[history]
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Too many people in Fayetteville tried to race through intersections before the traffic light turned red, so the city installed cameras to nab red light runners. The traffic cameras are coming soon to Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill (also in Rocky Mount - CD). But, before some cameras are up, there is a way around them.

Hensley checked the law and said "The Eliminator" is not illegal in North Carolina.... yet!
I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republicans left me.

Where can I get one?
To: KantianBurke
It's real, and it's actually pretty simple. It's made of a series of louvre-like plastic tabs that allow your license plate to be seen from directly behind the vehicle, but makes it impossible for the plate to be read from a point above the vehicle and off to one side (where red-light cameras are typically placed).

For every government action, there is an equal and opposite popular reaction.

Wonder if I should amend my "Big Brother" sign to include the Eliminator's web address? :-)
To: Constitution Day
It'll be illegal soon. NC jumped all over "The Urinator", so "The Eliminator" is sure to follow.

From the website. Click on the link.
However, you would send a more powerful message if you bought a high powered air rifle and took out a few cameras.....
To: KantianBurke
I also recall seeing tests that say it doesn't work. Not sure. I think they were saying the angle isn't enough because the cameras wait until the car is almost parallel with the lens.
To: KantianBurke
It is real but according to NC state law anything you do to obscure your plates even if it is from an angle is illegal.

Heh heh.
You were really out front here in NC on this issue, Darth.
I don't make it a habit to run red lights, but I want one of these on general principles.

"I tried to tell folks that this law was easily skirted and that it was only being used to raise money," Hensley said. "It's just a hidden tax on the populous [sic]. It doesn't have anything to do with safety although people think it does." As a friend of someone who was speared at an intersection by someone trying to stretch a light, I would have to disagree with the honorable legislator. In an accident like this, the more injured victim is usually the person whos light has just turned green and is pulling into an intersection and takes the full brunt of impact on the driver side door.
Ive got another safer, cheaper alternative- How about not running red lights? As an added bonus you might be able to avoid the guilt of condemning an otherwise healthy person into a premature geriatric state
