Law-enforcement authorities said they believe radical Muslims are seeking to create a patchwork of "hide-outs" in rural southern Virginia for would-be terrorists and other extremists.

I don't think rural Virginia is probably the best place to "hide-out." It is rather populated, and I don't think these folks would blend in very well. But then I really am not familiar with rural Virginia. Perhaps it might surprise me.

Western Virginia (not West Virginia) is very rural and mountainous. It's a good place to get lost. Except for the DC Metro area, Richmond, Roanoke and Tidewater, Virginia is very rural. Please don't let Northern VA establish your opinion of The Old Dominion.

It is pretty rural although it is not too far from Lynchburg (where Liberty University is located) and is ironically just South of Patrick Henry's home named Red Hill. I can't imagine they would feel too welcome in that area.

Hmmmm? I remember a recent story about a large fenced-in compound in Virginia. Does anybody remember that?? Maybe you could find something by searching for Virginia.

These folk would not blend it very well. I keep reading about these terrorists living right in my home state, apparently we are one of their main bases of operation in the US, however, I have yet to run into one of these creeps.

I am. Unless rural Virginia has changed a lot, the locals will be watching these potential terrorists closely. If there is anything they can do, they will try. Not too sure what they legally can do, though.

There are a lot of "Muslim" converts in VA. Mostly young black guys who joined the "brotherhood" while in prison. There's a whole "drug dealer/convict/NWA" sub culture down there, as there is in the cities all over the US. What's strange about VA is that the problem is spread throughout the WHOLE state. Wish Ollie North had won the election...VA might not have slid so far downhill.

The article says these are Americans who converted to Islam. I would guess they're mostly Black Muslims who converted in prison

As long as they don't dress Muslim, they would probably blend in with the rest of the Black population of Virginia

In the area around Meherrin, these people stand out from the black Virginians like a sore thumb. People in Charlotte and Prince Edward counties are almost all rural Christians, white and black. Muslims don't blend in at all, and this bunch relies on having a large, secluded tract of private land for protection rather than blending into a community anyway.

Political correctness, a lack of interest by a left-wing governor, inept undereducated, understaffed local law enforcement, State Police (they have a quota in Virginia) who just ride the interstates making money off speed traps, an FBI/INS that is totally incompetent and local Boards of Supervisors who can probably be easily bought ( I'm sure the Muslims have assurances already) by Muslim money make "hiding" in the "open" in Virginia an absolute piece of cake and puts them on all kinds of Interstste/International travel routes within several hours of major targets and metropolitan cells....blend this with their owning motels all over the major arteries and you can see how these terrorists can move people , singly or in groups , from one place to another without raising red flags from the public ( who is ignored by the inept Richmond Virginia FBI anyway) and will always have an excuse when they are encountered...we're just doing a peaceful spiritual Muslim thing.... We are screwed unless someone with some sense, savvy and desire to win this war takes charge !!! How many billions for the seven or eight color warning code that you can't identify to this day , but a major university that raises a billion $$$$ a year does not , in Virginia, have the $200 to screen off the street level air intake for major buildings . Phony, money maws and the Muslims know it!

I know it very well and your impression is correct...lotta good folks with hunting rifles and a hankerin' fer Skoal/Copenhagen, and they've been waving them American flags since way before 9/11!! If I was a terrorist looking to blend in somewhere near DeeCee, I'd check out the Soicalist State of Maryland.

Didn't you know? The radical Islamists believe that if they die in a Jihad aganst the infidels, they will go to paradise, where they'll be pleasured and serviced by 70 enthusiastic Virginians. The place must have quite a reputation in those circles....
