That is good! I did that stand around the pavement scene two years ago during a bomb scare at LAX around the UA luggage departure area. It was hot and windy.

I agree. Clearing the secure area sounds silly. Unless they have reason to believe there was a breach of the security... like the time when the guy forgot to plug the metal detector into the wall (Doh!) or the time that the guy fell asleep watching the X-Ray machine (Duh!).

A white guy, overweight, with a ponytail, started yelling, "Artie took my job, Artie took my job" while he was shooting, according to an eyewitness on CNN, and then he started telling jokes.

As callous as it sounds, if this is the best al-Qaida can bring against us these days, it is a sign that they're beaten almost to extinction. No more grand schemes, no more jetliners plowing into buildings. Just an occasional lone looney who gets popped before he can do much damage.

Certainly, the loss is grievous to the family of the victim (the innocent one, not the looney). But it beats the wails of anguish from 3,000 families. And if the barbarians are reduced to this level of desperation, their "organization" has ceased to exist.

We now enter Endgame, where our targets are individuals in isolated situations calculatedly murdering civilians. More insidious but with less scope.

I think that if it was terrorists they would have wanted to inflict much more damage than they did. To walk up to a specific person and shoot, doesn't sound like their method of operation.

Good question. There are certainly extra policemen in the airports, but not at every counter.

El- Al takes its security very seriously.

Doubt it. Berkeley is in San Fran area, not LA. The perp's height and weight, 5'8" 215 pounds, suggest an older, filled-out shooter. Who knows? Maybe the perp and passenger both Jewish, and this could be a private vendetta.
