A teenage girl was gang-raped in central Pakistan last month as "punishment" meted out by a tribal jury for her brother's alleged affair with a woman of a higher tribe, police said.
A Panchayat, or tribal jury, ordered four men, including one of the jurists, to rape the 18-year-old girl on June 22 in the village of Meerwala.
Meerwala lies 610 kilometres south-west of the capital Islamabad.
District police chief Malik Saeed Awan said authorities were informed of the publicly-ordered gang-rape several days after the incident.
He said four men took turns to sexually assault the girl inside a room. She was then ordered to return home naked before 1,000 onlookers.
The rape was to avenge the "insult" caused to a family of the Mastoi tribe by the girl's brother's alleged "illicit affair" with a woman of a higher social standing.
The girl and her brother were from the lower Gujjar tribe.
The Panchayat had threatened that all women in the accused's family would be raped unless the 18-year-old submitted herself to the public gang rape.
Awan said police were taking action against members of the Panchayat.
Lawyers visiting the tribal area on Sunday urged the authorities to prosecute the rapists and the jury.

Pathetic. I won't ask you for a cite since that is impossible. As bad it was, there were literally dozens of blacks lynched in the 20th century (and more than a few whites). But to claim 'wholesale lynchings' is laughable.

This is the third "simple question" in this vein you have asked me in this thread. And each time, I have answered that rape, murder, or any other crime against the person is not acceptable in any form, by anyone, to anyone. Please learn how to read before you try to post on FR again.
I know several. I didn't know Hindus were in the equation here, but yes, I know several of them. Of all the muslims that I have met, there is one that I know that would more than likely take a strong stance against these atocities..
I know of one Pakistani who is definitely of higher learning and conviction than these barbarian fools who raped this girl for fun.
I know of MANY Indians (presumably Hindu) who abhor this type of "justice"..

That's a parlor game for a science-fiction convention, not FR. While I can honestly say that I would never have owned slaves nor stood by while anyone was being raped, I cannot answer for a hypothetical question such as yours with the precision you apparently require. None of my family ever owned slaves; one was a Texas Ranger who was shot 4 times in the line of duty stopping various criminals from doing whatever it is they were doing.

Why are you attacking all the adherents of a particular religion for the actions of a few? That sort of thinking is not only racist and repugnant, it leads to wonderful events such as Kristallnacht and the subjugation of half the civilized world by jack-booted morons.
I'm still waiting for anyone to post an excerpt from any part of the Koran that expressly counsels that rape is an acceptable punishment. And, when someone does, I've got quite a few snippets from the good ol' Holy Bible that would seem to condone a number of, ahem, "unusual" human activities (incest, murder of a child, murder of family members, bestiality, et al). Tick tock.
It's estimated that around 40000 died due to the Spanish Inquisition during its run. In the first five years around 25000. The Inquistition was began by Ferdinand and Isabella without Papal authority. Papal authority was extracted by way of force by Ferdinand and Isabella. Scholars also guess that around 5000 of the victims were in fact political enemies of the crown. Like all government programs it took several hundred years to wind it's course. Of course there were other inquisitions. Some of them rather bloody in southern France, but nowhere near the scale of the Spanish Inquisition. The inquisition that Gallileo was caught up in was pretty tame. Now the liberals and commie apologists always bring up the inquisitions in order to defend Stalin or to bash Catholics and Christians in general. Torquemanda was a school boy compared with uncle Joe. I'm not an apologist, nor a Catholic but reality and perspective are important. It is interesting that the most vile and feared Christian is one of these protestant Fundamentalists. What I'd really like to know is why the fear? Is there a history to support it? :-)
And the politcal and economic realities surrounding the crusades are far more relevant, historically interesting and enlightening than the religious aspects. But I digress.. :-)
