We have two cases of little girls being killed in the last week but before going off the deep end, why not look at what happened.

One 5 year old is playing in front of a condo with a playmate -- no adults around; the second one is in a house where they allowed a homeless man to sleep on the couch.

Two perfectly innocent little girls were killed by perverts because adults first couldn't take the time to go outside when their little girls were playing in front of a condo and in the second case they let a homeless man in a house.

Where is the adult responsibility in both cases? I would never have allowed any my three children play in the front yard without supervision at 5 years of age -- that is why we paid for a fence on our 1/2 acre when we lived in SoCal, and we lived in a quiet foothills town. Secondly, if I were staying in someone's house and they allowed a homeless man or someone I didn't know to sleep there, I would have left with my daughter.

I'm really sorry that these two little girls had to die because they were perfectly innocent, but isn't it time that parents who have children start putting their children's safety first and in both instances that did not happen?

As for the men that killed them, they should be put to death immediately so they cannot get out on some technicality by some defense lawyer and a liberal CA judge!

Go ahead and flame but I think if more parents paid attention to their children, then things like this may not happen so often! My two cents!

In all fairness, the "homeless man" was the mother's friend's brother. He was a transient, which I guess means he mooched off his friends and relatives. It's not like they found him picking through garbage cans and invited him home.

There is a "vanishing point" beyond which a parent has surrenders control of the safety of their child to fate.

Hooray! You hit the nail on the head. It's the parents who are the front line of protection. Five year old girls unsupervised, in a driveway and public street? A six year old girl with a male transient? What did they expect?

I'm hoping it's a misstatement, but the article says the six year old girl "decided" for herself where she was going to stay. Sorry Mom and Dad are fighting, but that does not give them the right to put this important decision-making in the hands of their child.

Sadder here at FR is the demonization of the Mom across the street, when it was Dad that exposed this child to the monster.

There is ABSOLUTELY no comparison to be made in these two situations.

One 5 year old is playing in front of a condo with a playmate -- no adults around; the second one is in a house where they allowed a homeless man to sleep on the couch. . . Where is the adult responsibility in both cases?

No flame intended, but I'll offer you this:

I can't tell you how many times, as a kid, I went off to play with my friends in the summer and was gone all day. I grant you it was usually in someone's back yard, but rarely was there non-stop adult supervision throughout the day. Parents were home, but they were in and out.

O. K. That was forty-some years ago. And that was then and this is now. But even when my own kids were small, it was impossible for my wife and I to be with them every single minute.

Pointing to lack of adult supervision is a straw man in this case. Point to the perverts who did this. Point to the culture that produced them. Point to the everything's-relative, anything-goes, Pop-psych, I'm-O.K., You're-O.K. kind of liberalism that keeps rubber-stamping this kind of thng. And above all, point to the kind, tolerant, compassionate liberal judicial activists who embark on social engineering from the Bench who keep letting these bastards loose over and over and over again.

Again, no flame intended. Just my two cents.

Secondly, if I were staying in someone's house and they allowed a homeless man or someone I didn't know to sleep there, I would have left with my daughter.

No argument there. It makes you wonder just what these parents were thinking given the times in which we live.

For their child to get snatched off the street is bad enough. For them to invite a potential murderer into their home -- a stranger no less -- I just don't know. . .

As for the men that killed them, they should be put to death immediately so they cannot get out on some technicality by some defense lawyer and a liberal CA judge!

Roger that. Never happen though. Already we're hearing (at least in the California case) that evidence was planted by racist white cops who are out to get the innocent oppressed person of color, and how this is really a vendetta against Hispanics. I'm surprised it took them that long.

If the Samantha Runion killer gets any jail time at all, you can bet it will be overturned on appeal, or life imprisonment is really legalese for time served plus six months. He'll be on the street some enough. Count on it.

I agree parents or gaurdians are at fault in some cases, especially today, no way i would leave my daughter alone with the bum on the couch. Samantha's case was especially bad because they had the creep and let him go, Van Dam different matter, as well as the Smart case , Pratt case and the 2 girls in Oregon. But we as a society have to say we will NOT TOLERATE this behavior. I agree with another poster..first time offense...jail them for life...I for one do not believe that pedophilia is curable. If they kill on any offense they should be killed. But a message has to be sent...I refuse to watch this happen with casual concern.
Ans I also disagree with another post that says the federal govt should not be involved. A LAW regarding ZERO TOLERANCE for child sexual predators needs to be passed.
