This is one of few warning calls youre going to get on this issue. The Republican party; local, state and national is simply going to have to change its mode of operation in regard to the hispanic population. Hispanic conservatives and bilingual Americans (white, black, etc.) have been trying to get the party to understand the ramifications of the coming demographic changes. However, those who have been trying are running into a wall of bigotry.
The individuals who speak Spanish, be they hispanic, white, black, etc. and share the same conservative, less-government, lower-taxes, work-for-what-you-get philosophy are frustrated by party regulars--who will not do what has to be done to prevent a PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional) style takeover of government by the Democrat party. It is imperative that young people learn Spanish to maintain some semblance of economic and political control. Oh, but say so and the hateful comments begin. Again, quite often, even REPUBLICANS become critical at what they perceive as a pro-hispanic agenda. What is the problem with persuading hispanics who speak Spanish to think differently about their values and economic philosophy?
What is wrong with getting young people who speak only English to learn Spanish in order to reach this huge, developing constituency? Other demographic groups are NEVER going to match the birthrate of the hispanic population nor match the numbers of illegal immigrants continuing to come into the country. Screaming and hollering about lawbreakers, etc. is fruitless because the Federal government will do very little to stem the flow. The rhetoric of hatred and bigotry is only going to drive this group into the arms of the Democrat party. Then, not only will the conservative agenda be lost forever, the country in large part will essentially be run by a group with whom we can not identify nor communicate.
It is time for the Republican party and conservatives in general to clearly teach the hispanic population that the politics of the Democrat party will return them to the socialistic/tyrannical types of governments they are presently fleeing. If this effort does not succeed, then our form of government will be lost. Not too long ago I reached out to Free Republic members trying to find work in the private sector hopefully with a conservative boss who would allow me to work actively on the side (without retribution) for conservative causes. Quite a few posts in response were rather bigoted. The present situation is analagous to a river having been dammed and rising to flood ones land.
You have two choices. One, you can sit there until your home and property are flooded and you lose everything. Or, two, you can build a houseboat and float on the water and make your living from it. You can charge for rides, fishing trips, let it lift you, pee in it even but it supports you. The former is a losing proposition, the latter salvation. Hatred will not solve anything. Some feel they can threaten and make the problem go away. The Federal government is not going to let anyone harass or drive out this segment of the population. I know someone who used to work for the Social Security Administration. This individual told me that the agency basically is content with the massive amounts of money being paid into the SSA by illegals whose names and numbers do not match knowing those individuals will not be able to file for benefits (ever) and the money can be spent as the agency sees fit. Why kill your cash cow? What about other agencies?. Perhaps this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Okay, its on the table. Maybe someone somewhere will see the necessity for action. Now before its too late.

It is people like you that prevent us from clamping down on immigration.
As for your idea that outreach would help, I disagree. Immigrants from non-Communist countries are natural Democrats. They are poor and are not part of the general culture and traditions of this country. Moreover, Latinos were taught to resent the Us in their native countries, giving even more fodder to the leftist demagogues in the US.
The best way to get Hispanic votes is to promote assimilation. To do so, we need to reduce teh flow of immigrants, make learning english mandatory, end state subsidies for racial speratist program, and promote assimilation programs.
Anything short of this, as we can kiss this country good bye within 2 generations.
Statistics I have seen in the past indicate that quite a few of them do vote Republican. I welcome that as long as they vote for conservative Republicans.
Exactly. And, when concepts are explained to them, they generally see the need to stay away from the Democrat party. However, getting Republicans in general to see this is the hard part. Lots of invective and hatred. Apalling.
You have validated what I had to say. I have been a lifelong Republican, have spoken up for conservative causes, have lost jobs because of same. And, you have the audacity and gall to respond to me like this? The very attitude illustrated by your post and others like it will be your own undoing. I merely proposed to teach this group to think differently...at least try. And, you respond with aggression toward someone of your own party stating an opinion with which you don't agree? How foolish.
Try posting an intellectual rebuttal to the statement instead of the way you have chosen to respond. I am not going to lower myself to discussion at your level.
Though you'd think this group would be offended to have that message communicated in other than English.
Mientras aprendiendo español es bueno, it should not be seen as a means toward some status quo in the United States.
¿How many votes are we talking about? |
|
Most certainly do. Have always advocated that here and elsewhere. However, it is NOT being done. They have children at an incredible rate. Why not try to reach them and help at least their children be productive citizens in society? If you write off the whole group, the vote will bite you in the butt later.
It is my experience that if you take the ten conservative principles (see my home page) and ask the average mexican immigrant if those sound right to him, he will say he likes them.
