This is an unofficial quick and dirty presidential poll. Apparently, there is a good sized contingent on Free Republic that believes that President Bush is:
Please list the numbers that best match the reasons you don't like Bush (or state other reasons if not on the list) and state whether you believe that President Bush should be defeated even if it means installing a Democrat in the Whitehouse.
Conversely, if you believe President Bush should be re-elected, please state why.
Please state who you would like to see win the Presidency in 2004 and whether or not you believe he/she has a chance of winning.
Thanks,
Jim
Why are so many people willing to accept mediocrity or worse? Have you no faith that there is another Ronald Reagan out there?
I will submit there are many potential Reagans out there, but they are not coming forward because conservative voters are willing to sell out to Republican whores. We make the would be Reagans run against incumbents who have the advantages of prior pork spending in their districts, the advantages of the known over the unknown, name recognition for the average dumbed down American voter and access to campaign funds. Add to this the fact that politics is a dirty business. There is no one among us who has not done something they are ashamed of or that could be embarrassing to us. Political campaigns are going to bring our skeletons out of the closet. I would guess there are some potential Reagans who simply don't want to be examined under a public microscope bent on destroying their reputations.
Electing and re-electing spineless Republicans makes it next to impossible to elect Reaganesque leaders. Things are not going to get better until we demand more from those we elect or throw them out and demand more from their replacements. Voting for status quo Republicans is worse than not voting. It makes replacing poor Republicans with genuine conservatives even harder. If you want the Republicans to be an alternative to Democrats, don't vote for them unless they are. Our downward spiral into socialism is not going to end until we change the character of the Republican Party.
And the more things stay the same; the less they will change.
I'm going to try to say this as politely as I can:
First of all, I must tell you that I absolutely HATE IT when someone uses the battle of Iwo Jima to advance some hyperbolic, hysterical point they might be trying to make. How dare you suggest that people who died there did so for nothing? Really, how dare you? If you're going to address me, please dispense with that sort of thing. It is absurd, and as the daughter of a man who survived it, and the cousin of a man who didn't, I really do resent the implication that it was nothing but a big waste of time.
Now. Earlier, you said this:
Look at the threads that I have posted or that I have posted on over the past several months. How many times have I posted what I believe is the fate of the United States? Have you counted the times anyone has taken serious issue with my prophecy? Could it be that many recognize that it may well turn out to be correct?
Could it be that many just think you're a hysterical doom and gloomer? A Chicken Little in a suit? I am sorry to be so harsh, but when you say "our country is going down in flames", conservatives are "delusional" and we have "passed the Gates of Hell", it is simply impossible for me to take you seriously. Get a grip on yourself, please.
"..if he decides to run for re-election, I'll support him. By this time next year he may have decided he's had enough. Or, more importantly, he may feel he has done enough."
He ran as the compassionate conservavtive, but we have discovered that he is really the "counterfit" conservative. What has he done that was enough? Or are you being sarcastic and referring to the harm he has done to the conservative agenda?
Great ticket that most conservatives would be thrilled to vote for. But as long as you set your sights so low and accept the mediocrity being offered by the current Republican incumbents, you are correct in your second conclusion. Wishful thinking alone will not make it happen. But FreeRepublic leading conservatives in demanding it as a condition for their votes in November, would go along way toward making it reality.
For those who don't want to talk about race consider this: Newt studied the demographics of elections. He concluded that if Republicans could reliably take 10% of the black vote, Democrats would never again ever win a national election. FreeRepublic has a chance to make this ticket a reality. And this is only one of several alternatives that could completely change the character of the Republican Party for the better.
Jim Robinson, are you out there. Are you thinking about this series of posts that I have made on this thread. I am right, but you are the one who is going to have to take the lead and convince Freepers that FreeRepublic is committed to restoring the Constitution rather than simply recycling Republicans.
The only way that a Republican is going to win the Whitehouse in 2004, is if a genuine conservative defeats Bush for the nomination. Your thinking has been overcome by the mercury. Confused thinking and headaches are some of the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning.
Nah, Vlad was a wimp.
The only way that a Republican is going to win the Whitehouse in 2004, is if a genuine conservative defeats Bush for the nomination. ...I disagree. We have the right man in the White House, he has strong support among the GOP and independents, and support from the more-conservative Democrats. What we need to do is give him a mandate to work with; put more conservatives in the House and, especially, in the Senate. Without congressional backing no conservative president will get far.
He [George W. Bush] is, thank God -- and will be for the next six and a half years -- my President. [credited to Brian Allen]
I did it with 3 words.
But if you don't want to read it, I will try to summarize for you.
Then what difference does it make?
We vote Republican thinking they will govern with Republican values. But we get the Democrats agenda passed and we should think that is OK?
Then prepare yourself for a Democrat president in 2005, because there is not going to be a viable conservative leader who is suicidal and stupid enough to take on President Bush.
You need to get a grip on reality. Quit trying to play the cards you wished you had been dealt, and take a look at what is actually in your hand.
With a firm grounding in the real world situation, there is much that conservatives can do to have a huge impact in restoring our republic, playing only the cards we have, while relying on God and His Providence.
Fact #1: We live in a two-party system, and will be for the foreseeable future...in all likelihood for the rest of our lifetime.
Fact #2: The Democratic Party is the home of liberalism.
Fact #3: The Republican Party is the home of conservatism.
Fact #4: The leadership of the GOP is not as conservative as you or I would like.
Fact #5: The overwhelming majority of Republicans, both in and out of office, are pretty darned conservative.
Fact #6: The American electorate is still not as informed or conservative as you or I would like.
Fact #7: There is a war on.
Suggested sensible conservative response to each of these facts:
1. We live in a two-party system, and will be for the foreseeable future...in all likelihood for the rest of our lifetime....
Fight for control of your party!
2. The Democratic Party is the home of liberalism....
Fight the Democrats on every front, and with all of your might. If you aren't happy supporting the candidates the GOP has chosen for you close to home, use your resouces to help a conservative elsewhere...there are scores of them.
3. The Republican Party is the home of conservatism....
Recognize the fact that conservatives are a vital and growing force, and that we are the overwhelming majority in the party. Build the conservative movement within the GOP...striving to elect every possible conservative to office.
4. The leadership of the GOP is not as conservative as you or I would like....
Raise up a new generation of leaders. Continue to exert the considerable influence that we do have in the political process.
5. The overwhelming majority of Republicans, both in and out of office, are pretty darned conservative....
Send our good elected conservatives some reinforcements...as many as possible, and as soon as possible.
6. The American electorate is still not as informed or conservative as you or I would like....
Educate them!!...by every means at our disposal...on the web, in print, in the broadcast media, and especially one on one, personally. Raise up an army of fearless folks who are able and willing to effectively fight the war of words with the liberals, and to organize and win campaigns.
7. There is a war on....
Temper your passions with this knowledge...and remember that there is actually a silver lining in the sense that the war has awakened many to the truth that our federal government's true primary reason for existence is to defend the life and liberty of its citizens.
That is my brief take on the situation and my solutions...I think conservatives would do well to follow this strategy as outlined...it is certainly the one I am proceeding under.

If you will go back and read your history, you will discover that there were some very special historical circumstances that let to the implosion of the Whig party, which allowed the newly formed Republican party to pick up its pieces.
When one factors in all the historical and social differences, the chances of it happening again are slim, at least with regard to the Republican party. The party that is perched for such a fall is the Democrat party, unless they get an assist from factional conservatives.
No, Howlin. It is because he is out Democrating the Democrats.
Yes, I meant to post it.
Should I apologize for not being as well educated and articulate as you?
