Every morning I turn on my computer and head for FreeRepublic. Until recently, I might find an email or two, and perhaps a comment that came in after I had turned of the computer for the night.
Now, when I see the MY COMMENTS highlighted, I am amazed to find a dozen or more new articles which have been sent to me via *ping* lists. I know of only two lists to which I requested to to be added, but now it seems I am on fifteen or twenty. And most of them are topics that are not really something I'm fired up over, it seems I just "happened" to have made some comment on some thread, and *voila`* I'm on a *ping* list.
I don't want anyone to think I'm whining, it's just that this is starting to look like SPAM to me. Today alone, I have to write to four more of these lists to request removal. It seems like I have to write these requests every day now.
Is this bugging anyone else, or am I the only curmdgeon in these here parts?
I have a particular talent for figuring out the least-effort-required solution to mitigate the worst aspect of an issue. That comes from my experience doing the work of two people in my IT job. I have to do triage when there are a lot of production problems, but I don't want to put in a patch that causes further problems, nor do I want to spend a lot of time on a solution whose benefits are not worth the effort expended.
My boy......that is downright unamercun! LOL!!

PS. Oh, and ditto what PL said.....LOL (just kidding)
notatall! I know you have a list, like many of us...I just though it was an interesting thread. What's more facinating is that this thread hasn't bombed out yet by everyone pinging the poster!
I would like to see some rules layed down for this also, Spam sucks!

No Way! I enjoy your threads - besides you're FR Finest!
......I was thinking the same thing.....
Arthur is a champion on this topic! :)
You're right, because my philosophy makes sense! If only airport screeners worked that way. Instead the 'patch' they put in (searching people for no reason whatsoever other than to show that they can), may LOOK like security, but the main effect is to irritate the innocent. Likewise, federalizing airport security is a sledgehammer-pounding-a-nail solution, when arming pilots and reinforcing cockpit doors would almost completely eliminate suicide crashings. It's all about access to the cockpit!
But that's just a tangential rant superimposed on a half-assed attempt to come up with an example of my work philosophy in action.
By the way, I know all about being distracted by two-year-olds.
My daughter (there's a picture on my profile page) just turned two and her favorite words now are "Why?", "Huh?" and "Maybe!"
If there was one I would have to be on it.
If any of you ever see a book called "The Portable Curmudgeon" you have got to get it.
It's full of sarcastic, pointed quotes for many occasions.
Yeah, really!
Sometimes it seems like not a day passes without an article about ol' Ambulance Chaser.
Fine! ;-D
