So true. I must say that the GOP HAS been reaching out to Hispanic voters.

They are starting in Florida with the first half-hour political show in Spanish. The name is something like "Building Bridges," in Spanish.

Ah, it is "Abriendo Caminos," that is the name of the show.

This is a complicated issue and in truth the Democrats have the advantage. Mainly because they LIE and practice propoganda on such a high scale that even the truth sometimes gets blocked out.

I just thought of something... How can intelligent people follow a party that trys to obfuscate EVERYTHING and deliberately lies. They in effect, practice Brainwashing.

To those that think I am overeacting, say you are a Republican in Massachusetts and see what happens.

So, the Dems are exposing these immigrants to blatant LIES. Like, the GOP HATES you and we will make you safe. It is pure drivel but you know the rest, repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth.

To sum up, the GOP IS reaching out but it is difficult to argue with dogma. We are making inroads and when the Socially COnservative Hispanics SEE it is who they are supporting, they will lose. Look at Miami... and look at the way liberals HATE AMERICAN CUBANS, that should say something right there.

Thanks for the advice and I am sure your post will generate some useful debate.

And both do so for valid social and family reasons, not to just be out-reach. Republicans that speak spanish can use it but we need to give the message and not the medium.

Looks like you have highlighted a major problem Demographics are shifting, and the Republican Party isn't making the adjustment. At least many of them aren't. They don't even like Pres Bush talking to Pres Fox.

The moving hand has written on the wall. What can it mean?

I'm not defeatist, but the time to have done something about immigration was in the 70s or 80s. Now we will have to deal with immigration from Mexico for the duration. If Mexico gets their act together economically, then maybe some will go back. Outside of that, get ready for Dem rule. Unless some sort of miracle comes along, the Dems will take control and GOP victories will be few and far between. Teach Hispanics English, or form race-specific outreaches for Hispanics? That is supposed to be the solution? Afraid not, Wally; we chose badly in the 70s/80s. Now we must pay the piper.....

Gee, since 1994, the percentage of Hispanics who vote Republican has dropped big.

Doesn't that seem to coincide with the ham-handed campaign in support of Prop 187?

Thanks for that data, KC Burke. Very interesting, to say the least...

What can it mean?

It means that the United States will soon become a socialist nation.

Why just Spanish?  French people come here too.  How about making this a trilinqual nation?  German people come here too.  How about making this a quartralinqual nation?  Hey folks come here from all over the world, why not make this a nation that adopts over 167 different languages, the ones now dealt with by just the Los Angeles Unified School district?  Of course that's limiting ourselves, so I should probably be ashamed of myself right?

First it was, "Oh it's only a few thousand per year."  Then it was, "Oh it's only a few hundred thousand per year."  Now it's only a million a year.  Pretty soon it'll be only a few million a year.  So far those of us who have tried to address this issue every step of the way have been trashed constantly, called the worst names people could think of.  While we warned that our nation would be overrun, folks just laughed.

Now that we have been overrun those same folks come back to demand that our nation adopt the concquering hoard's language.  Didn't you and your ill spend the last ten years telling us that our nation wasn't going to change?  Didn't you tell us this was not different than the Irish or the Italians or the Germans that come before them.  When did we change the language to French, German, Italian?  Well then, I guess this is different isn't it.

Didn't you call us racists and Hitler?  Didn't you state that this nation would not lose it's language, it's customs and it's traditional identity?  As radio stations across the dial go spanish, city after city changes it's charter to become bilingual, explain to me how things are not changing.  When Cinco De Mayo parades are celebrated across our land under the Mexian flag, please remind me how things have not changed.

Two thirds of all children in the LAUSD are of Mexican extraction.  Fully one third of them were born to illegal alien parents.  90% of all births in Los Angeles county operated hospitals are births to illegal aliens.

You can take your suggestions and place them where the sun don't shine.  This is where your prior suggestions got us.  Damn you!

The great "Conservative" excuse makers turn a blind eye to our culture and the southern border.

Thanks, but no thanks..

(PS: spanish sounds like two cats fighting in a trash can, imo.)

It means that the United States will soon become a socialist nation.

The thing is, . . . it doesn't have to be that way. The newcomers come from socialist environments and that doesn't mean they liked it back there. Most of them are conservative, god-fearing people, too. Seems like they ought to be natural Republicans, and would be if they were accepted as such.

According to who you ask, you will find that 30-40% of Latino voters voted for Prop. 187.

The Prop. 187 didn't become explicitly anti-Latino until two years later, when Republican Dan Lungren tried to engratiate himself with Latinos by pointing out his opposition to 187.

It failed miserably, as he lost badly to Gray-out Davis, but he did manage to destroy the California Republican Party in the process.

Dan Lungren is perhaps the stupidest man in the Republican Party, and we are still paying the price for his stupidity.

Economics trumps social issues; importation of millions of impoverished immigrants ensures a socialist future for this nation.

Oh yeah, the Republicans made a big mistake supporting prop 187. That's why if Bill Simon ran on the platform of cutting off support for illegal aliens he would most likely win in a landslide in California just like Wilson did. Instead he's probably going down to a Lungren style defeat.

Pandering to illegals is not a winner in this country for conservative voters.

sit there until your home and property are flooded and you lose everything. Or, two, you can build a houseboat

Your argument holds no water.

This lame defense of Republican foolishness regarding illegal immigration reminds me of the similar insane argument made about China's Rise Is Inevitable -- So Deal With It - a false economic argument meant to override law, morality, security and other priorities.

Same problem in Republican thinking with illegal Mexicans.

So, we have here the futility of a 'flood' analogy. On the one hand water is hard to stop once moving. People on the other hand may be more alikened to herds. Deport a few at the head of the line of illegals and the rest will change their direction. Herds turn around. It is not inevitable that they flood.

Just try it first. Enforce existing laws.

No water.

And no watering holes in the desert either. Turn the law breakers back.

There's the new and improved, all inclusive, multi lingual ballot..

I mean, we tried it with spanish only, but then the precedent that set drove others to demand "fair" play..

PS: You should see what the street signs look like.

Note the decline in the Republican percentage of the vote after the 1986 amnesty:

Bush ----- '92 == 38%
Dole ----- '96 == 28%
GW Bush - '00 == 33%

I agree totally. The problem is, we did a LOT of damage to our chances of reaching out to them due to the ham-handed way we tried to solve the problem of illegal immigration via Proposition 187.

The fact is, had Prop 187 instead been focused on greatly increasing sanctions for those who hired illegal aliens in California, I think we'd have fared a LOT better, IMHO.

Excellent post. It's a critical problem, especially here in California. Rumor has it the Party is erious about winning over Hispanics this year. I will be waiting to see.

All we have to do is carefully CRAFT our message, not adopt the Democrat message, to win them over.

But try convinving some on FR of that...

Your casual attitude towards lawbreaking disgusts me. Would you give similar advice to a woman being raped? "Sit back and enjoy it honey, and try not to offend the rapist by pointing out he's breaking the law"
