ITHACA -- In most places, youngsters spend their summers camping, or at the mountains or the beach. In Ithaca, they learn how to become social activists.

Sixteen young people, ages 12 to 21, turned up at the Greater Ithaca Activities Center Tuesday night for the third in a series of Youth Action Workshops, "Social Change through the Arts," sponsored by Cornell University's Center for Religion, Ethics and Social Policy.

I'm not sure I trust this "King Nothing."

When I was a kid I saw an episode of the 'Gong Show' that featured a song called "the King of Nothing" performed by, you guessed it, PUPPETS.

Paideia is an artsy-fartsy private school for the children of elitist liberals.

King Nothing is a Metallica song. A kick ass one at that. So he is OK.

I don't know.

MacFarlane toys made some Metallica action figures a few years back.

Action figures aren't that far off from...puppets.

Using the concepts they'd brainstormed at the beginning of the workshop, they decided to build trees to represent nature and vegetables to represent food. They will dance, perhaps, or drum, and sing.

After reading the posts and checking out the pictures, it seems to me that a healthier activity for these anemic looking wasteoids would be to go outside to chop some firewood for next winter and weed the freakin' garden if they like vegetables so much. Only God can 'build' a tree, morons!!

Action Figures are cool man. Are you saying GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip is almost as evil as a puppet?

I found that picture on a web site that should be a festival of puppetdom. I can only conclude that the person is confused about the purpose of the demonstration.

Sounds like a reasonable conclusion to me. I imagine if he really wanted to free the puppets, he'd be a little more subtle about it.

My first choice for the freeper name was Creeping Death, but it was taken, and the next Met song that would work as a screenname was "King Nothing" so i went for it. I probably could have done better, like Of Wolf and Freeper, or The thing that should not be, fight fire with freeper...lol.. there are so many possibilities.

The major benefits I see are the experience and inspiration for my creative interests: drawing, painting, photography and folk dance."

Gee, things sure have changed since I attended.....I was mostly interested in acquiring skills to earn large sums of money.....and meeting the opposite sex.....guess that makes me a 'corporate whore'.....

Yep, you're right. Just like a manure wagon, spreading IT all over the road to its destination.

The women I knew "in the day" who spouted this poop were either TrustFund Babies(tm) or the products of broken homes.

G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu grip IS evil. They added the Kung Fu Grip at the same time they gave into the anti-war activists and turned him from a military man into a orange jump suited "adventurer" who fought for the environment.

Well, out here on the right side of the nation, GI Joe has a super big aircraft carrier with tracking runway lights and appropriate sounds that I just bought for my grandson's 6th birthday next weekend. There were lots of cool choices at ToysRUs, including historical GI Joes from WWII.

I think environmental weenie GI Joe is passe.

I still wish I had the complete set of Star Trek figures I bought for my son. These were 12-inches high and we had ALL of them...Spock, Kirck, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov, plus the bridge. We sold them at a garage sale years ago and I think now they are worth thousands.

You are correct. The good ol' military Joe is back. He's not evil. The 1970s-era Joe who had Kung Fu grip is both evil and passe.
