[history]
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Too many people in Fayetteville tried to race through intersections before the traffic light turned red, so the city installed cameras to nab red light runners. The traffic cameras are coming soon to Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill (also in Rocky Mount - CD). But, before some cameras are up, there is a way around them.

Former City Councilman Mark Scruggs spearheaded Raleigh's traffic camera ordinance. A republican if anyone didnt know. He quite after last session and was replaced by lawyer Phillip Isley. Also a republican.

A lot of these cities that implement the cameras also shorten the time between yellow and red to generate more revenue. A slower yellow light is probably the best way to save lives.

I take it you have not read all the recent stories about cameras that were "accidently" misprogrammed to ticket people who were not running red lights.
When you get one of these tickets you have no way of knowing what the color of the light was when the picture was taken.

However, you would send a more powerful message if you bought a high powered air rifle and took out a few cameras..... Better yet, take out those responsible for installing them and providing them.

Former City Councilman Mark Scruggs spearheaded Raleigh's traffic camera ordinance. "What they need to recognize is that this is a company trying to make a profit on the backs of the public safety of our citizens, and it shouldn't be accepted. The attorney general should take a hard look at it," he said.Is he talking about the plate-covering company or the red-light camera company?

However, you would send a more powerful message if you bought a high powered air rifle and took out a few cameras..... Believe it or not, most of those cameras were intentionally designed to be bulletproof from airguns and small calibre firearms.

The plate-covering company, of course.

Rep. Bob Hensley, D-Wake, tried to block red light camera legislationJust one more example of how state level Democrats in the South don't necessarily follow the DNC's line. Sure this guy might have some liberal points, but just imagine what Giddy would say if they asked her about stoplight cameras

Point well taken.

I was told by a nephew that a local sheriff deputy stopped him and told him to remove just a plactic covering he had over his license plate. The deputy said the 'glare' could prevent the plate from being readable at times.
See a lot of those around...

>> Is this for real? I remeber a couple of threads which said that sort of thing was bogus.<<
That thing could EASILY be manufactured. Just like the computer-screen blockers. No problem, and brilliant, IMHO.

You can take out the cameras w/a .22 right into the lens. Of course, you have to be wearing a costume at the time because the lens IS taking your picture..

I take it you have not read all the recent stories about cameras that were "accidently" misprogrammed to ticket people who were not running red lights. Id rather spend an hour in traffic court pointing out the lack of recent calibration than have another friend go through the agony of an accident like that.
There are two intersections behind my home and we used to have at least one accident a week at one or the other. It was almost universally due to people stretching lights. The streets dept. tried everything to stop this, new traffic lights, 7 am to 6 pm crossing guards, a white strobe behind the red, changing light timing, even the re-scaping of both corners. Nothing worked. Finally, the cameras were installed and after a month or two we saw our last accident. That was about six months ago.
Based on that, Id say they work.

A slower yellow light is probably the best way to save lives. To a point. If you make it too long, though, you encourage people to try to "beat" the light, and hence they speed up like maniacs when they see it. That's not going to save any lives.
