A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 7-03-02

A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

"ONE OF FREE REPUBLIC'S FINEST"
How do you spell FUN? How do you spell FUNNY? How do you spell GENEROUS? How do you spell CHIVALROUS? How do you spell SENSITIVE? How do you spell PATRIOT? How do you spell CONSERVATIVE? How do you spell PROUD TEXAN?
Well, some of us spell it L-O-D-W-I-C-K
Lodwick is a mostly daytime FReeper. He spreads his charm around to many threads including, but not limited to, The Guild, The Canteen, and The Freeoples. His FReeping is often in competition with The List (things to do, often requested by Mrs. L.), with FReeping usually winning out, at least until shortly before Mrs. Lodwick returns home. His contributions to the threads include photos, food preparation tips, product information and a whole lot of caring and sharing. He is also old-fashion chivalrous, often coming to the rescue when a FReeper is rude or obnoxious to a lady and demands that said disruptor behave as a gentleman or leave.
.
He is an enthusiastic fundraiser, participating in the Quarterly Fund Raising Event (aka the Freepathon). In fact, his Profile Page includes this statement: "Becoming very upset that more folks are not pulling their weight by donating monthly to support the finest conservation website on the internet." He espouses this view often in his daily postings. Currently, he is working hard to BRING BABY BILLY HOME.
Lodwick, you are a FRiend to many of us and brighten our days. Your generous contributions to various efforts have made a difference in many lives.
We Love Ya, Bud. Enjoy your day in the spotlight.

Good morning, all!
We have gotten a letter, and a phone call since I last reported on Eric's boot camp experience, so I thought I'd give you a brief report.
He's one third of the way done, and says time is flying. Yesterday the whole squad had to run a mile, and they were told that the first 5 men in would get phone privileges tonight, and he said when he heard that, he had to win! He came in third, and called us last night! It was incredibly good to hear his voice, and his enthusiasm for what he was doing!
He's a little homesick, but says he tries not to think about home very much. He says he misses things like being able to jump in his car and go where he wants to, or just grabbing a can of pop when he wants to. He also said that you never realize what you have until you are away from it, and he thanked us for our love (OK, I cried a whole lot about that one!)
He loves the physical stuff, especially the obstacle course where he had to climb a wall with a rope. He also mentioned crawling around in wet sawdust as a fun activity (??). He's excited that they're going to learn hand-to-hand combat on Thursday, and will soon learn how to fire their M-16's (that's what he's been waiting for!).
He did say that because it was so hot today that they didn't do their PT outside......some humanity has obviously crept into the military! He also said that they would be marching up Misery and Agony hills (about 15K, I think), but they wouldn't be forced to run because some people had died doing it (good thinking).
The food, he says, is good.....they have chow 3 times a day, but he said he's never really full.......of course he's always eaten like a horse anyway (6'1", 155 lbs!), and with all the physical exertion, there would be no way to fill the boy up. They spend a whole lot of time cleaning, and a few days ago had to change from BDU's (Battle Dress Uniforms) to PT's (Physical Training) in 5 minutes, then line up, then change back to BDU's then line up, then change change back to PT's run upstairs and line up, then run downstairs, change back to BDU's and line up........he said he'd never worked up a sweat before changing clothes!
His Drill Sergeants (with one exception) have been 'awesome' (his word), and he hasn't been yelled at individually yet (who would yell at such a good boy anyway? LOL!)
He has been able to continue to witness to lots of the guys around him, and really feels as though he has grown spiritually because of this experience. He says he can feel all the prayer for him (thank you, friends!!!), and wants us to keep praying for the guys he's been able to share his faith with.
Praise the Lord for his faithfulness!!

Good morning and thank you for our Eric update. What a blessing to read about the upside to the future of our country. The downside makes the news, but kids like Eric just go about doing what's right and good in their lives.
Go Eric Go. God bless and keep you. JL

Can you give me a hint about your last few
keystrokes before crashing the machine? Please.
I didn't realize that you were an Iowan.
Next time we're in Belmond, let's meet at the Cattlemen's
for some down home eating (and drinking.)

Thanks for honoring one of my favorite FReeper friends today!
Lodwick is one the most charming caring and funny freepers here. Whenever I see FRed the Cat I always think "Oh good, loddy's here"!
Here's you some Ol Possum.

Wow! I did not know that George was a freeper - but I'm not shocked. Good to see and hear you here George, don't be a stranger!
Thank you Aquamarine - I'm quickly running out of different ways to say it. ;-)

Help...this is gorgeous and want to share it. I was able to "copy" and "paste" onto an Email but can't seem to view it if I send the image to MY PICTURES or to a Word document...any suggestions! I produced a 30x20 board with the "Pledge" on it but I like your small one framed with the flag, eagle and Statue of Liberty...breathtaking.

Welcome Tatie,
Good to see another new freeper here.
I believe that whatever we post graphically
has to reside somewhere on the internet and not
on our own machine.
Someone smart will help you, whenever they find
your post. (It took me forever to do what little
I can do - so hang in there with it.) JL
