Didn't some Hindu guy shoot up an airport with a shotgun last month?

There was a shooting at the New Orleans airport. However, the shooter was a convert to Islam. He "went off" when people made fun of his turban. Yes, some Muslims wear turbans, (e. g. Iran).

My gut feeling also, also expressed to my wife five minutes ago. BTW, weren't you the master monitor of the Condit case
months back? Where do you think it's going, if anywhere?

Well I am going to stick my neck out and say that the terrorists at LAX and at San Dimas were probably ISLAMISTIC TERRORISTS.

I can think of a few percussive weapons you could fire swiftly and fairly accurately from a stiffarmen position....and the perp's weapon of choice was obviously NOT the weapon of coice most of US would think of for such a job...

PLEASE do not conjecture on this thread what that weapon should have been.

Please pardon me for feeling it necessary to make such a waring in the first place.

If there were "too many" guns, then the odds would be that at least one other person besides the perp would have been armed....and the perp(s I still believe their handler is wandering around loose) would have been dead before the attack could have been carried out.

Sorry, but this is not accurate.

The shooter approached, drew a weapon and was immediately tackled and/or shot. If everybody within shooting distance had fired at him, the only likely result would have been a lot more friendly fire casualties.

Surprise attacks, by definition, almost always get off a few shots before defenders can respond.

Didn't you see The Matrix?

Moving Security to the front doors would only result in the attacks taking place outside rather than inside. Anywhere you locate Security, it will result in a large, stationary, vulnerable crowd.

Prediction: Local Arab male. Not actually attached to a terrorist group. Just heard one too many death to america speeches at the Mosque and decided to have at it. It is terrorism, but isolated. I could be wrong, but that is my gut feeling.

Yeah, and then there will be the coincidences... recently in Florida... New Jersey... business in Oklahoma City... vacationed in the Phillipines in '94... Mosque connected to Pakistani Jamaat groups... little things like that...

San Dimas was a terrorist?

Saw nothing to indicate that, did anyone confirm whether the missing plane was the tail number of the one that crashed? or the same type of aircraft?

Who is this idiot Jim Hahn? His face is on every channel, and every third word out of this guy, like some chicken who wants to be a parrot, is "isolated incident", "isolated incident", "isolated incident". I guess he's the Mayor of L.A. or something? Without sounding rude, could someone please arrest the Mayor in an "isolated incident"? Because, his idea of providing security is one big isolated incident. 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, men with guns, knives and chains. 1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, make sure everyone understands, the main issue is everyone has an isolated incident once in awhile, so no big deal. Please put an isolated incident pie in the face of this Mayor, I don't want to see this guy. At least Gray Davis (D), the Governor of California, gave a professional, reassuring, and responsible press conference on this, he only said "isolated incident" once, but he said all the right things, he made sure we knew he's been in contact with Tom Ridge Homeland Security. So I liked what I heard from Davis, and perhaps Gray Davis should be Mayor of L.A. instead of this Hahn idiot. Simon could then be Governor. What's Bush have to say on this? Maybe Bush could steal some of Davis' lines so he can sound like he knows what he's doing as well. But he's probably too busy signing socialist health bills and value diversity sort of things. Thank God for the El Al security - they save a lot of lives. Thank God for the Israelis, because what we have here is another total failure in our U.S. based Airport Security, a total joke, some gunman comes right into the terminal and does this horrific act, and we are told it's, well, no big deal, isolated you know -e.g. "CNN - it cannot compare with hundreds (hundreds?) of thousands of lives being killed" … Of course, what this means is, if this guy can come right and do this, then he could have come right in and blew up the entire place. Again, thank God for the Israelis, please let them run all of our airport security as soon as possible, but probably that Jim Hahn idiot would get in the way. Because, we got to do this in an isolated manner, not a secure manner, and from now on every Forth of July will be an isolated holiday and not a secured holiday. And, after all, you should fully expect to die at any moment, but just feel happy you died knowing you didn't profile anyone. Safety. Safety is an isolated sort of thing. Like, how Bush sees safety. Safety is whatever is safe for him even if it's bad for the Republicans. Anyway, I suppose Bush will tell us all about the isolated incident. Wonder what Reagan would have had to say. Being he was our last Republican President. By the way, how's our borders? Safe?

I did not conjecture squat

I simply reported what witnesses said it was... thus the reason I used quotes around the word "pistol"

Keep your powder dry, and don't go off half-cocked...

Our borders? Safe??? HAHHAAHHHAAAA!!!!!

See the politicos? Avoid them like the plague. They haven't a clue. They couldn't get laid in a cathouse.

Do yourself a big favor: buy a gun and get a CC.

You, and your community's safety, depends on you.

Such attacks are literally unstoppable. Anywhere you locate Security screening, it will result in a large, stationary crowd, perfect targets.

Moving it to outside the building would protect the building and perhaps limit the damage, since blasts outside are usually less destructive, but it wouldn't do a thing to prevent a shooter from opening fire on a crowd waiting to be screened.

"While our hundreds of agencies are busy trying to take credit for the investigation, handling the wounded,..."

Frankly, you exaggerate. If you mean the FBI and CIA...they aren't taking ANYWHERE NEAR ENOUGH credit IMO....if you mean the OTHER heros, like fire rescue....they aren't taking ANY credit at all.

From http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/07/04/la.airport.shooting/index.html:

Los Angeles airport shooting kills 3

July 4, 2002 Posted: 6:59 PM EDT (2259 GMT)

...Family members identified the male victim as 46-year-old Yakov Aminov, of Los Angeles. He died in surgery as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

His family said Aminov was dropping off friends at the airport when the attack happened. The family members said his wife, who is pregnant, fainted at the hospital and is now being treated there.

Another woman was shot and wounded; an El Al security guard was stabbed in the back, and another man was pistol-whipped by the gunman. Two other men were taken to the hospital for "cardiac issues," Baez added.

Baez said police were investigating the possibility that another attacker was involved.

Zvi Vapni, the Israeli deputy consul general in Los Angeles, said El Al's chief security officer, Haim Saphir, encountered the gunman running toward the El Al counter with a gun and a knife and ran to stop him. The gunman stabbed Saphir in the back, and Saphir then fatally shot the gunman.

Police said the gunman was a 52-year-old man, but they did not release further details. Law enforcement sources said at least one person had been taken into custody for questioning by police and was expected to be turned over to the FBI, which is leading the investigation.

Eyewitnesses told authorities they had seen the man with the gunman earlier in the day, but the circumstances of that encounter were unclear, the sources told CNN.

The attack occurred after days of warnings by federal officials about possible terrorist attacks on U.S. targets during the Independence Day holiday. But both local and federal authorities said it was too early to say whether terrorists were to blame for Thursday's shooting.

"We have no information that indicates that this incident is connected to any terrorist event or anything else, but the matter is under investigation right now," Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn said.

Added Richard Garcia, the FBI agent in charge of the bureau's Los Angeles office, "Right now, we're looking at it as an isolated incident."

And a Bush administration source told CNN, "There's no other intelligence that would speak to the contrary ... We don't have anything to suggest this is anything other than a criminal act."

However, FBI Special Agent Matthew McLaughlin said, "At this point, it's too early to rule out anything..."
