Welcome to the USO Canteen FReeper Style
.
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

Tribute To HEROES
.
If there's anything that identifies and personifies all military people, it's the dogtags. It's one of the first things we get, and sometimes it's the last reminder of who we are. They signify our unity of purpose and our dedication to our country.

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics, beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals, is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women - and that is the force that the USO so serves.

Thank you ALL for your fabulous support of the FReeper USO Canteen.
The receptionist at SAMWolfs office has a Marine friend of hers that could use some morale building.
He's at Camp LeJeune right now waiting for a training deployment to a ship.
He's 29 has 2 daughters under age 3 and is missing his family.
SAMWolf told her he would pass the Marines name and address onto the Canteen.
His current snail mail address is:

You are so kind Misty.Themeless Thursday is such fun . I told FallGuy how you have to box up stuff in the garage and he groaned. He knows he has that to do once the house sells. All his tools and drills and things. He said he feels for you in all the hard work you are doing.

Hi Kayak, how absolutely adorable!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support of the Canteen. I am so glad we are friends.( big smile)

I don't know about your garage, but mine was full of spiders and dust in the corners. I just felt like I couldn't pack anything up that was grimy. Some of the garden tools had some rust and yuck so I polished them with the dremel. the neat thing about that is when we unpack everything it will be clean! :) I love tools! One of my favorite places to go is Harbor Freight Tool :))) I know....I am a weird girl! :)

Don't know if this is true but if it is it's worth reading
Gun Control
From: Ed Chenel, a police officer in Australia.
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down
Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were
forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed
by
our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500
million dollars.
The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2
percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide,
armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of
Victoria
alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while
the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals
still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past
12
months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is
unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the
elderly.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has
decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
"successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this
data on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the
state
Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest
citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the
law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans, before it's to late!

Not weird at all,, hahahaa....I loved going with my Dad when I was a little girl when he went to the Hardware store. And now I love going with FallGuy when he goes to Home Depot and lumber places and tool places. I can't explain it but it just is amazing to me the things they have and what all they can do.
hahahahaa
I know exactly what you mean.

I have to tell you something really funny. My little grandson, Dyl Pyckle, just turned two this month. He was over here tonight and all of a sudden he stood and saluted, slapping his arm down to his side when he finished! I have never seen a two year old so into planes and military stuff! Kids are so darned cute! :)

It's like so many other things.....drugs being legalized in Sweden to the detriment of their citizens; socialized medicine; gun control; they are failures around the world yet the idiots insist we should follow suit! Why don't these people go live in the countries that already have that stuff!!!! I get very angry too!
