MIAMI, July 1 (Reuters) - Police arrested two commercial airline pilots on Monday at Miami International Airport, and a local television station said the pair had shown up drunk in the cockpit.
Television station WSVN said the America West pilots were preparing to take off on a flight to Phoenix, Arizona, when police took them off the plane. Tests showed they were legally drunk, the station said.
Miami-Dade County Police could not immediately confirm the details but said they had arrested the two pilots at the airport. An America West spokeswoman at the company's headquarters, in Phoenix, was not immediately available for comment.

The only time I ever seriously feared for my life on an airliner was when an America West pilot nearly scraped a wing on the ground landing in Las Vegas. Never flew that airline again.

Sounds like a cross wind landing. That is one of the times that pilots earn their salary. No fun for passengers or crew but it looks worse than it is.

I can visualize the scene: "Ha ha ha - that's a good one, Bill. I've got one for you - what do a woman and (hic!) an airliner have in common?"

I work in Phoenix and deal with these idiots everyday. Dumb pilots and the ugliest stewardesses.

America Worst Airlines? Shoot, if I worked for them, I'd be drunk, too.
Kinda like being te daughter of Billy Jeff and Hellary!

I guarantee this won't get half the press that the "Bush Girls Caught Drinking Beer" (imagine that!) did.

I was on the way to Comdex and the plane was packed with jaded frequent flyers. Everybody near a window gasped when we came down on one wheel and (nearly) a wingtip. These are people who fly every week or two and routinely sleep through lightningstorms and hairy turbulence. The pilot stayed in the cockpit until everyone was off.

About a year ago, the FAA almost shut them down because of maintenance problems.
