MY VOTE IS FOR SALE
Vanity | July 4, 2002 | B. A. Conservative

Posted on 07/04/2002 6:16:32 AM PDT by B. A. Conservative

It is beyond challenge that most, if not all, of the problems America faces today originate in Washington. It is fallacious reasoning to suggest that the problem lies with the people of the United States. Our government is a republic. Our republic is predicated on the theory that those elected to public office have intellectual competence, educational skills or experience that exceeds that of the electorate and that those elected public leaders will do what is right for the country even in opposition to commonly perceived public opinion. During most of the past century, the political class has demonstrably failed to lead, but have instead become political prostitutes selling laws and benefits in exchange for votes transforming our Constitutional republic into a tyrannical mob-rule democracy destined for bankruptcy. Non-producing parasites now use the Democratic Party to prey on their neighbors, the still producing members of our country.

Under our Constitution, the power of the United States resides in We the people. For too long, we have allowed that power to be delegated or sold by the prostitutes in both political parties, primarily those in Washington. Clearly, ours has become a top>down government. As one voice among We the people, I think it is time to withhold the delegation of that power by only delegating it to selected politicians and then only with strings attached. FreeRepublic is a much larger segment of We the people, with a much larger voice. We at FreeRepublic are the roots of the grassroots. Newcomers and some that have been frequenting this site for years may deny that Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives because of the discussions that took place on this web site. They are wrong. Our voice is loud and it is heard in the Halls of Congress and in the Whitehouse. The stain that will be remembered in history is not the stain on Monica's dress; it is the stain of Impeachment. And that stain came from the computer ink that spilled from the hearts of Freepers determined to see justice done. We at FreeRepublic are the roots of the grassroots. The buck starts here.

There has been a great deal of discussion on FreeRepublic lately about what role we should play in this fall's election and that we should cut Bush and the Republicans some slack. Variations of this theme have been discussed on other threads: "THAT which you believe"---"An open letter to Republicans" by redrock. I particularly like the comments by DoughtyOne and "Move the RINOs and we move the party. I really think it's that simple," by NickDanger.

Ronald Reagan won two landslide elections by telling Americans he was going to cut the government in Washington down to size. The Contract with America gave the Republicans control of both houses of Congress for the first time in roughly thirty years. Prior to the Contract with America Republicans only had control of even one house in Congress one other time in 70 years. The lesson that Republicans seem to have difficulty in learning is that the people are conservative and when presented a conservative agenda they will vote for it. And conversely, when pandering is all that is offered, the public prefers the real prostitutes every time. I have a solution to this problem. I call it the

Contract with Congress

I am not giving my vote to anybody in November. I have decided to auction my vote in this fall's Congressional elections. Politicians are going to have to bid for my vote. I have decided not to exclude any particular politicians or parties from the bidding. And I have decided to attach some rules to the bidding itself:

  1. There is a minimum bid.
  2. Anyone defaulting on any part of the minimum bid will be barred from consideration for future auctions.
  3. A public pledge to guarantee to bring the minimum bid to the floor for a vote is an acceptable alternative to a written and signed contract, although anyone offering a written and signed contract similar in format to the Contract with America will be given preference.
  4. Any part of the minimum bid or "contract" not enacted into law will be supported and returned to the floor in the next or subsequent sessions of Congress as required until enacted into law.
  5. If there are no acceptable bids for my vote in Congressional races per the rules above, my vote (normally Republican straight ticket) will not be cast at all.

    Minimum Bid:

    1. Complete scrapping of Title 26, Subtitle A-Income Taxes.
    2. Replacement of the Income Tax with the Fair Tax, the Flat Tax, or a combination of the two.
    3. The growth of government spending is unacceptable. I not only want it stopped; I demand that it be reversed by at least 2% per cent per year for at least the next two years. In 2004, I will re-evaluate to determine whether or not the rate of reduction should be adjusted for future years.
    4. No more socialism. That means no new payments to individuals except for services rendered or goods purchased. That means no new grants to organizations, public or private, and no new grants to state or local governments.
    5. Immediately begin the voluntary privatization of Social Security using the Cato plan.

This is only the Minimum. There are a number of suggested options that politicians could add now or that we will add in future contracts for future elections.

    Suggested Options:

Most of these problems would eventually be solved by Term Limits. I think the Term Limits Amendment should be saved as part of the ultimate threat packaged as a part of a package to be presented under Article V to a Constitutional Convention. It takes time to put together sufficient public arousal and support to apply the kind of pressure that we may need to bring to bear on people who are used to exerting power rather than being subjected to it.

Jim, exodus is a liar. As you can easilt see, by reading some of my posts, on this thread, I have given many substancial reasons. So have you.

I take this as a personal attack, by exodus, in a feeble attempt at confrontation. Please advise.

exodus, if your only means of refutation, is a lie, then you have failed and failed miserably.

Oh, no.

Jim. I take nopardon's lack of reasoning, lack of evidence, and falling back on telling Daddy that I'm being mean to her as completely, falling down, hilariously funny.

Thank you, nopardons. I had almost fallen asleep waiting for your "reasons."

Good points. The "nobody votes 3rd party crowd" aren't going to be swayed though. They'll vote for Hillary Clinton if the GOP runs her for president.

