A Few of FR's Finest.....Every Day.....7-11-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FREE REPUBLIC'S FINEST

Utah Girl

Utah Girl has been a member of Free Republic since 3/27/01. She has become well known to many of us in that relatively short time. While her "home thread" is America The Right Way, she also post articles and contributes to threads in both Late Breaking News and General Interest. She is well read and well informed and imparts much information to all threads she visits. She is a long time contributor to the Guild Thread and provided many recipes for the Guild Cookie Exchange Thread and the Guild Thanksgiving Recipes. Currrently, she has been posting to the Elizabeth Smart Kidnapping Daily Thread where she comments on the local coverage and perspective of the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart in Salt Lake City Utah last month.

She is In The Spotlight today, as One of Free Republic's Finest, in recognition of the Daily Threads she posted and hosted during the Olympic Winter Games held in Salt Lake City in February 2002. She was our gal on the scene in Utah for the entire Olympic Games as well as for the pre-game hoopla and celebrations including the carrying of the torch and the preparations Utah underwent for these games. Hundreds of us, maybe even thousands, contributed and lurked on these threads. It was enriching and enlightening and provided us a place to vent, if necessary, especially during the Figure Skating Events. Lots of great photographs too and lots of laughs. .

Thanks Utah Girl. You are well liked and respected and are One of Free Republic's Finest.

Oh my gosh you guys, I just got home from work, and came to see what was going on in the world, and I am being honored with this! I am overwhelmed. I had one of the worst days of my life at work today, and then to come home to this, and the kind comments is very touching. Thanks so much. And I'm going to post a picture of the town where I live, Provo, Utah.

*Optomist's Hunting Dog*

Friends -- one an optimist and the other a pessimist -- could never quite agree on any topic of discussion.

One day the optimist decided he had found a good way to pull his friend out of his continually pessimistic way of thinking. The optimist owned a huntin' dog that could walk on water.

His plan? Take the pessimist and the dog out duck hunting in a boat.

They got out into the middle of the lake, and the optimist shot down a duck. The dog immediately walked out across the water, retrieved the duck, and walked back to the boat.

The optimist looked at his pessimistic friend and said, "What do you think about that?"

The pessimist replied, "That dog can't swim, can he?"

A President Bush picture just for me. That makes my whole, and he makes me smile. I'm so glad a God-fearing man with integrity and all those other good qualities is our President. We are blessed to have him.

where in the world did "The Beehive State" come from? I never knew....Did Utah pick it's most popular hair-do for a state motto

LOL! The Beehive State came from the fact that bees are industrious workers, and they live in beehives. And the pioneers to Utah had to work extremely hard to support themselves, and make Utah what it is today. It is a tribute to them for being such hard workers.

Thanks for all of your kind comments, jokes, and graphics. They truly made this evening special for me as I came home from work and realized I was being honored. I truly appreciate talking with you on various threads on FR, or lurking on threads you have posted. Thanks so much, you make FR a place I want to come back and visit often. I'd like to share a picture of the area where my family owns a cabin. It is beautiful there, and brings me much peace. May it do so for all of you. :)

Doing the Olympics threads was so much fun for me, especially the ice skating threads.

lodwick, you posted a whole bunch of pictures from Utah. The cabin one looks just like the back of our family cabin in the winter time...I'm also going to make the Safe Sex on the Beach drink you posted. That drink sounds mighty good. :)

"when folks have jobs, and other places where to be, I think that they, and their schedule should be coordinated with the spotlight so as not to miss them. And vice versa."

Excellent thoughts, JL. I will alert Billie and Mama_Bear to your post and we will discuss it at our next "freepmail staff meeting" which will be our first staff meeting. We never made a conscious decision to alert or not alert, surprise or not surprise etc. All of us being in different time zones complicates things too.

In any case, Utah Girl is here now. Hooray!!

Yes we are. My heart swells with gratitude to God that our prayers were answered. And God bless you Utah Girl, you're one of the nicest people I know who is always ready to give whatever someone needs.
