I've been meaning to join the HSLDA for years. I don't need them at this point, but you inspired me to join anyway. Maybe my money will help some of the other home schoolers out there.

As an HSLDA member, I thank you very much.
Our country is being invaded and conqured without a shot being fired.

It never ceases to fail. EVERY time I read a thread involving the UN my blood boils and I feel a squeezing pain in my chest.
Unfortunately my senator is Bell Nelson, Democrat. So I expect him to vote for it. Damn it.

CEDAW represents an astounding transfer of influence over a nation's domestic policy to the United Nations. It is a direct threat to those Americans who respect the traditional family and American way of life. CEDAW is administered by a 23-member committee of experts at the UN. Given the broad language of the treaty to eliminate "stereotypes" and "traditional roles of women," it is conceivable that the freedom of home schoolers could be in jeopardy. Let me illustrate why we are so concerned. In 1999, the CEDAW Committee recommended the decriminalization of prostitution in China. It has expressed concern that Belarus celebrates Mother's Day, and lectured Armenia on the need to "combat the traditional stereotype of women in the noble role of mother." The Committee has stated that too many Slovenian mothers were staying home to raise their children. It has urged the nation of Andorra to order a review of textbooks concerning sex education used by the Catholic schools, given that a majority of young women attend Catholic schools in that country.
Although I visit their sites often, I haven't joined HSLDA or the THSC (Texas) primarily because I live in Texas, which is very homeschool friendly. I am reconsidering that.

I don't think this will pass, but I'll call anyway and let my voice be heard. I own a house in Texas but live in Florida, so 4 Senators get to listen to me. LOL
These people in the Senate drive me crazy.

They just can't stand the thought of a state tax-paying asset bowing out of their system to stay home and raise kids.
'Go to work so you can pay taxes. Let us raise your chilluns to be the next generation of slaves'

I can hear it now. Anyone opposed to this is "against the rights of women".

I used to consider "Get US Out of the U.N." types to be fringe kooks.
Now, I want US out as well. How I wish we could just leave those people to stew in their own juices. Maybe now that Switzerland has joined, we can duck out and leave them to foot the bills themselves.
I don't care if they want to continue to "squat" on that land we gave them in Manhattan, just leave us out of it from now on.

The really pathetic part is that this is likely to continue. We will be completely occupied and the sheeple won't even notice or care.

These people in their "anti-discrimination" crusade discriminate against women who choose to stay home, who choose to be mothers, and against the children who choose to honor those mothers. In their effort to "help the oppressed" they have obviously overlooked the fact that women actually choose- happily- to be stay at home wives and mothers. In the process they don't help at all but instead harm horribly and terribly.
I love my job. It is the most wonderful, satisfying, fulfilling thing I have ever done in my life. It wasn't until I became a stay-at-home wife/mother that I really thought I was doing something important- something that mattered- something that changed the world (of at least the husband and three children currently in my charge.)There aren't many jobs outside the home that do that, being a drone in an office, a factory or a store doesn't cahnge the world- of anyone.
If the UN really cared about the plight of women instead of being againt, motherhood and femininty they would support it and encourage change that would make it possible for more women to stay home and take care of their own children. They could start by encouraging a lowering of the tax burden that at least our nation faces.
But of course that wouldn't fit their agenda of making a socialist hell out of the whole world.

Thanks for the ping. I don't trust the United Nations, and these resolutions like CEDAW are frightening, in my opinion.
But, I won't be joining the HSLDA. I realize it is a very reliable organization for other homeschoolers, but their literature makes it clear that they are not interested in secular homeschoolers, and other secular HSers have told me that HSLDA requires a certain curriculum and that they can refuse to defend you if you don't use that curriculum. Christian homeschoolers we have met recommended HSLDA to us, but we opted not to join after we received their literature. I'm sure it's great for others, though, and I do applaud most of their efforts.