The Republicans protected Clinton, and allowed his treason, and the violation of our security, to continue. That's a big problem for me.

To: exodus
Big problem for me too, but for all the other reasons I am not going to be content to allow the Democrats to continue holding the Senate. Too many judges are being held up as it is. Also, would hate to see the House fall to the Democrats.
# 260 by Jim Robinson

I hope they don't lose the House too, Jim.

They could avoid any danger of losing the House, and regain the Senate, by adopting a conservative platform.

We have a majority in the House, 49 percent of the Senate, and the Presidency. Even the people are on our side; you know as well as I do that the majority of our citizens are conservative.

The time to make a stand is now.

Yes Jim, please advise her. I can't think of another person who is so desperately in need of some sound advice.

Vote them out. It's so simple. Vote out the liberal Democrats and the Congress automatically becomes more conservative. Keep voting them out and we may find renewed life in the Reagan Revolution. Lower taxes? Check! Strong military? Check! Reduced spending? Give us a conservative mandate in the next two or three elections and this time we'll get it!

Defeating or splitting the Republican Party is a no win situation. Just gives us more Clintons, Torricellis, McKinneys, Davises, etc. No thanks.

You know something Jim, what you say there is undeniable. As much as I'd like to see nearly every single GOP loser in Washington working at McDonalds, what you say above is exactly what would happen.

Problem is our system is deteriorating rapidly no matter who's in power, we all know it. Question is what to do about it.

The idea of working within the system and somehow electing conservatives is commendable, and I'm not even sure I disagree with it. However, we never wind up with conservatives we just keep building this huge, invasive governmental complex.

We need to some MOVEMENT somehow. You once posted something to the effect that you realized you would never see our Republic restored to how it was intended.

That's bullshit. Look at what you've done here? We have a lot of power, we need to start implimenting that power to the max. If we want, what we've done so far can be just the very beginning.

This started with 4 people in my neighborhood and now is becoming a massive force. FR started with a few people who cared and look at what has happened. Just think if we could exponentialize the last five years to the next.

I have a feeling that things are going to get quite interesting in this country in the near future. There is much we can do to affect events as long as we keep our integrity. The first word one sees when they browse here is "FREE", we must never forget that. People like us who love Freedom are like hamsters in a habitrail, we won't stop chewing incessantly until we've busted the cage. I want to bust the cage Jim, so do you, so does everyone else around here.

We have to do something in this lifetime Jim, I don't want you to leave this earth and not see your dreams come true. I sure as hell don't want that for myself.

It sounds simple, but the Republicans in office right now are the ones who have done more damage to our freedom than any Democrat ever did.

The Republicans imposed the Patriot Act on our nation, and have set in motion the framework to create a totalitarian State stronger than any other in history.

Well, nothing is going to happen in the forseeable future (except more woe) if we keep turning the reins of power back to the Democrats. The Reagan Revolution must be revived and this time we must keep it alive for the next 40 years or beyond. The Democrats held power for 60 or more years in the last century and we have the socialist state to show for it. Dump the Democrats and keep them dumped!

The Reagan Revolution has been demonised for so long that Republicans won't even use the term anymore. Only real conservatives use the term nowadays.

We are so close to having everything we want. As the wise man said, "Every problem is an opportunity."

Even with the Patrot Act chasing our freedom, if the Republicans would gather their courage and fight for what they believe, we have today the best chance ever to reverse the damage done by decades of socialist policies.

Once again, we hold the Presidency, the House, and 49 percent of the Senate. We will never be stronger.

The time to act is now.

The only way that could be true is if the Republican Party itself was composed of leftists; Republicans are in control of our government today.

If you're right, the only chance we have is to dump the Republican Party and en masse adopt a third party as our own.

I'm willing to follow your lead, Jim. Constitutional Party, Libertarian, whatever, as long as it's conservative.

Say the word.

I believe that a party composed of politically aware, activist conservatives would draw a massive amount of grassroot support.

Hah! Join a party with a few thousand members? What the heck for? Have you no sense of reality at all? Give me 60 Senators and then I'll agree that we are controlling the government. Forty nine leaves Daschle & Co firmly in charge.

Goodnight.

Vote 'em out! And keep 'em out!

I'm not talking about Dems or Repubs, they're ... well what they are. I'm actually getting tired of talking about them, I want to talk about US, the people. Our problems are starting to go beyond our useless politicians.

Jim seriously, look objectively at the situation. How many politicians are useful for the purposes of a Free Republic? You might be able to name a few, but it would be very few. Almost all are participating in the devolution at this point.

We're really in a bad way here, if something doesn't give it's going to get much worse. That's not rhetoric it's pure science and history.

It's going to take a lot more than tactical lever pulling on election day to right this barge.

I don't believe so.

The Republican Party is down to people who blindly vote for anything labeled "Republican," and the liberals who have realized that they can find a home with the party that doesn't have the stink of Clinton on it.

The strong "undecided" support has evaporated. That can be seen by the fact that the Senate Republican's projected gain of about 20 extra seats over their already-existing majority has been converted into a Senate controlled by the Democratics.

If the Republican Party gains any more power, it won't be coming from our side of the fence.

Ronald Reagan fought alone.

Look what he accomplished.

We have the Presidency, the House, and ONE man less than the Democrats have in the Senate.

If this isn't the time to make a stand, it will never come.
