This is an unofficial quick and dirty presidential poll. Apparently, there is a good sized contingent on Free Republic that believes that President Bush is:

1. Not conservative enough
2. Not pro-life
3. Is a gun-grabber
4. Is a federal power-grabber
5. Will appoint liberal judges
6. Is a globalist
7. Is in it just for oil
8. Is too soft on immigration
9. Is too soft (or too hard) on Israel
10. Is a crook
11. All of the above
12. None of the above
13. Other (you name it)

Please list the numbers that best match the reasons you don't like Bush (or state other reasons if not on the list) and state whether you believe that President Bush should be defeated even if it means installing a Democrat in the Whitehouse.

Conversely, if you believe President Bush should be re-elected, please state why.

Please state who you would like to see win the Presidency in 2004 and whether or not you believe he/she has a chance of winning.

BUMP. I agree wholeheartedly. The liberals ("moderates") in the party have most of the money and experience.

But that doesn't mean we should just give up. We have to keep fighting until we win.

I don't see Pres. Bush as strongly in either camp. He's more of a true moderate, conservative in some ways, no so conservative in others.

But the best place to fight is inside the party, not outside. Third party politics is a perenial loser. By the same token, just sitting on our hands and letting objectionable things go unchallenged is a mistake, too.

I'm not suggesting you change your own opinion on Bush, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to read more thoroughly and post more thoughtfully.

There is no magical shortcut. If Ron Paul (or Pat Buchanan or Alan Keyes or anyone) were to somehow wake up tomorrow as president (and everything else was unchanged), he would either begin governing differently than he now speaks or he wouldn't begin governing at all.

My dear FreedominJesusChrist ... just as the difference between therapeutic and reproduction cloning is a matter of Intent and just as the difference between revenge and Justice is a matter of Attitude, the difference between Hate Speech and Free Speech is a matter of Target.

(Even the owner of this forum distinguished between bashing of Muslims and those of every other faith in the "No Mormon Bashing" thread.)

RedBloodedAmerican's patriotism is of a decidedly nationalistic bent so I -- as a critic -- become a suitable target for juvenile Hate speech intended to ostracize, dehumanize, intimidate and silence me.

No genuine love of country ever ends up lashing out at or demonizing others. Rabid nationalism does.

It's going to get decidedly worse before it gets better. No need to take offense ... it's a sign of the End Times, you know. Let's stave them off as best we can. =)

What's the definition of a Bush hater?

I disagree with the President on several issues, primarily immigration and CFR. Overall, I'd rate his job performance as very good.

Should I show up on a campaign finance reform thread or one discussing immigration and politely disagreed with W, would I be tagged as a Bush hater on that basis alone? It sometimes seems that a "Either you're with the President, or against him" attitude prevails, with "against him" being defined as any disagreement with one of his policies.

In 63 years, I have developed a fair ability to detect racism by those who claim that they are not racist. That includes all colors, black, whites, brown, yellow and rainbows and all sides of the political spectrum from conservative to left wing. In my perception, I'm starting to see and smell it with the word core being a code word, IMHO.
