ten years, most of the recent cartoon characters who are on this list will have been long forgotten.
Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, and Snoopy will still be listed among the greats.

My favorite Bugs Bunny cartoon ever:
(Bugs leads the boys to a hay baler machine. He opens a door in the machine for them to enter.)
BUGS:
(Singing.) Open up the door and step right in,
Close the door and into a spin.
Whirl, whirl, twist and twirl,
(Bugs throws a switch, turning on the baler.)
BUGS:
(Singing.) Jump all around like a flyin' squirrel.
Now don't you cuss and don't you swear,
Just come right out and form a square.

Bugs is tops on my list.
I don't remember him being cruel and heartless, like other cartoon characters.
He would stand up for himself and the underdog, but he used his wits.
I like him.

Except that ever single cartoon character on this list was invented in order to generate income for the "artist". And, you think Charlie Brown is somehow less noble than Beavis and Butthead in this regard?

And in all seriousness, Cartman should have been #1.That would seriously reflect very poorly on our culture.

I looked at the list yesterday, and wondered where she was too.
TV Guide is too commercially smarmy for me now. Like the 50 worse shows. That contrived list was made to generate
publicity from controversy. So's this list, but I think except for certain omissions, the list of characters is too broad to stir things up.

Here is my list:
Classics: The Coyote, Mighty Mouse, Buggs, Foghorn, Daffy
New Age: Homer Simpson, Eric Cartman (for that matter all of the little kids from South Park, they are all smarter and more conservative than their stupid hippy parents), Chief Wigam, Mr. Burns, Chef from South Park, Hank Hill, Baumhauser.

Speaking of PC, my 10-year-old just bought an old Andy Capp book. Now that guy is definitely anything but PC. I haven't read Andy Capp in a while, but I know I lost interest. But these old comics are really funny. Like a lot of comic strips, the old pre-PC comics lost something in the PC era.

I can't believe how low Mighty Mouse is on the list. Must have been compiled by a bunch of 20-somethings. Also, I was shocked that Tom and Jerry came out #50. They have a universal appeal, I can tell you after living in China and Singapore.

Guess they didn't ask many Baby Boomers to contribute to this. I just wouldn't put anything from Rugrats, the Simpsons, South Park, or this Square Sponge whoever on a top 20 list myself.

And, you think Charlie Brown is somehow less noble than Beavis and Butthead in this regard? Not at all. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with making money - I object to the Olympian scale of Schulz's efforts, but that may be a result of the fact that I always found Peanuts to be terminally unfunny, unlike B&B.
Come on, say it with me - "'It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' is brought to you by Dolly Madison..." ;)

I seem to recall that Bugs Bunny had an affinity for cross dressing in a good number of his cartoons. He also liked to slather on the lipstick.

And "Beavis and Butthead" would never make a top 50 list of mine. Where the heck is Dick Tracy?
