A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Is your photo in the FReeper Photo Album?   Have you all SEEN the Freeper Photo Album?   Do you realize how much time it took for someone to put that together? And did you know that the someone who PUT it together  (actually put it together more than once,  but that is another story!)  is THIS  FReeper:    LBGA ,   Freeper since 4-23-00.  LBGA proudly flies the State Flag of Georgia on her profile page, along with about 250 others!

LBGA was one of the FReepers who traveled to DC for the Inagural Ball;   she is an artist and has been an important part of the Guild, (this thread was particularly entertaining as LBGA had gone to Florida on a business trip and got to spend some time with BigWaveBetty,  another of the Guild stalwarts;  unfortunately,  the photos at the pool are no longer available,  darn it!),  as well as the USO Canteen,  where she created a warm,  inviting cyber room,  complete with the two mascots,  Beamer and Morgan,  relaxing in front of a cozy fire.  You can see that room,  with all the little FR details,  displayed on Snow Bunny's profile page. Snow Bunny is the Hostess of the USO Canteen.

Hi. Just came back from our county fair. It is very quaint. We are in a small rural Ohio county, VERY conservative, so working the Republican booth is fun. The fair here is very much focused on 4-H activities. It's adorable when, especially the wee little ones, show their cattle, goats, sheep and swine (pigs for you city folks) (who do NOT cooperate and usually drag them around the ring)

What I hate to watch is the auction, local business leaders and businesses always join in to buy the animals which are then headed for slaughter. (and then usually donate the meat to local soup kitchens and food pantrys)Many of the kids do this year after year and have an excellent start at their college education.

The reason it bugs me is afterwards watching the animals being carted off to slaughter. I imagine a bonding relationship with their owner and think of my babies (Gizmo and Codee). That being said, my favorite place to eat there is that Cattleman's Association stand which makes a mean rideye sandwich!LOL No I'm not a treehugging PETA type...just go through moments of sentimentality. Having some overgrown evergreens cut out this week and am going through the same sad emotions (except for the damn tree that harboured the poison oak!

Oh yes... Sean Hannity is one of my favorite people. He is so right on (most of the time), and I was really upset when he left the Atlanta radio station.

You remember the pic I posted when I took Teale with me to NYC when I agreed to work with a client on a Saturday. We sat in on Hannity & Colmes, right between 2 cameramen. That was better than ANY Broadway show, and an experience I'll never forget. :-)

Are we a bit conflicted? LOL! So am I! I understand exactly what you are saying. I feel the same way. Our County Fair sounds exactly like yours. I love to watch the kids show their animals, especially the cows, it's my favorite part of the fair, but I know how hard it is for them to put them up for auction. I keep telling myself, if they are going into the business of raising livestock they have to learn not to become attached to the animals. I couldn't do it, however. It would be so hard to watch as my animal was taken off to slaughter.

The Deck Of Cards

During the North African campaign, a bunch of soldier boys had
been on a long hike and they arrived in a little town called Casino.
The next morning being Sunday, several of the boys went to Church.
A sergeant commanded the boys in Church and after the Chaplain had
read the prayer, the text was taken up next. Those of the boys who
had a prayer book took them out, but this one boy had only a
deck of cards, and so he spread them out.

The Sergeant saw the cards and said,
"Soldier, put away those cards."

After the services was over, the soldier was taken prisoner
and brought before the Provost Marshall. The Marshall said,
"Sergeant, why have you brought this man here?"

"For playing cards in church, Sir."
"And what have you to say for yourself, son?"

"Much, Sir," replied the soldier.

The Marshall said, "I hope so, for if not I shall punish you more
than any man was ever punished."

The soldier said, "Sir, I have been on the march for about six days.

" I have neither a Bible nor a prayer book, but I hope to satisfy you,
Sir, with the purity of my intentions." And with that, the boy
started his story: "You see Sir, when I look at the Ace, it reminds me
that there is but one God. And the Deuce reminds me that the Bible

is divided into two parts, the Old and the New Testaments. When I see
the Trey, I think of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
And when I see the Four, I think of the four Evangelists who
preached the Gospel; there was Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

"And when I see the Five, it reminds me of the five wise virgins who
trimmed their lamps; there were ten of them: five were wise and were
saved, five were foolish and were shut out. When I see the Six,
it reminds me that in six days, God made this great heaven and earth.

"When I see the Seven, it reminds me that on
the seventh day, God rested from His great work. And when I see
the Eight, I think of the eight righteous persons God saved when
He destroyed this earth; there was Noah, his wife, their sons and their wives.

And when I see the Nine, I think of the lepers
our Savior cleansed, and nine out of the ten didn't even thank Him.
When I see the Ten, I think of the Ten Commandments God
handed down to Moses on a table of stone.

When I see the King, it reminds me that there is but one King of Heaven,
God Almighty.
And when I see the Queen, I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
who is Queen of Heaven. And the Jack or Knave is the Devil.

When I count the number of spots on a deck of cards,
I find 365, the number of days in a year. There are 52 cards,
the number of weeks in a year. There are 4 suits, the number of
weeks in a month. There are 12 picture cards, the number of months in
a year. There are 13 tricks, the number of weeks in a quarter.

"So you see, Sir, my pack of cards serves me as a Bible,
an Almanac and a Prayer Book."

I believe it was you who wow'd them with all your technical talk and they didn't much care what I had to say after they learned I barely knew how to turn on the computer. And that bathing beauty thing... no more margaritas in the middle of the day for me! Please, please, toss those pic's in case I want to run for office someday.

Billie, LBGA is such a great lady. She's so smart and funny, we talked like we were old friends all day that I didn't want the day to end. We also met for dinner and I brought my daughter. A great time was had by all!

The CEO of Tyson Foods manages to arrange a meeting
with the Pope at the
Vatican. After receiving the papal blessing, he
whispers, "Your
eminence,
we have an offer for you. Tyson Foods is prepared to
donate $100 million
dollars to the church if you change the Lord's Prayer
from 'give us this day
our daily bread to 'give us this day our daily
chicken.'

The Pope responds, "That is impossible. The Prayer is
the word of the
Lord -
it must not be changed."

"Well," says the Tyson man, "we anticipated your
reluctance. For this
reason, we will increase our offer to $300 million
dollars. All we require
is that you change the Lord's Prayer from 'give us
this day our daily bread'
to 'give us this day our daily chicken.' Again,
the Pope replies,
"That,
my son, is impossible. For the prayer is the word of

Finally, the Tyson guy says, "Your Holiness, we at
Tyson Foods respect your
adherence to your faith, but we do have one final
offer. We will donate
$500
million dollars - that's half a billion dollars - to
the great Catholic
Church if you would only change the Lord's Prayer from
'give us this day our
daily bread' to 'give us this day our daily chicken.'
Please consider it."
And he leaves.

The next day the Pope convenes the College of
Cardinals. "There is some
good
news," he announces, "and some bad news."

"The good news is that the Church has come into $500
million dollars."

"And the bad news, your eminence?" asks a Cardinal.

"We're losing the Wonderbread account."

Glad I'm not the only one regarding the cows. The first place we lived when we got married and were struggling college students was in the middle of a farm. Our neighbor farmers offered us a quarter beef very cheap and we accepted.

A week later I was working in the yard and they drove by with this beautiful cow in a trailor who looked at me with these great big brown eyes. I kind of smiled and said hi...not realizing

I got the call from the processor a few hours later asking how I wanted my quarter cut.... sigh... But yes....I sucked it in...and enjoyed the steaks as I still do today....

Mr. D. and I also LOVE to fish and will keep what we will eat but release the rest BUT ALWAYS release large and smallmouth bass over 4 lbs. We figure they lived that long...they deserve to keep on truckin'!

I remember when SB asked for a prayer for someone unknown at the Canteen one day and I said one. I'm so sorry to hear that it was you having health problems. I know how hard it is to talk about a female health problem.

I believe I've met you through freep-mail but somehow missed replying to you at the Canteen although I do remember seeing you there.
